These sweet boys are a bit shy at first, but with patience and understanding, they will warm up to their new family. They’re searching for a quiet environment with no other dogs, cats, or young children, as they tend to feel most comfortable in calm surroundings. Ideally, their new owner will have experience with Chihuahuas and be able to provide them with the time and space they need to build trust and confidence. If you're ready to offer these little guys a gentle, loving home, they’ll reward you with loyalty and affection as they settle in and grow more comfortable. Interested in adopting? Age: Approximately 4 years old Weight: 22 lbs Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Unknown/not tested Potty trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Hi there! I'm Mr. Baker, and before I tell you about myself, I'd like to give you a great big hug. You didn't know dogs could give hugs, did you?! It's a special talent of mine. I like to put my front legs up on your shoulders and rest my head right in your neck. It's one of many ways I show my affection - my humans describe me as snuggly, affectionate, and a bit of a Velcro-dog. I like other dogs, but really, it's all about the snuggles with humans. And walks! Boy, do I love walks. With some reminders, I'm getting pretty good at not pulling on my leash, and I'm friendly and respectful when I run into other dogs or humans on the sidewalk. If you like to run, I would also make a GREAT exercise partner - I'll keep your pace, and I'd be so happy to be by your side! I also love to play with toys in the yard. Chase me! Although, I must admit, I am quite tricksy. Just when you think I'm about to give you the toy back - aha! I am off again. I am also proud to share that I am an excellent listener and am very eager to please and show how smart I am. I know "off" when it's time to get off of the bed or furniture, and I know "leave it" when that ANNOYING neighbor dog keeps barking in the backyard! I trot right back over to my humans. I am also very good at "sit," and I am practicing with "wait." I take treats so gently, you can barely even feel it! There are a few other important things do know about me. First, I can be a little anxious. You can tell when I'm more anxious because my legs get a little wibbly-wobbly. Every so often, I also like to find a rogue napkin that someone's forgotten about (or maybe my mom's student papers she brings home sometimes to grade...) and I like to rip it up into tiny little pieces. I don't chew on anything else or make a mess of things - I just like my little paper shreds. The second important thing is that I take guarding my house VERY seriously...my humans tell me a little too seriously. Together, we are practicing that it is okay when new people come into MY space and that I don't need to bare my teeth, bark, or act big and tough. I have never bitten anybody, but when I am anxious and thinking about protecting my space, I have thought about it. I will need a forever home that can continue to help me with this. I also take a medicine now that helps me with my anxiety - this helps me feel more calm. Once I get used to new people, oh my, do I love belly rubs and give those great hugs and show my affectionate side! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   Mickey (10yo, 15lb) is a happy ol’ Chihuahua/terrier mix who is looking for a nice quiet home to curl up on the couch and watch DogTV. Mickey is the type of guy who will find his person, and that’s where he’s at! Mickey is a little cautious when you meet him, but he will warm up with some time & shredded chicken. He goes potty outside, walks nice on a leash, and is very respectful in his foster home. Mickey  does well with the cats in his foster home also, even though most of them are bigger than him! We do want to find a home for Mickey that has another dog his size and energy level so he has someone to hang out and nap with. Mickey loves to be involved in the activities of his environment (and by activities, we mean curling up in peoples laps. He will rotate around the room so everyone gets a turn!)  The ideal home for Mickey would have adults who are home often and/or a k9 companion, but maybe no small kids. Mickey loves going for a drive around the town and cruisin’ in his doggy car seat. He loves long walks, enjoying the scenery, and sniffing flowers, trees, rocks… you name it!  Mickey loves to cuddle up with his human after a long hard day of sleeping, eating, and being a good boy. If you're looking for your shadow in a tiny brown & white body ... you found him! Interested in adopting? Please complete an interest form on our website  here . Story
