Story
Meet Jiminy! He may be small in stature, but this little warrior has been through hell, surviving life in a backyard breeding operation, where he suffered a badly broken jaw and received zero veterinary care until we took him in.Jiminy must have suffered terribly, as he was barely able to eat, and shied away from human touch for so long, likely due to the unimaginable pain he was experiencing. As a result, he was smaller than his sibling Ricky who we rescued at the same time, Since having his jaw wired back together, his healing journey has begun - both physically and emotionally. First, he began to show a real interest in food. With pain well managed, he started to eat and put on weight at last. It took a little bit longer for him to trust humans, but he is slowly starting to put his uncertainty behind him and seek out affection and touch.Jiminy is now well on his way to bright and happy future ahead...all he needs is a forever family who will love him unconditionally as he learns to leave his difficult beginning behind him. He is dog friendly, and well-mannered in the home. He is just now learning how to "play" and show an interest in toys. Housetraining remains a work in progress. He will use pee pads and also goes outside, but still has the occasional accident. Leash skills are difficult to gauge at this time due to his uncertainty with the big scary world outside, but given his young age, it is likely something that will improve with time and patience. He tolerates kitchen sink bubble baths, and has yet to accept treats. He does have a sensitive tummy so i is best he stick to his current diet as he transitions from foster to forever home.Due to his very small size, a home without very children (10+ only who with small dog experience). We are looking for a forever family with a small to medium sized well-balanced canine who can help Jiminy build confidence with behavioural cues.Jiminy also has a hard time with stairs yet, so ideally a home without a lot of steps would be best for him. Jiminy also struggles with stairs so a home without a lot of steps would best suit his needs. Please note: only applications received through our web page at www.K9C.ca can be processed. Successful applicants are chosen by best fit, not first come first served.Due to the high volume of applications we receive, only those we feel would be a potential match are contacted.

Story
KAELIE / 1yr 2mths / Female / 26lbs / Mixed Breed / Originally from Tennessee / Fostered near Peterborough Good with dogs / Not tested with cats or kids / House and crate trained Hello world, meet Kaelie! This little beauty is a very sweet and special pup with an amazing super pup power who is ready to start her next chapter! She hopes that after a rocky start to life she can find the perfect forever family of her own! Kaelie was abandoned with her siblings in rural Tennessee and she’s still getting used to the big wide world! Although a wallflower once you earn her trust she is a loyal fun cuddly companion. Her shy demeanour and sensitive heart requires her to often need time to observe before engaging but then she is all in! And with her perfect perky ears and soulful eyes it’s hard not to fall for her at first sight! Now to her super pup power: While cautious around people, she lights up and is the life of the party with other dogs! Her engaging playfulness is infectious and she has the unique ability to get anyone to play. This lil social butterfly currently resides with little, handicapped and big dogs and is everyone’s go to for fun times! Her antics are sure to make you smile and warm your heart. After a good play session she is happy to curl up with her besties and her people! With other people, Kaelie will need your help to build up her confidence. The world is still such a scary place to this wee gal. Once she’s warmed up to you she’s oodles of fun and would love to show off her zoomies in a fully-fenced yard. Kaelie also needs a confident and playful resident dog - maybe your resident dog was once a shy pup too and can help show her the ropes! Kaelie thrives off routine, and would do best in a quieter, relaxed environment, in a home outside of any busy city areas. She loves to go on walkies, especially on nature trails, and can be left at home alone happily in her crate when you need to go to work. If she has kid siblings, she’d prefer them to be a little older and know how to respect her space. Working with a trainer would also help Kaelie progress - she is very smart and with the right guidance picks things up quickly and is proud to show off new skills! Kaelie is an amazing little dog with a ton of potential. With patience and time you will build a bond like no other and she will show you how a true diamond in the rough can shine! https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/  Spayed / Microchipped / Up to date on vaccinations **PLEASE FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED -https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/* For inquiries please do not use Adoptapet/Petfinder inquiry button - send an email directly to hello@caninehaven.org

Story
Hi, I'm Sheldon. I came to the York centre as a transferred stray so not much is known about my past. I am estimated to be approximately 1 year old. I do have some home requirements that need to be met to ensure success for my future furr-ever home and myself. I am not house trained yet, but am working on it. I require a quiet home environment. My home must not have any children and my people will need to be very patient with me - I am very shy and nervous around all new people and need proper time to decompress and feel more comfortable. I am also considered a flight risk if I get scared. It will take me a while to truly relax, I am a bit of a diamond in the ruff at the moment, but with patience and compassion in a home that understands and is able to meet my needs I will blossom. If you think that you meet my furr-ever home needs please contact the centre and we can have a meet and greet. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 3.9 Age: 1yrs 1mths 0wks

Story
Introducing the darling Jennifer, a petite 2-year-old Chihuahua-Jindo mix weighing in at a delightful 10 kilograms. This precious pup has quite the story to tell, having been rescued from a kill shelter alongside her precious puppies. Jennifer is what you might call a “people person” in the canine world. She adores meeting new friends and welcomes them with open paws, allowing even strangers to lavish her with pets and cuddles. In fact, she’s quite the social butterfly and doesn’t mind being carried around like the little queen she is. And oh, don’t even get her started on belly rubs – she’s practically an expert at melting hearts with her irresistible display of a soft, fluffy belly begging for attention. Having been a devoted mom to her puppies, Jennifer has learned the art of sharing and getting along swimmingly with dogs of all shapes and sizes. She’s a true peacemaker, always opting for a calm and collected approach when there’s a sniff of conflict in the air. Whether it’s a boisterous playmate or a gentle giant, Jennifer is all about spreading harmony and love in the doggy world. When it comes to cats, Jennifer’s curiosity might pique when she spots a stray feline on her walks. But fear not – her focus remains firmly on her trusted handler, ensuring that she stays on track and doesn’t get too distracted by those mysterious creatures with whiskers. Now, Jennifer may tend to pull a bit on the leash when she’s overcome with excitement on her adventures. But fear not, for she quickly settles down once she’s had a chance to take in the sights and sounds of her surroundings. And as for those tear stains? Well, it seems that chicken might be the culprit, but a little TLC and a carefully tailored diet will have her sparkling like the gem she truly is. This charming canine companion is seeking a forever family who can shower her with plenty of love and affection, along with a dose of tranquillity to match her serene disposition. If you believe Jennifer is “the one” for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to her devoted team. She’s ready to sprinkle your life with endless joy and puppy kisses! 🐾
