Story
*SPECIAL NEEDS - MENTALLY CHALLENGED- secure fenced yard - companion dog required* Meet Money Penny!   She's 8 yrs old, 14 lbs, Chihuahua Mix. Penny is a Special Needs Dog due to genetics. She was brought into rescue with 3 other dogs we believe were siblings.  She's fine physically . Her biggest issue is her fear, slow comprehension and super sensitive t o noises and she'll run to safe zone.   She eats well, and she will take food & treats from your fingers. She does hang sometimes with the other dogs as seen in the photos. So having another dog in home is a must for her to understand how to be a dog. She can not be handle but she will sit in the room on a dog bed or next to you on a couch if other dogs are around. She is not a lap dog. Because she is frightened quickly, she has not been taken outside because not sure how noises outside and the wide-open space would affect her and whether she will be controllable. Foster home is still working on that. She is 95% potty pad trained. Sometimes when she hears a noise and runs, she may potty just because of running. But 95% of the time she used potty pads. PENNY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMEONE WHO WOULD JUST LET HER LIVE QUIETLY AND LEARN TO BE PART OF THE FAMILY. If you think you would like to make Penny part of your family, please fill out an Adoption Application and someone will call and talk to you about her personality.  She is a very sweet dog but not sure if she will ever adjust to loud noises. If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Money’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. SECURE FENCE  (no electric fences) REQUIRED “Meet Harris….an adorable little 5 year old Chihuahua/Toy Fox Terrier mix, weighing approx 9 pounds. He was found as a stray in a St. Louis neighborhood, and after he was taken to a shelter, he was never claimed by anyone.   Harris is very friendly, happy, snuggly, and sometimes playful. He would do best in a home with another small adult dog for companionship, no children, and a “secure” fenced yard. Harris is healthy, current on his immunizations, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped, and he has just recently had his teeth cleaned.”   If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. FENCE (no electric fences) AND COMPANION DOG REQUIRED “Meet Hank…a beautiful “red” Chihuahua mix, approx 3 years old, and weighing 9 pounds. He came to our rescue group after being found in a hoarder’s home with 14 other Chihuahua’s who were neglected and abused. Hank is a very sweet, friendly, playful, and extremely snuggly little guy. He requires a home with another small playful dog that is near his age and energy level for companionship, a secure fenced yard to go potty and run and play in, and no children living in the home. Hank is healthy, current on his immunizations, heartworm negative, neutered, and microchipped.” If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. ** ADOPTER HAVING DOG SOCIALIZATION SKITTISH EXPERIENCE & PATIENCE IS PREFERRED** ** JANICE REQUIRES ANOTHER DOG IN THE HOME & FENCED YARD FOR SAFETY** QUIETER HOME & NO KIDS TO KEEP JANICE FROM DOOR DARTING ** Meet our Sweet Janice Joplin! She's a 2 yr old, 14 lb, Terrier Mix. Janice was rescued on Jan 15 from a Hoarder/Breeder situation, with very little socialization and she's been with fosters since being rescued in January, learning how to be a dog using other dogs as mentors for her. She REQUIRES another companion dog in the family and would LOVE for that dog to be a player!! She LOVES to play and run with other dogs! When she sees other dogs thru the fence, she barks a lot due to excitement! She also barks a lot when you return home and the excitement she shows to be happy to see you! She does not like you to touch or pet her yet and it will be her learning skill as she becomes part of your family. She's close to that stage but still does not understand human touch. When you're in the room, she'll lay across from you in a dog bed on the sofa watching you and the other dogs. She seems to REALLY want to be normal but is still afraid when you reach down to touch her. She's housebroken but occasionally, she will pee on a potty pad late in the night. Not sure if that's because she didn't take time to go before bed.  It's random. She will not walk on leash and growls when you touch her or pick her up. She never bites, but just growls to let you know she's afraid. Once you catch her, foster parents were able to put her in bathtub and give her a bath and dry her off. Gives you a better chance for her to sit in your lap. She is afraid of it but the more "lap time" she gets, the more she will adapt. We think that if she found the perfect family who understand semi-feral dogs like her and will accommodate her needs and show her love forever, she may grow with you and let you pet her eventually.  These types of dogs seem to try really hard to be like the other dogs.   If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Janice Joplin’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. Story