Poppy will love you like no other. The line should perhaps read,  Poppy will love you but maybe no one else. One must truly understand the makeup of some Chi mixes, they sometimes pick their person and could care less about anyone else. Poppy will let other people know if she wants a pet from you or not quickly by showing her teeth and a bit of a growl. She has chosen my ten year old granddaughter as her person. I can pet and hold her most times except when she is laying down in her chair on the couch or her bed. She gets along with other dogs perfectly, cats too. She is not food or treat aggressive. She sleeps with my granddaughter but if she is off on a overnighter then I'm good enough to sleep with. She is house trained and house broken, hardly ever barks, walks great on a leash and is  a number one sun worshipper.  Poppy will let you sleep  In late before her morning potty break.  Her person/ family needs to understand that it would be best to remove her from the room when having company, not letting people especially small children around her in case she is in a diva mood. To the person she loves, she would perhaps lay down her life for you.. guaranteed she will sit, sleep and cuddle beside you forever. She prefers mid to soft foods after having her dental work done. She loves me when I make her her favorite meal of chicken breast and rice served in her green and white bowl. While Poppy comes with some baggage to the person/ people who understand she would make a good family member who is just asking for love and understanding. She was saved from the streets of Mexico, so no one knows her back story but you could be her happily ever after.   We’ve got some exciting news about this pup’s age! Thanks to DNA testing from Embark, we’ve got a fresh take on how old they really are. A big shoutout to Embark for generously donating these tests for us to explore! You might spot a difference between Embark's findings and our original guess—after all, no test or person is 100% accurate. It’s all part of the adventure! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, dental, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Mick is sweet chihuahua mix boy who is about 18 months old.  He gets along well with all little doggie friends, and is not a fan of the bigger dog which is rottie lab mix.  He is not much of a barker.   Uses pee pads and goes outside on schedule. Hates the cold weather but follows the other dogs when going outside.  He does wear a coat and allows you to put on.   Rides well in car in a kennel.  Not fond of kennel but you can pick him up and put him in - no problem and d oesn’t carry on while kenneled.  A BIG LAP BUDDIE!!!   He will sit and sleep in your lap all day!  Not in your face type dog either.  He is the Perfect guy for seniors or less active or non mobile individual. He is a little cautious when meeting new people but does warm up.     Do not know about children.  He is a quick learner but can be a little stubborn and is  doing ok on all the basic commands.    He is t reat motivated and not high energy!!    He has learned the house schedule and rules in 3 days!!    He d oes not know his name so a name change will not throw him off. I think if he was in an apartment with noisy neighbors or noisy hallways he would guard bark.  Very affectionate and loving dog!!!    Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Jingles, born roughly on 12/1/18, is the sweetest little tripod you will ever want to meet! He loves to snuggle and is friendly towards other dogs and cats, though he's a bit timid with dogs who are larger than he is (and face it, as a chihuahua, that's most of them!) but he still responds calmly to them. The only time he gets worked up is when he decides it's time to be fed! He's not very energetic- he likes to spend most of his time in his bed/kennel. He is crate-trained and will hold his bladder/bowels overnight. He understands what being put outside to go potty means, and cooperates, but he HATES cold weather- will manage his "business" and immediately return to the door and whine to be let back in. He would do well in a home with children old enough to know to be gentle. He would also do well in a home that does not require more than one or two stairs to get in and out- with only one front leg, you could change his name to "Slinky" and have a pretty accurate idea of what it looks like if he does try to go down a flight of stairs. A retired person/s living on a single level or an apartment that allows dogs would be excellent due to this consideration. Because of the lack of one front leg and his sedentary lifestyle preference, it's important to watch his weight, since any excess makes it harder for him to ambulate. He's not too pleased with this, but it is in his best interest, and he loves eating from your hand if you permit it.     Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus tax Meet Denny Denny LOVES to play with other dogs...and toys...and people once he knows them!   He can be a little cautious in new situations and sometimes forgets to be brave and acts protective of his owners. For this reason, small kids should not be in his new home.  Denny is full of energy and definitely needs a home that can meet his exercise needs...and cuddle time requirements!   He LOVES to cuddle and will keep your lap warm and would love to sleep in bed with you. He is housetrained. He is good with older kids, cats and dogs.  He doesn't mind his kennel- he runs right into his crate for meals and treats and sometimes hangs out in there too.   Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the button below. Thank You!         Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

I enjoy cuddles and sleeping by my humans, especially comfy when I burrow myself under blankets. I’m very good at taking baths. I love to play with my stuffed animals and toys. Bet I’ll make you laugh! I’m shy when I first meet you but warm up pretty quick. I’m crate and potty trained too, bonus! I do like slow introductions to other dogs as I can get nervous but with time I learn to get along. Looking forward to meeting you! Please put in your application on our website mattysheartandsoulanimalrescue.rescuegroups.org.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 12, 2025, 8:20 pm
