Story
If you're looking for a low-key companion to sit at home and chill with, Marla is your girl! Marla is a blind older lady but she does not let that stop her! She is full of spunk and personality and loves to explore and strut her stuff. Marla would do best in a more calm environment since she can't see her surroundings and can become overwhelmed if there is too much going on. Marla really is a sweetheart that deserves only the finest things in life through her golden years. All dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, Heartworm tested (6 months and above,) and current on vaccinations and preventions prior to adoption. At the time of adoption all dogs are signed up with a unique Safe Paws QR pet ID tag, the adopter is required to maintain a monthly membership of $2.99/month for (at minimum) the first year. This helps insure your new furry family member makes his way back to you if lost. Leashes and collars are also required at the time of adoption. You are welcome to bring your own, or we have plenty to choose from at the shelter as well. If the pet you fall in love with is not quite ready for adoption, we do offer a $50 hold deposit that will insure you have first "dibs on adoption. Once an animal is available for adoption, we are not able to hold them, as there are so many animals waiting to come into our program. Our shelter is located at 10312 East 63rd Street in Raytown, MO. We are open to meet pets Tuesday through Friday from 10-6, and on Saturday and Sunday from 10-5. We are closed on Mondays. You are welcome to fill out our quick 10 question adoption survey to facilitate a quicker process. This will also start the meeting process for those animals in foster care: Marla is a senior gal with a lot left to give. She is mostly blind but that doesn't slow her down. Marla is sweet and loves the comfort of a couch. If you're looking for the perfect gal to lounge with you, look no further. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/MARQ/Dog

Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption.Temu is about 2 years old, spayed, up to date on all required vetting. Her adoption fee is $200.Meet Temu!Temu came to us from a situation of neglect with multiple other dogs. She is slowly learning to trust humans, and does have quite a few canine friends that are helping her do just that! Temu takes a minute to get acquainted with people, but once you're in, you are her best friend for life! She bonds fiercely to her people once given the chance to open up. She does well with other dogs, but would be best with a playful male dog that could match her energy. If you are interested in Temu, please fill out an application today!January 30, 2025, 11:37 pm

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only. If you are interested in Rani and Rajah, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org. Rani and Rajah are a bonded pair and we will only consider applications for them as a pair. Their joint adoption fee is $400. Meet Rani and Rajah, a bonded pair of affectionate and playful pups looking for their forever home together! Rajah is a ~6.5 lb, ~7 yr old Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix & Rani is a ~4.5 lb, ~6 yr old longhair Chihuahua mix.  They are both fixed, up to date on vaccines/vetting, and microchipped. These two can be shy with new people at first, but they don’t take long to open up – especially with treats! They’re very sweet, love to sit on laps, and give kisses – particularly Rani. They also never miss the sound—or smell—of food. Speaking of sounds, they can both be chatterboxes at times – especially when looking out the window. Whether they’re telling you about the other dogs in the neighborhood, sharing their thoughts on life, or letting you know there’s someone at the door, you’ll be in the know with these little ones around! They also enjoy playing, chasing each other around and wrestling.  However, while they love their playtime, they also know how to relax and are excellent nappers. Rajah & Rani would thrive in a calm, low-stress home where they can get plenty of love and attention.  They currently live with 2 other small dogs who they like to play with and one large cat they like to chase (but they don't cause any harm). Rajah may also mark occasionally, especially when nervous or excited, but both dogs will use potty pads reliably and if taken out every few hours during the day, they do not have any accidents. Overnight, they are crate trained in their own kennel and do not have any accidents. They’re not asking for much – just a cozy lap to sit on, some yummy snacks, and someone who understands their quirky, lovable personalities. Do you have room in your heart and home for them?  Apply to adopt them here: https://airtable.com/appSPhLE13PnzF251/shrfj3aSY6isMmO2V    January 31, 2025, 3:36 pm

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only. Please fill out our online adoption application at kcpaws.org and our team will contact you to set up a meet and greet. Adoption fee: $300 Sheba is a sweet 6 year old chihuahua looking for a home of her very own. She weighs about 10 pounds. Sheba came to us with little understanding of how to be a house pet. She was snippy and scared, and didn't want us to touch her. Now, with a little time and patience, and a wonderful foster home, Sheba is flourishing and is ready for her fur-ever home! Sheba gets along great with other animals, and does well with people once she gets a moment to get comfortable. Once she loves you, she REALLY loves you and will stick to your side like velcro. Sheba is very smart and a quick learner! She is doing great with potty training now that she has a good routine, and she really thrives on a schedule. If you think Sheba could be a good fit for you, apply today! She can't wait to meet you.February 12, 2025, 1:04 pm

Story
Approx. DOB: 7/29/16                 Approx Weight: 20 Lbs Adoption Fee: $200 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Petey was with at least 11 other dogs in his prior home.  They lost their rental home and gave up most of the dogs.  Petey is on the chunky side but on a diet. When he came to us he was skin and bones,  complete hair loss on his back and legs.  His fur loss was due to fleas. Poor little guy was a mess. He has always been very trusting of us especially during all the medicated baths he had to have. Petey really likes dogs his size and others that aren't over 35pds. No super active young ones that expect him to play all the time.  Did you notice Petey's great smile? He is a really happy boy and smiles a lot!  We were told Petey is housebroken, however he is still waiting for a foster home to become open. He never has accidents in his crate and we always send a belly band home with boy dogs.  Check them out online. They are a great tool in helping boys not mark. We will cat test Petey if needed.   I have been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support!
