For Adoption: Frederick! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. Tino is a 1.5-year-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix with a sleek black-and-brown coat and a big personality packed into a small body. His name was inspired by a famous soccer player, perfect for a little guy who loves to run, play, and win hearts wherever he goes. Tino came to the rescue after spending time in a puppy mill. While we do not know exactly what he experienced, it is clear he did not have the easiest start. Because of this he can be a little nervous around sudden movements or stern voices. With patience, kindness, and consistency, Tino continues to grow more confident and shows his sweet and loving personality more every day. Tino would do well in almost any home setting, whether it is an apartment, townhouse, or detached home. He is a happy and affectionate dog who enjoys playing and chasing his people but he is just as content curling up for a nap… preferably right beside you or on you. Tino is a true cuddle bug and is happiest when he is close to his humans. He will greet you with a wagging tail, a wiggly body, and by climbing into your lap for snuggles and kisses. You can expect him to follow you from room to room, waiting outside the bathroom or watching you relax. He may whine briefly when he cannot see you, but he settles quickly and is not a major bother. Tino is also very quiet and rarely ever barks. One of our favourite things about Tino is his ability to fall asleep in any position, whether that is half on your lap and half on the floor, in an awkward or uncomfortable position, or in tight spaces, and still have the best sleep of his life. Tino enjoys his daily walks, usually between one hour and an hour and a half. He loves to sniff, explore, and meet new people. He walks well on a leash overall, though he may pull a bit when he has extra energy, especially after being in his crate. He is still learning to calmly pass other dogs. He does not bark at them but may stare or pull with curiosity. Tino offers a great balance of being playful and calm. He enjoys playtime but he is very relaxed when it is time to wind down. Bath time is not his favourite, especially with running water or hoses, which can make him nervous. He does best with gentle, poured, and lukewarm water in a calm environment. He is house-trained and understands to go outside, though he may occasionally have small accidents if he is very excited or needs to go urgently. Tino can be sensitive to stern voices, especially from men, and may have a submissive urination response when scared. You may notice him trying to make himself small or tucking his tail. With patience and reassurance, this continues to improve as he feels safer and more comfortable. Any men in his home will need to be patient, calm and quieter with him and let him build trust with them,. Tino is very cooperative when being cleaned after walks and does well with having his paws wiped. Tino does very well in his crate. He is able to stay in there for a few minutes to a several hours if needed. Tino also sleeps in his crate in a different room from his fosters at night with no problems. He is easily guided into the crate with treats and does best when the crate is covered. Sometimes there is whining, but he settles very quickly. Tino also enjoys car rides and is happy to relax in the back seat or sit beside you. Tino does well with other dogs when introduced properly, though his reaction to cats is unknown. He would do best in a home with older, respectful children, over the age of 10yrs, who understand how to interact gently with animals. He already knows some basic commands such as sit and wait. He is highly motivated by his favourite beef liver treats and learns quickly. Tino does well at the vet, though he appreciates gentle handling during exams and shots. He has recently been neutered, is up to date on vaccinations, and is otherwise medically up to date. He is currently experiencing some hair loss along the outer edges of his ears, which the vet believes is ear margin dermatosis. This is being treated with an antibacterial and antifungal steroidal cream (Viaderm), along with omega-3 fatty acid supplementation in his food. This is an affliction that often affects Dachshunds. Tino is a quiet, affectionate, and playful companion, happiest when curled up beside his person or following them from room to room. After time in a puppy mill, he can be sensitive to sudden movements and stern voices, so he needs a patient, gentle home that will help him continue to build confidence and feel safe. He would thrive in a calm environment with consistent routines, ideally with older, respectful children or ideally and adult only home, and adopters who enjoy both long, good paced walks and lots of cuddle time. If you are looking for a loyal, loving shadow who will shower you with kisses and be your constant companion, Tino is your perfect match. Story
Currently fostered in Texas Bonnie is 7-8 years old and 8.2 pounds Bonnie is such a sweet and gentle girl, a bit of a nervous nellie at first but bonds quickly with her people. Is good with other dogs , cats and well mannered calm children , preferably middle school age and up. She is good at doing potty on the wee pads if she is not able to go outside. She walks on leash and harness but may be nervous at first with new people, places and maybe keeping her indoors the first few days to decompress is best. She is a doll, a 110% lap baby. A bit if a picky eater. Loves cheese, hot dogs and chicken but dog food is a hit and miss. Her human mama passed away and she came to the rescue. She has lived a quiet gentle life thus far. Bonnie is her original name, we also call her bon bon . It would be nice if she could keep it. She is a gentle soul and we are looking for another gentle gentle soul to be her pawrent Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given. Story
