Story
Hello! My name is Lyra!I`m a cute little chihuahua with an endearing personality. I`ve spent most of my life living with my one human and would love a home that is similar - few people and where at least one of whom will let me curl up on their lap all day long! I have lived with a dog before but didn`t love it. I didn`t like sharing my human or my things. I really would be happiest with just me and my person. I also don`t love when strangers try to approach me and my human when I`m on their lap. What I do love is snuggling up with my person and getting lots of love and pets!MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: No, I would do best in an adult-only home given I get scared and might nip when children move or make noises unexpectedly.OTHER DOGS: I would prefer to be the only dog. I don’t like sharing my things, including my human’s lap, with other dogs.CATS: I’ve never lived with a cat, but it would have to be a cat who doesn’t like to sit on my human’s lap since that might cause problems.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: I would do best with someone who has previous dog experience.FENCED-IN YARD: Not necessarily.HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: None where barking may be a problem, since I may bark when hearing noises or meeting new people.SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: I am used to having my human with me most of the day but I suppose I could be ok alone.SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…ACTIVITY LEVEL: Low-medium.HOUSE-TRAINED: I sometimes have accidents in the house but will go outside and will sometimes use pee pads.If you think I could be a good match for your home, click the “Adopt Me” button to apply!

Story
Penny was guesstimated to be 7 yrs old and weighs 11 lbs while at the dog shelter. However, based on her youthful looks, her level of energy, her clear sparkling black eyes and pearly white teeth, we estimate her to be somewhat younger, more around 5 years of age. Penny was confiscated by authorities from a hoarding situation along with other dogs, where the neglected dogs were confined to a basement. She is so cute and elegant with her square compact body shape and her long muscular legs that give her great mobility. Penny’s blond coat has the added benefit of being low shedding. She has stunningly big, bright and shiny dark eyes that are amplified by her surrounding light cream coloured mask. Penny is such a pretty girl!” She had a dental cleaning done and her “pearlies” are super white (minus a couple of missing lower front teeth). She is a healthy little dog, who loves food and is very alert: she always keeps a watchful eye on her caregiver’s every move. Her favourite occupation is to watch her foster mom pottering around the kitchen, patiently sitting close by on the floor hoping to get a treat or keeping watch while laying in her kitchen day bed. She loves to chew on raw hide bones and entertains herself gnawing on them for long periods of time. Every now and then, she comes to her foster mom for a quick petting and gives her kisses to thank her for the attention she just received, then, she happily returns, tail wagging to her bed, to keep watching the love of her life. Penny does not give her heart to everybody, she is exclusive and keeps all of her love for her caregiver. She is extremely affectionate, devoted and trusting towards her # 1 human: turns over for belly rubs, lets her handle and touch any body parts including her paws, ears, mouth. She does not display any aggression towards other humans, she simply ignores them unless they offer her a treat! She likes to sit on her foster mom’s lap for a short while or near her on the sofa. She is smart, inquisitive, curious and interested in everything her favourite person does, which makes her a great, very present companion. She is a bit wary of men but forgets her fear when they offer a treat! She is extremely food motivated. While she is shy when first meeting strangers and will ignore them, she quickly warms up for a moment with a treat, especially if there is another friendly dog around to lead the way. She likes other dogs, even large size dogs do not scare her and is definitely more confident in other canines presence. She is a follower, not a leader. She patiently waits for her turn to get a treat but she will not happily share her food bowl or chewing bone with other dogs and will silently curl her upper lip to let it known. She is also fine with cats as she was exposed to them while residing at her US shelter and allowed in the office where long term cat residents roamed freely. Penny is working on her leash walking skills and doing well. She has the cutest, funny antics, such as her twirling on herself welcoming dance when foster mom returns home or prepares her food bowl annd her sudden outbursts of passionate kissing when she gets up in the morning! Penny is pee pad trained and well housebroken. She can also be given the run of the house as she is not destructive at all and is well housebroken. She knows to relieve herself on pee pad or outdoors. Penny will alert and bark when someone is at the door. When she first arrived in our foster care, any noise would often triggered a bark, but she pretty much has this under control by now. This little gal is a true gem, such a pleasure to have around because she provides steady, real ever present company to her caregiver without being overly demanding of attention. Ideal adoptive candidate (s) for this little waggy tail cutie: female single or female couple, or both gender couple with a male partner who does not mind being second fiddle ;-) Are you this special person Penny has been long waiting for?