Hi! I’m Joey and I’m a fabulous 14 year old senior gentleman. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m a very handsome red long-haired Chihuahua weighing just 10 lbs. I’m looking for my perfect family who will love me and provide me with a nice, quiet home in my golden years. I’m pretty happy with the simple things in life such as cuddling with my people, meal times and naps. I mean what else does one really need? If you’d like to run errands, I’m your man. I love to ride in the car and am the best little passenger you could ever have. Sometimes, though, I can get a little cranky when it comes to sharing my people with the other doggies. I would do well in a home where I’m the only dog, so the competition for mom or dad’s love won’t exist. Ideally, I would be pampered with attention in my golden years and not be subjected to youngsters, as that wouldn’t be so great for me or them. I would really love it if my new mom or dad would be at home with me more often than not, so I would not have to spend my days being left alone and crated. However, I don’t mind being crated for a couple of hours while my family runs errands. I know it might be asking a lot, but I do love sleeping in bed with foster mom at night and have become kinda spoiled, so a home that would continue to spoil me in that way would make me so happy. I’m working on potty training … let’s say I’m a work in progress. As I came from a puppy mill situation, I was not taught this skill as a young puppy, but I’m working on it now. I do have one small issue with my eyes called chronic dry eye which requires daily medication for the rest of my life. I am really very good about taking my medication for this so it is not a big deal. I am a lovable and sweet little man and would make a wonderful companion. I’m up to date on all my shots, am heartworm negative, on heartworm and flea preventative, neutered, microchipped, and de-wormed. Joey’s adoption fee is $250. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging transport. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS. If you’re interested in having Joey as a part of your family, please fill out an application on AAP’s website.

Story
Meet Todd! Todd is a 1 year old chihuahua/terrier mix, weighs 10 lbs. and is the sweetest, most loving, little guy. He would do well in a home with at least one other active and small dog (20 pounds or less), younger people (no toddlers or babies) and adults. He has a good amount of energy and likes to receive a lot of attention from his family. He also likes to play outside, therefore a fenced-in yard is a requirement. He is also learning to walk on a leash and would enjoy a daily walk to do his business. He sleeps in a large crate at night, but loves to be out and about during the day. He loves, loves, loves to sit in your lap and give kisses. He likes to vocalize his enthusiasm, and probably wouldn’t be the best candidate for apartment living. He has completed his checkup with the vet, and is ready to find his new family. He does have crystals in his urine, which are being monitored, and needs to have prescription food. Todd is neutered, up to date on all his vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. He’s also microchipped and dewormed. Todd’s adoption fee is $350. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging transport. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS. If you're looking for a very sweet and lovable little fella to join your family, please fill out an application on AAP’s website.

Story
Hi, I’m Tango! I’m an 8 year old Terrier mix, weigh 12 lbs, and am a quiet little guy. My owner passed away, so I’m just staying to myself, trying to make sense of everything. I crave attention and love, and really like it when my foster mom sits and talks to me and loves on me, but I’m not really much of a lapdog. If I’m in her lap, it’s only for a brief moment and then I’m gone again. I sleep in a large crate at night, with lots of blankets and stuffed animals. I snuggle in and sleep quietly through the night. I’m enjoying chewing on bully sticks and other chewies, and playing with toys that make noise or have squeakers in them. I do like to go outside, and foster mom says that I’m a “work in progress” with my potty training. I get along well with other dogs (small dogs 20 lbs. or less), and would do well in a home with or without doggies. I do tend to vocalize quite loudly when playing, and might not do well in an apartment setting. I would do well in a home with younger people (no toddlers or babies) and adults. I would enjoy walks, and as long as I’m walked frequently and monitored on a leash, I do not require a fence. Please don’t leave me unsupervised outside; I would want your attention all the time. Since my owner passed away, I need someone who is going to re-teach me some of the rules about going potty, learning to snuggle with the family, you know…all that stuff. Tango is neutered, up to date on all his vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. He’s had a dental, is microchipped and dewormed. Tango’s adoption fee is $300. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL CHECKS. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging transport. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS. If you're looking for a very sweet and lovable little guy to join your family, please fill out an application on AAP’s website.