Currently fostered in Texas. Pauly is approximately 2 to 3 years old and 8.7 pounds. He is timid when meeting new people for a short period and acts a little shy but very quickly warms up and acts like such a sweet baby boy. He is great with all other animals, due to his shy nature and instinct to run when he feels threatened, we ask no small young children under 8 years old. He will not bite a child he just would probably be very timid with a young hyper child. Once he comes out of his shell, though he is very funny and extremely playful. He plays a lot with the other dogs and loves toys. He is a gentle soul. He will walk on leash and harness wearily and nervously once he gets to know you but this has to be done with extreme caution as he is a nervous nelly in new situations. A fenced yard or fenced area to potty the first couple days to a week would be ideal however if that is not possible and he needs to be on a leash and harness we suggest using a leash and well fitted harness along side leash and collar so he is double protected if he tries to run. I promise he does warm up very quickly and becomes SUCH a mamas boy within a few days. He will need a belly band in the home until he is fully potty trained , however he never makes a mess in his kennel at night so I think potty training will be an easy task with love, kindness and patience. He has been through quite a lot and needs stability and love . I adore this kid and love his little stocky build 💕 Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given. Story
Approximately 6 years old and 12 pounds, Cupcake came to the rescue as an owner surrender and is now looking for her forever home. She’s a sweet, affectionate little dog with a calm presence in the home. Cupcake enjoys curling up in your lap while you work or relax and loves attention, without being overly demanding. She’s generally quiet and not much of a barker. In her home environment, she’s comfortable meeting new people and has done well living with a larger, older dog. Cupcake has a playful side too — she loves her stuffed toys and will often greet you with one in her mouth, doing a little happy dance. She’s curious in a gentle way and has a bit of personality, especially when treats are involved. Outside the home, Cupcake can be a bit nervous. She’s cautious around new people and other dogs on walks, and may need a few days to adjust to a new routine. A quieter area with less traffic and fewer stressors would suit her best, as busy downtown environments aren’t her preference. She’s currently fostered in an apartment and could do well in a similar setting. Cupcake is crate trained for sleeping and when left alone, and she travels well in the car. She’s house-trained and has shown good potty habits. She hasn’t been tested with cats or children, but may be okay with respectful kids. Cupcake can be a bit particular with food and tends to graze throughout the day. She would do well in a home where she gets lots of love and companionship, whether as an only dog or with a calm companion. Medical notes: Cupcake may have a chicken allergy. She is missing a few teeth, and a dental exam has been recommended. Cupcake is a gentle, loving dog who will thrive in the right home with patience and understanding as she settles in.

Story
Ginger is apx 8-10 years young , 10 pounds, and does not act like a senior dog. She does love her cuddles, blankets and nap time, but she has a lot of life in her and is full of love and curiosity. She loves being outside and following the humans around while they do their daily chores. Great with all animals and people and well mannered gentle children. Ginger is a cutie pie. She is really well mannered and has a good demeanor. She acclimates quickly to a new routine and new people. Ginger is her original name . Her human papa passed away and Ginger came to us. She is looking for her new family that help her heal and return to a loving family home that adores her . She did have a dental and lost a few teeth but still has plenty of cleaned pearly whites and fresh breath now 🙂 She is still learning leash and harness walking and is a little nervous trying this. She appears to have good potty manners and goes outdoors or on a wee pad Apply www.texaschihuahua.org Please read our Q&A on our we site for basic adoption questions

Story
Currently fostered in Texas Mochi was originally Topaz at the ranch, she was rescued last year but had to be returned to the rescue. She knows the name Mochi now. She was returned because the adopter was having a hard time potty training her, even after hiring a dog trainer, so her future adopter or foster will need to work on that. At the rescue where she has a doggy door , there is no issue with her going potty inside and she also holds it all night and does not potty inside here at the ranch. Mochi apx 6 years young and 9.5 pounds. She is a very loving and affectionate dog. She loves people and children (her adopter had two children) . She is submissive with people and loves all the attention and lap time. She acclimates very quickly and bonds very quickly with humans. She is good with other dogs and cats, she has lots of fur friends and even sleeps with the other dogs at night, she is not aggressive, not food aggressive or anything BUT, she is a bit of a dominant bossy female. She plays with other dogs here and she loves to play and cuddle with them but she is the “mom” and a bit of the fun police at times, typical chiweenie behavior. She also rarely starts a tussle but if another dog growls or tries to be dominant over her, she will stand her ground which sometimes leads to a little girl fight. She walks on leash perfectly. All in all Mochi is a great girl , just a bit of a diva 🙂 and very much holds many traits more so of her dachshund mix . Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given.
