Story
Ella Mae has arrived from Mexico! This sweet girl has had a tough life but is looking forward to a new beginning! She is so sweet & gentle natured. She's calm but loves to explore. She is looking forward to a slow retirement home filled with love! Age: 12 Breed:  Chi Mix Weight:  12 lbs Kid-friendly: Great with kiddos but she is shy so we recommend older kiddos. Dogs: She's pretty bossy so she would need a very tolerant dog. She likes to bark orders! Cats: Yes but again, bossy ;) Crate trained: Yes! Potty trained: Yes! Health concerns: She only has two teeth! Adoption fee: $175 As a rescue, we provide the care, procedures and testing that is available to us.      Adopters will be responsible for continued preventatives, follow-up appointments, and medications (if applicable). At times, adopters will be responsible for procedures not completed in rescue (dentals, bloodwork, etc.) Your new dog will receive their rabies and distemper vaccine. $50 discount for seniors (65+) and veterans. Adoption fees help pay for the dog's veterinary exam, vaccinations (rabies and distemper) HW test, a microchip, and spay/neuter if needed and additional health needs specific to each animal.  Grey Face Rescue does not adopt outside of Minnesota for now. We apologize for the inconvenience. We do not adopt animals to families whose current pets are not up-to-date on vaccinations or not altered. Exceptions may be made for medical reasons as stated by a veterinarian and we will require proof of that recommendation. Thank you for understanding our mission to reduce overpopulation. Once you submit your application, our adoption manager will be in touch, so please check your spam folder if you do not see something from us within 7-10 days. Thank you again for your interest in a Grey Face senior. We appreciate your support!  February 4, 2024, 9:22 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Lincoln (Linc for short, Lincoln Marshall when he’s in trouble), a 10-year-old, 7-pound Chihuahua mix with a whole lot of personality! This feisty little man is a mix of goofy, playful, and independent, with a protective streak that adds to his charm. While he’s not a fan of strangers (he may try to “gum” them with his toothless grin), he adores his people and will happily cuddle up for lap time or romp around with his toys. Linc is crate trained, rides well in the car, and gets along with adults, dogs of all sizes, and even dog-savvy cats. However, he doesn’t have much patience for kids and will bark at them to let them know. His potty training is still a work in progress, and he thrives best in a home where his barking won’t be a problem—so apartment living may not be ideal. Lincoln’s quirky tongue-out smile (thanks to no teeth!) is sure to melt your heart, and his love for food will keep you laughing. If you’re looking for a fun, lovable companion who’s got just the right amount of spice, Linc is your guy! *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. Lincoln is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 23, 2025, 11:28 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Smoke is such a sweet little guy that needs to feel safe and then his lovable nature absolutely shines through.   He is cautious of new people so needs thoughtful slow introductions and a little time for him to adjust.   He has gravitated toward the kids he has met although fast movements can be very startling to him.    Dog savvy and older kids who understand his need for space and to gain trust will be a better fit.     He loves to be near his favorite people and will follow you around but can also settle down in a comfy bed and be content.   He absolutely loves to be held or cuddle up on the couch next to his humans.    He is underweight and due to the food insecurity in his past, needs to be fed separately, then he relaxes and enjoys his meals.   He can be nervous around dogs bigger than him so would do best with a doggy friend around his size that he can also continue to learn all dog things from.    Although another dog is not a requirement, learning from another well adjusted dog will help him continue to gain confidence and become less fearful.   He is still getting used to different sounds and can be easily startled.   He will typically bark a couple of times at these noises but calms down with reassurance.    Shared walls are probably not an ideal home as he does tend to have some separation anxiety and will bark for a short time when left alone.   He kennels up without problems, sleeping in his kennel at night but within sight of his people and dog friends.   He is not too sure yet what toys are for but loves to alligator roll around in dog beds and blankets which is adorable.  Speaking of adorable, check out his underbite!!   Also, belly rubs are high on the list of his favorite activities.  Potty training is going very well.   He is very food motivated making training much easier.  He does not enjoy the cold weather so typically does his business very quickly so that he can get back inside fast.  He is a low to medium energy dog.    Smoke has not had an easy life to begin with so new sounds and people can be scary things to him.   However, he is making progress every day.   He will need a patient family that will continue to introduce him slowly to new things and to help him become the amazing little dog that we already know he is!    If you are looking for a super sweet, loyal guy that needs some extra TLC to help him come out of his shell, then this little gem may be the one! Smoke is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Skye!  He is such a sweet little guy who is still afraid of dog life due to his rough start. He will need an adopter who is willing to continue to expose him to new things so he knows it is safe and ok. Once he knows you he loves to be next to you and snuggle in bed! We are doing a lot of training with him and he is a smart guy!  He is learning about his kennel, potty training, walking on a leash and car rides.  He is doing ok with all so far and will continue to get better as he gets more confident.  Skye has a lot of love to give and deserves the best life-let me know if that is with you!   If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Linny is an affectionate and playful puppy who loves cuddling and frolicking with her toys. She’s currently working on her leash manners and can be a bit vocal when new guests arrive, as she gets a little nervous at first. Linny leans on her brother for comfort, so a confident dog in the home would help her feel more at ease and show her the ropes. Though she needs a moment to warm up to new people, once she does, she’s all love and snuggles. Linny is a pro in her crate and is doing great with potty training outside. She’s also working on curbing her digging habits and refining her adorable ballet jumps. With her sweet nature and playful spirit, Linny is sure to brighten any home she joins!   Linny is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 2/8 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am-12pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Brooks is a bouncy, playful pup who is eager to please and wants to say hello to everyone! He is still learning a few things as he is just a baby, but is getting used to the good life after being abandoned by mom and then finally caught by rescuers; he and his siblings were skittish at first! Now he's safe and ready to give you all the love he can. Brooks loves to chew on toys and hang out by your side, he does well with all kinds of people and animals. He is working on not jumping on people to say hello, but when he does jump he gets so much spring in his jump that he looks like a ballerina! Brooks would love to have a buddy to play with at home, but would do fine as a single dog too.   Brooks is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 2/8 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and 12pm.
