When Colby first arrived, he was malnourished, weak, and rocking some serious hip dysplasia—but let me tell you, a little love, good food, and some doggy friendships turned this guy into a whole new dog! Gone are the days of him curling up in our laps in pain, looking at us with those “I’m happy, but also my joints are garbage” eyes. Now? Now he’s a certified wild child. He’s zooming, he’s wrestling, he’s chasing his friends, and he’s probably chewing on something important right now, but we’re just happy he’s having fun. (He thinks they’re just smaller, snack-dispensing playmates) Things Colby Is Learning (A.K.A. “Work In Progress”) Kennel training: He’s working on it, but he’s still convinced that life outside the kennel is far superior. Potty training: He’s trying very hard, but sometimes he gets distracted by the important business of playing. Leash training: Ah, yes. The leash. Colby does not understand why a weird rope needs to be attached to him for walkies. We tell him it’s “normal,” but he remains highly suspicious. Colby’s Ideal Home Colby doesn’t need a fence, but he does need a family who will help him with his leash skills. He gets along with ALL dogs, is curious about cats but not obsessed, and adores kids. He’s looking for someone to continue his training, keep up with his zoomies, and provide an unlimited supply of treats (not a requirement, but highly encouraged). I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! P lease note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   This puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. At just a young age, he's already leash, crate, and mostly potty trained! He’s a lap-loving, water-splashing, car-ride-enjoying little guy who gets along great with other dogs. Daphne is a devoted friend whose owner suffered a traumatic brain injury and can no longer care for her. Daphne loves routine, and is very communicative when she needs to go outside or wants a treat. She uses pee pads when going outside isn't an option. She can get anxious when her routine changes drastically. She's having a hard time now that her owner has been hospitalized. She loves to interact with other dogs, and she likes people.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Guero (pronounced "where-o") is a 3 to 4 year old chihuahua mix who was surrendered to MCHS on 12/23/2024. His owner moved to town and couldn't find a place that would allow pets. We've been working with Guero since he came in as he's a pretty shy guy who wanted nothing to do with us at first. He's come a long way and now seems pretty happy and comfortable. He will be vet checked and neutered on March 13th and his fee is $150. Guero is still pretty shy with new people but we think he's ready to venture into a new home. He's looking for a somewhat quiet and calm, adult only home (teens are fine). He has done okay with other smaller dogs as long as they're respectful. We have no way of knowing how he'd do with cats. With patience and love, he has the potential to be a loving companion. I have this highly infectious joyful personality that you just can't help but smile and feel good. I'm one of those barrel full of fun chihuahuas that finds joy in just living life! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Cherokee is a dog-social little man who is looking to retire in a comfy home with lots of beds to lounge on. He enjoys looking out the window when driving in the car and then curls up and takes a nap. He is in a foster home with 7 other dogs and they weigh from 7 - 75 lbs and he is friendly to all of them, with slow intros. He hasn't paid any mind to the cats, as there are four running around the foster home. In his previous home he did sleep in a bathroom with a pillow, and has had a dog friend his whole life. In his foster home he sleeps with many blankets and pillows in a room, free range, and holds his potty all night. He is excellent at going potty outside in the morning and enjoys treats; the meatier the better! This little man breaks the mold in his social ability to greet strangers being a chihuahua and he would love to find his forever happily ever after home that would allow him to rest and be loved for the little prince he is. Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package!
