Story
8/6/24 Is there not a Chihuahua person out there looking for a little guy who does not ask for much attention? He enjoys being in his ex pen watching the other dogs but not being bothered by them. He's quick to get his business done outside but does need to wear a belly band inside as he likes to sometimes sneak a marking in. Where is his person? He's still waiting .10/24/23 Yes, Toby is a Grumpy old man. But he doesn't require much attention. He's quiet in his exercise pen and likes to stroll around the fenced yard. He'll find a sunny spot to soak up some sun, and then he's ready to come back in and climb back in his bed. Toby is a Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix, approximately 6 years old. He came to us from being saved off the streets of a big Texas town. Toby needs a home that can help him trust people. He doesn't really want to be handled but likes to observe from a safe space out of the reach of people. Toby craves the safety of his crate - he will go outside into the fenced yard when you open his crate door, and he comes back in when called and will hop in his crate. He does not appreciate hands in his crate, so if you need to pick him up, talking quietly to him in an area where he cannot hide, he will allow you to pick him up and accept a few skritches. He's black and white and weighs about 10 pounds. He gets along with all the other dogs here and will need a securely fenced yard and someone who will allow him to relax and be with you without needing much attention until he knows he's safe. To inquire, please complete our application first, www.bongosbuddiesrescue.com .

Story
Hi, I am Razz! I am a very sweet, low-key girl that is looking for my new best friend! I like cuddling up on the couch, playing with toys and chew toys. I get along well with my foster family‘s dog and cats, but it’s also ok if I’m the only pet because people are my favorite! I may be small in size at only 8 pounds, but I have a huge heart and lots of love to give… I can’t wait to meet my person! We only adopt to people in the St. Louis METRO area. Story
*SPECIAL NEEDS - MENTALLY CHALLENGED- secure fenced yard - companion dog required* Meet Money Penny!   She's 8 yrs old, 14 lbs, Chihuahua Mix. Penny is a Special Needs Dog due to genetics. She was brought into rescue with 3 other dogs we believe were siblings.  She's fine physically . Her biggest issue is her fear, slow comprehension and super sensitive t o noises and she'll run to safe zone.   She eats well, and she will take food & treats from your fingers. She does hang sometimes with the other dogs as seen in the photos. So having another dog in home is a must for her to understand how to be a dog. She can not be handle but she will sit in the room on a dog bed or next to you on a couch if other dogs are around. She is not a lap dog. Because she is frightened quickly, she has not been taken outside because not sure how noises outside and the wide-open space would affect her and whether she will be controllable. Foster home is still working on that. She is 95% potty pad trained. Sometimes when she hears a noise and runs, she may potty just because of running. But 95% of the time she used potty pads. PENNY WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMEONE WHO WOULD JUST LET HER LIVE QUIETLY AND LEARN TO BE PART OF THE FAMILY. If you think you would like to make Penny part of your family, please fill out an Adoption Application and someone will call and talk to you about her personality.  She is a very sweet dog but not sure if she will ever adjust to loud noises. If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Money’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Story
Meet Wendell! Wendell is 2 years old, 14 lbs, and a real heart-melter! This little guy is some kind of chihuahua mix with beautiful reddish spots. He is a little nervous when meeting new people and might try to hide under the nearest table, but once he's gotten acquainted with you, he'll be snuggled up in no time! He loves to play with stuffies and squeaky toys, chase squirrels in the yard, and go on walks.  Wendell came to the pound with his sister and when his owner was identified, the owner took his sister home, but left Wendell behind. He stayed in the pound for two months, stuck in a wire cage almost 24/7. That was very difficult for Wendell because he loves people and cuddling so much. Fortunately, Needy Paws was able to tag him and he is now in a foster home, enjoying plenty of love. Because Wendell was stuck in a cage for so long, he gets very stressed when he has to be kenneled. The ideal home for him would not require him to stay in a kennel for a large portion of the day. He would be a great fit for someone who works from home or an active retiree.   He is still working on potty training but making good progress, and now that he has been neutered, we expect him to continue improving. Even though he is a small dog, he would benefit from a home that would work with him on his doggie manners. For example, sometimes he will lightly "nibble" your hands when you are petting him, so the ideal home would continue reinforcing the lesson that when he nibbles, the petting stops. He would enjoy another small or medium dog in his adoptive home. He would also be fine with kids as long as they are gentle with him. We don't know if he has ever been around cats, but could cat-test him if needed. Wendell does not require a fenced yard if his adopter is able to take him on regular walks. If his adopter does have a fence, it needs to be very secure so that he cannot squeeze under it -- he has been known to squeeze under fences in pursuit of squirrels!   Small dogs can live well into their teens, so please keep that in mind when planning for a future with Wendell. If Wendell sounds like your new best friend, apply to meet him today! If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO.
