Story
Young Marcy, born October 2023 is a Mexican mix with some Australian cattle dog x lab (her sibling was DNA tested and basically had just about every breed you could list out). Marcy is playful and energetic and would like a home with a yard and a family who enjoys getting out to adventure – walking and swimming are things she enjoys. We think Marcy is part of a litter that was dumped near the sanctuary and taken in briefly by a neighbouring farm. When the farmer got up in the morning several of the dogs had already wandered off, including Marcy – her 4 siblings taken into the SPCA PV. A month or so later, she turned up crying at the sanctuary, having found them again. And she’s now safe in the sanctuary. Marcy is playful and friendly – she likes people and other dogs. She did spend some time in a foster home until there was room for her, so has some basic commands and house trained. Marcy has been tested with cats – she was curious and a bit confused, and eventually thought perhaps they might want to play. Marcy is excited around toys and bones and will sometimes growl so other dogs don’t take them away from her. She could really use the attention that a real home would afford her. Marcy is spayed, healthy and vaccinated. She has siblings living in Vancouver, Bellingham and Vancouver island and all are thriving. Flight availability to Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Seattle and Vancouver island (with less frequency), will resume in fall and she’d love to have a foster or forever home to give her this wonderful chance. Story
Bodie is a spirited and exuberant dog, always eager to play and explore. His enthusiasm is contagious, he approaches each day with a wagging tail and some barking. However, his strong personality means that he can be a bit dog reactive, making him a better fit for experienced dog owners who understand the needs of a Border Collie and can provide him with the proper training and socialization. As Bodie is a Border Collie, he is naturally incredibly agile and athletic. He loves to run, jump, catch frisbees and engage in any other activity that challenges his mind and body. He is a very quick learner, and he thrives on mental stimulation. He will need to be kept busy with puzzle toys and interactive games to keep him happy. While Bodie’s energy and intelligence make him a wonderful companion, his dog reactivity may be challenging. He is not suitable for households with children or with inexperienced dog owners who would struggle to manage his strong-willed nature. He will need to be the only pet in the household as he displays resource guarding towards other dogs. With the right guidance and consistent training, Bodie can learn to navigate his surroundings with more confidence. Bodie's vibrant spirit and zest for life remind those around him to embrace every moment with enthusiasm! With the right owner who can provide structure and love, Bodie has the potential to be an incredible companion. He is more than ready to leave shelter life behind and wants to embark on some new adventures! Please be aware that Bodie is available only to a breed knowledgeable and experienced home, or for a herding specific rescue to pull him from the shelter. Story
** Currently fostered in Houston Texas, but available for adoption out of state via rescue transportation, included in adoption fee. Offer Zoom call to virtually meet prior to adoption. Meet Barkley! This sweet baby wandered up on someone's property. He was wearing a harness on that had the brand name boots and barkley, so that's where the finder got his name. Barkley was chipped, but unfortunately it was not registered. It shows that he was adopted in January2023, and that he is estimated about 5 years of age. He currently weighs around 55 lbs and we believe him to be a border collie/cattle dog mix. He has energy and he loves to run and play, but can be a couch potato too. His favorite thing in the world is to play fetch with a ball! Barkley likes other dogs if they are female, but has not been a fan of males. We believe it's from a lack of social time with other dogs because he doesn't come off as just an aggressive pup, he just seems like he was kept in a yard and ignored a lot of the time prior to rescue and may not be familiar with most dogs. Barkley clearly knows his basic commands, such as sit, kennel, shake and settle. He is highly toy and food motivated and responds wonderfully to focused training. With continued training, we could even see him being an agility pup! Barkley is crate trained, housebroken and does well on leash. He is fully vetted, meaning he us neutered, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped and on monthly preventions for flea, tick and heartworm.
