Story
It's kind of scary to make new friends when you're a shy guy like me, but I sure try! I'm Ernie, a cute as can be, 7-year-old Chihuahua mix. I'm here at Animal Ark because, unfortunately, my owner became ill and couldn't continue my care. I am used to living in a home with just the 2 of us, so I would do best as the only pet in my new home, without children. Once I get to know you, I want to be your lap companion and get all the attention you can give. I'm very smart and know lots of commands, plus I'm crate trained and housebroken. I will need some time to adjust to new surroundings so I'm looking for a patient owner who will work with me on getting comfortable. Please fill out an adoption application online we can get a meet and greet scheduled!

Story
CLEO | 7 years old | 10-pounds*Alright, STOP. Collaborate and listen…She cute but she is expensive.Cleo will need prescription food and medication for the remainder of her life. Still interested? Read on!—--Straight from her foster’s mouth to your ears.. erhmm.. eyes.. learn more about Cleo directly from the source! They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend.. And you better have a lot of them. To sell. To pay for her vet care.Haha! Just kidding! *looks around* Kind of..Cleo has a condition called protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) caused by irritable bowel disease. She loses proteins from her bloodstream into her GI tract faster than her body can replenish them and her medical management helps regulate this condition.Cleo’s daily life is unaffected by this and she does your everyday dog things. The only addition is giving her medication (pills) with her morning and evening meals which she takes without problem.Still interested? Then you’re ready to hear our secret..—--Cleo is a GEM. A truly one-of-a-kind companion. So without further ado, here’s what you need to know about Cleo!Extremely smart. Eats her own poop. In a glass-half-full kind of world, you could consider her a self-poop picker-upper. (But really, you are going to have to go out in those subzero temps and pick up her poop before she does.)In all seriousness, she is one of the best potty-trained dogs we have ever had. And she understands cues so quickly. She even knows sit, shake, high five, and can catch her food mid-air!Farts can clear a room. They just get stronger. Rootin’ Tootin’ Cleo should be in the Guinness Book of Records or something.Teeters on being the fun police. Still fun.Cleo coexists with dogs big and small but can sometimes be a playtime hall monitor. That said, if she finds the right dog with the right playstyle, she has a good time playing chase and wrestling!Loves tug o’ war. Hates fetch. If you throw her toy, she’s going to look at you like what are you even doing. On a scale of one to barky, she’s about a five. While Cleo doesn’t bark all day long, she is going to warn you about car doors slamming, people talking, the general goings on of the world. And her bark be loud so shared walls may not be the best fit for her. She stops with some guidance pretty quickly.. usually.. sometimes..Loves food. Hates sharing. Cleo’s favorite times of the day are, hands down, breakfast and dinner. And she’s got that only child syndrome (I can say that, I’m an only child) where everything is hers. Her food. Her toys. Your food. All hers. And she will tell anyone who needs to know.Cleo doesn’t currently live with cats but has in the past and takes it in stride. As long as she’s the center of attention, that’s all she really needs.Supposedly a Chihuahua/Pug mix. Definitely just as needy. Pug parents, am I right? Cleo will climb on your lap, push her way to your hands, and really doesn’t care if she’s stepping on another dog to get to the top. We mean that figuratively. Well.. except for those times when she’s literally walking over a dog to get to you.Likes to give kisses. Licks everything. Literally everything.. the couch, the floor, the carpet, the coffee table, your clothes, and your face.Cleo is great with kids of all ages but it’s probably best that she live in a home with teens or no kids on account of how much she loves food. Because she has PLE, Cleo needs to be on a restricted diet and can’t be catching scraps or snagging food from those little hands. Because she would. She totally would. This girl’s personality is a great balance of play and chill, and she walks so well on a leash.. when it’s actually warm out.. A lap dog through and through, Cleo wants to be snuggled in with you, often under a blanket (Chihuahua parents, you get it). She's content to snooze on the couch or a dog bed when you're gone and she can fit into any social situation.Cleo is one of the best dogs out there and whoever has the privilege of adopting her is going to know love (and toots) beyond measure!—--*Opening Line Credit: Vanilla Ice - “Ice Ice Baby”Cleo came to Pet Haven Rescue with a severe case of PLE. Her levels are back to normal with the help of food and medication management.More on protein-losing enteropathy (PLE): https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/proteinlosing-enteropathy-ple-in-dogs—--If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling: https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. Story
