Story
Ritz is a 12-year-old, 23.6-pound Chihuahua mix with a soft coat and a heart that is somehow even softer. Since coming into our care, Ritz has already had quite the glow-up: he’s had a full veterinary workup, recent bloodwork, a dental with a few extractions, and surgery to repair a cherry eye. He’s also working on shedding a few extra pounds (and is already down a couple!), and feeling better every day. He does have a grade 2/6 heart murmur, but currently requires no medication.Despite everything he’s been through, Ritz is pure gentleness. He is not a barker—in fact, he’s as quiet as a little mouse. He shows his happiness in the sweetest ways: soft, careful kisses and a constantly wagging tail that says everything his voice doesn’t need to. He enjoys the simple joys in life, especially chasing a ball and proudly bringing it back, which is absolutely adorable coming from such a distinguished little gentleman.Ritz is still learning that the couch is allowed territory in his foster home, but he’s getting more confident each day. For now, he’s happiest curled up on a cozy dog bed or resting in his crate. He is fully house and crate trained, sleeps peacefully through the night, and is rarely crated thanks to his foster family working from home.He gets along wonderfully with other dogs—big, small, male, or female—and takes social cues well. Because of his age and gentle nature, he would do best in a home with older, respectful children. A home with a yard would be ideal, as he enjoys spending time outside just taking in the world. He would also love a family where someone is home often—whether working remotely, retired, or able to bring him along for the day. While he is crate trained, he should not spend long hours confined.Ritz truly is a charming, one-of-a-kind little gentleman. He shouldn’t have ended up in a shelter, but now that he’s found his way into our care, we are determined to find him the safe, loving forever home he so deeply deserves. He has a way of quietly taking your breath away the moment you meet him.Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
