Story
Donations Needed for heartworm treatment - this very skinny, sweet cocker boy can hopefully start his heartworm treatment real soon, after he gains some weight. He is high heartworm positive. It will probably take three treatments with rest and recovery time and then we will re-test. Please help us with his care by donating to Cabarrus Animal Hospital at (704) 786-6102. Just tell the staff that you would like to make a donation to Charlotte Cocker Rescue, the Donna Carpenter account or you can send a check to CCR, P.O. Box 1050, Kannapolis, NC 28081. PayPal too. Meet Henry, a very neglected, scared, skinny 4-year-old Cocker boy. He is a sweet boy who craves attention and love. He has always lived outside and was never given any love or attention by the owners. He is high heartworm positive because he was never on any kind of prevention. The staff at this particular NC shelter were tipped of last October to investigate this as a cruelty case. The owners were cautioned to get this dog groomed as he was very overgrown, skinny and pitiful looking from neglect. The shelter folks went out to this home again to do a check on him. They found him badly matted with ears adhered to his head. After questioning them again about neglect of care, the owner agreed to surrender him over to the shelter. He had to be sedated to be groomed and he also got neutered. The shelter asked for rescue help due to high heartworm positive. They transported to us, and he will be taken care of properly. This boy is so nice, easy going and calm. He is very loving and craves attention. He will need to go through heartworm treatment and then he will have a dental. He seems to prefer woman over men. He will be here in rescue for several months. He will not be up for adoption until all of his vetting needs are taken care of and he is a healthy boy. Please donate to help with his care as shown above. Any amount is greatly appreciated and thank you for your kindness to help this boy on his way to a better life.

Story
Adoption Pending: Foster Mom and Dad will be adopting this sweet girl after all vetting needs are done. Meet Blondie soon to be called Callie. She is a 5- to 7-year-old reddish buff Cocker Girl. She came from a NC Shelter. They said she was running around as a stray and covered in fleas. She was given multiple baths, and they found that she had whipworms. They guessed her to be 4 to 5 years old, but our vet said that she is older as indicated above. This Cocker girl is very sweet, rides well in a car and walks pretty well on a leash. We learned from our vet that she came in with ear infections, needs to be spayed, have a dental and treatment for whipworms. She was pretty good on the table but didn't like the staff messing with her ears or looking at her teeth. Testing was done showing a grade 3 heart murmur and severely anemic. This diagnosis sometimes indicates that she had heartworms at one point even though she is now testing as heartworm negative. She was on a liquid iron supplement for the anemia issue and the meds helped her. She will be spayed and have a dental early September. She was groomed and is in a foster home in Statesville. No young kids, teen and older okay. Foster will be adopting her after all vetting is done. Her adoption fee is $400.

No Phone Calls. If you are interested in adopting this Cocker Spaniel boy, please fill out an application by going to charlottecockerrescue.org to download and save our application. Email your filled out application back to us to be approved. We will review it and return calls. Meet Haggard, a 2-year-old black n white parti Cocker Boy. He came to us from a hoarding cruelty case in TN with 8 dogs when the shelter asked for our help. No other information was available. Two of our volunteers did transport and brought him to CCR. He is heartworm negative and no tick disease. He is a friendly guy, gaining weight and did okay at the vet. He is doing well with crate training. He has been groomed, will be neutered, have minor dental and is receiving treatment for his ears. At 2nd appointment, ears were better but needed a 2nd treatment. A patient owner will need to work with him on house training and how to behave properly on a leash. He barks at other dogs when taken for a walk, so no pet stores. We feel that he will do best as your only dog, no small kids and no history with cats. A fenced yard is a must. He does somewhat okay with dogs his size but not with big dogs. This boy has had little to no love or attention. He can only handle both for a few minutes and then he is done. He is a sweet dog and has a few issues. If you can work with him to overcome the things that need tweaking, he can learn to be a wonderful house companion. Please give him this 2nd chance to know the real meaning of love, kindness and proper care. All vetting needs will be completed before adoption. Adoption fee $500

Story
Available in two weeks as long as recovery goes well after cherry eye repair surgery that has just been done. He is now on recovery time. If you are interested in adopting this sweet Cocker Spaniel boy, please fill out an application by going to charlottecockerrescue.org to download and save our application. Email your filled out application back to us to be approved. We will review it and return calls. All vet care must be completed. Meet Buddy, a 1 year and 3-month-old neutered Cocker Spaniel boy. He was turned into a NC shelter with the owners saying he had started nibbling at their feet, and they didn't want their grandchildren to get hurt. They had him in their home for two months after getting him from someone else. This sweet boy needs an adult only home. No kids or grandkids due to his unstable past. He has been in 4 different homes. When our volunteer picked him up, she quickly learned that he is a sweet, sweet guy, tough on a leash and a very sad Cocker boy. When he meets or sees other dogs, he barks at them. At rescue vet appointment, we were told he has a mild heart murmur that may be parasite related plus yeasty ears. Both of these issues are being treated. He also has bilateral cherry eyes. HW & fecal status is negative. Surgery repair for his cherry eye issues was scheduled and has been done. He is on recovery time. All vet care will be addressed before he can be adopted out. He was dirty with several mats and has been groomed. A new owner will need a lot of patience. A fenced yard is a must. He will need to trust you to make progress as he acts like he doesn't know kindness, love, attention or how to handle noises and being around other dogs. It is possible that his sadness is from being left alone too much, mistreated or simply never receiving much attention. He might be okay with a calm, easy going dog social pal who can be his mentor or best as your only dog. With a patient owner, we feel that he can blossom and thrive. Someone who can offer him stability, kindness, love and attention but at a slow pace, so he doesn't get too overwhelmed. An owner who won't give up on him is a must. He deserves to know the real meaning of kindness and being loved as a companion in your home. His adoption fee will be $500.