Meet Cuddles! This adorable pup is a 5 month-old Chihuahua/Cattle Dog mix and approximately 23 lbs. This loving girl is looking for a forever home where she can continue to be her silly self while loving on her people! If you’re looking for a social butterfly to add to your family, she’s the one for you.Cuddles has made great progress in potty training! She still has the occasional accident when she’s excited but she has gotten her daily routine down. After all, her nickname is “Puddles”! She’s also crate trained and is getting used to spending longer periods of alone time. She’s not known to bark or howl when home alone and is likely to do well when adjusting to new routines. As Cuddles is still learning, she’s done okay with slow introductions to other dogs. She can sometimes play a bit rough and is slow to pick up on social cues. She has not yet had any interactions with cats. When meeting new animals, we recommend slow introductions so Cuddles can feel confident in new situations. Cuddles hasn’t spent time with kids yet, but she loves human attention and is a major cuddle bug! She’ll likely do well with dog savvy kids who can help her learn boundaries.Cuddles is very energetic and would prefer a routine that is medium to high activity. She enjoys a daily walk with playtime in between. She loves to explore the backyard and is curious of her surroundings. A fenced yard in her forever home would be a great bonus but is not a requirement given she can burn off energy in other ways.Cuddles is ready to find her forever home! With continued love and affection, Cuddles will be sure to thrive! If you’re interested in learning more about Cuddles and think she might be a good fit, fill out an application using the link below to learn more! https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $550. Snapshot of Emmet Size? Small Activity Level? Low Noise Level? Sometimes I bark when I play Good with Dogs? I would love a dog friend! Good with Cats? Dog-savvy cats are okay Good with Kids? Yes, but I haven't met any very small children. Good with Strangers? I want to be friends with everyone! Potty Trained? Yup Crate Trained? I'll happily go in, but sometimes I bark when you leave. Shedding? Medium About Emmet Hi, my name is Emmet and I have so much love to give! I'm small enough to fit right on your lap and that's my preferred place. If you aren't sitting down, I'll follow you from room to room so you don't get lonely. I like going on walks but I don't need a ton of exercise-I'm happy to entertain myself at home with my toys! Spinning myself in circles is my favorite way to play! I live with a cat who's not interested in playing with me, but I keep hoping he'll change his mind. Maybe he doesn't like that I try to eat his dinner? I love meeting other dogs on walks and I bet it would be so fun to have another dog in the house to play with! I'm pretty good on the leash, but if something catches my attention, it can be difficult to redirect me, but I'm working on it! I love to learn and I've mastered sit, down, crate, feast (my release word for meals!), and I'm working on some others. My secret talent is finding the tastiest trash on my walks-and then eating it! Unrelated, I'm sure, but I've had some digestion issues in the past, so now I get probiotics with my food, which has helped a lot. When I meet new people, I'll jump up to say hi (since I'm only 12 pounds, no one seems to mind) and give them all the licks I can, but after the initial excitement, I settle down quickly. I like hanging out in my crate during the day while my human works next to me, but when everyone leaves, I bark a little just to make sure they didn't forget me, but then I quiet down after a few minutes. I used to bark a lot in there, so maybe with more practice, I won't need to at all! Overnight, I sleep quietly in my crate but sometimes I wake up before my humans and I whine to let them know I'm up and ready to start the day. I'd love a home where I get to be around you a lot. I really am the sweetest cuddlebug you'll ever meet. My idea of a perfect night is to be nestled up to you on the couch with my nose buried in your elbow crook until I drift off to sleep. Emmet is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for his age. My name is Fanta, and I'm just the sweetest little bundle of joy you could ever meet! I'm a delightful little mix of Chihuahua and Dachshund (I think), and I'm on a mission to fill your life with love, laughter, and puppy snuggles! I'm doing really well with my potty training, though I'm still learning the ropes-so I promise to keep working on it! One thing I have mastered, though, is sleeping like a champion in my cozy crate all night long. So you can count on me to be a good night-time companion! I wouldn't be complete without telling you about my favorite thing in the world: snuggling! I adore rolling up in a warm blanket or curling up next to my humans for some sweet cuddle time. Oh, and don't forget the kisses; I have plenty to share! I'm currently living with my super fun sister, Fresca! We are the dynamic duo-best buds who play and wrestle for hours on end! We're experts at sharing our toys and racing around the backyard to burn off all that puppy energy. We might be tiny, but oh boy, can we play hard! My petite little frame comes with adorably wimpy barks-it's true! While I might not sound like a fierce guard dog, I promise my loving personality makes up for it. I get along fabulously with my foster siblings, which include two curious cats and another Chihuahua mix. I'm so good with new people, kids, and even strangers-we're all friends here! With my short-hair coat, I've been told I don't shed much, so I'll keep your couch and clothes looking pretty good! If you're looking to add a little sunshine and a whole lot of love to your life, I would love to be your puppy! Can't wait to meet you and see if you're the perfect place for my forever home!