Story
This is a courtesy posting on behalf of SOS dog rescue. Coco is 3.5 yrs old and weighs approximately 7 lbs. Coco came from a hoarding situation so she is a very social little gal with other dogs and she learned out of necessity not to be a push over and let other dogs boss her around. She has been exposed to cats and can be trusted to co-live with a dog savvy cat. She is friendly, very affectionate and loving towards humans. She is a total lap dog. She has a sweet and gentle temperament that makes her suitable to be around dog savvy children 10 yrs and older. Coco is peepad trained and also knows to relieve herself outdoors. Coco is a typical chihuahua so she can be vocal when the doorbell rings and when she sees a dog in the neighbour's yard. She quiets down quickly as soon as visitors give her some attention. Coco is a very sweet and gentle, affectionate family dog.

Story
Age is estimated to be 4 years. Weight is 8 pounds. Breed: chihuahua mix. Commands: Kyle knows his name and will come when called. We are working on "stay" and "off". Food: kibble, which he enjoys. He self-regulates so his food is put down and he eats when he chooses. He gets 1/4 cup three times each day. Not food-driven but he gets treats as rewards. Is not destructive. Little interest in toys. Squeaky toys scare him. Low energy. No interest in being outside although this may change after winter. Housetrained but we stick to a routine and take him out about every four hours. He's eager to do what is necessary and quickly goes inside. No interest in meeting new people. He keeps his distance from visitors but allows slow approach  and gentle petting. Hasn't met other dogs or cats. Came in with several other dogs and was good with them Walks reasonably well on leash. Crated overnight and when alone during the day to increase his sense of security. Fosters are home most of the time. Rarely barks. Kyle is adorable and really wants to cuddle with his special person, nothing more. His ideal home would be spending quiet time with a female who can give him time to warm to her and feel safe. He's a wonderful little chap. He is still quite fearful of men    .    January 6, 2026, 2:20 pm

Story
CHARITY is currently being fostered in TEXAS. Meet Charity, apx 2 years young and 8 pounds. She is such a scared and nervous girl. Good with other dogs and cats. She bonds quickly with other dogs her size and has been around dogs from 5-25 pounds of all ages. She is nervous around large hyper dogs. We have never heard her bark and she has been here a month. She will not just come to you, but you can baby talk her. Once she is cornered or in her safe space or her favorite bed she will reluctantly allow pets and allow you to pick her up. She does not bite us, but I would not 110% say she would never bite, because she is so fearful I do think if she was cornered, especially by someone very intimidating or small young children that try to grab her very quickly, I can see her nipping possibly. That being said we have had her at the vet, we have done baths, vaccines, ears, nails, give her kisses, hold her, sing her songs, force our love upon her whether she appreciates it or not 🙂 and she has never tried to bite us. She is just scared, freezes and has eyes as big as saucers . She always tries to find a place to hide if she is uncomfortable. She has a sweet nature and soul, we can tell she will be a timid but loving companion with some time and trust. We really think in a home environment she will grow and blossom into a loving furbaby that sits on the couch with her humans and cuddles up in bed. It’s just going to take some time, love and patience. Charity may hold a lot of baggage from her past. She was found pregnant and gave birth at her finders home and all 5 babies died within 24 hours. Then she came to us. We are trying so hard to heal her broken heart and she has come a long way but she really needs a home and a family to reach her true potential and to really feel safe and like part of a family. No young children please and a fenced yard would be ideal. She is not ready to walk on leash and harness but I know one day she will try and probably follow her mama everywhere . Please give her a chance. ❤️ Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given.
