Snapshot of Shirley: Size? Small, ~13lbs Activity Level? Medium/High Noise Level? Medium Good with Dogs? Yes, after slow intros! Good with Cats? Unknown Good with Kids? Unknown, but likely yes! Good with Strangers? Mostly Potty Trained? I’m working on it! Crate Trained? Almost there! Shedding? Minimal About Shirley: Hi, my name is Shirley, though my foster family calls me Surely (You Must Be Joking)! I am around one year old and I think I am a mix of Chihuahua and Pug, possibly with some Boston Terrier. I am so very playful and I love being active. My foster household doesn't have a family dog, but I've spent a lot of time around other dogs living temporarily in the home and I get along with them pretty well, though I really do not like sharing food-related items. I've haven't met any young children yet, but for the most part I like all new people that I meet. I am a cuddly loving sweet girl who likes being pet, being in people's laps, giving kisses, and playing. I'm very engaging and interactive! I play tug (I have the best growl) and enjoy ripping apart stuffies and extracting the stuffing. I know not to chew on things that aren't mine. I also love love love love playing fetch! No one had to teach me; I just chase a regular-sized tennis ball (which I somehow manage to pick up with my little mouth) and bring back, put it down and stare at you intensely, begging you to throw it again. When I see people or other dogs walking past the house, I know that it's important to keep everyone informed of their presence by announcing it! In the house, I love to be close to my people and will keep you company by following you all over the house at all times. I can get very worried if I'm left alone in a room. I sometimes bark to alert you, if I hear noises I'm confused about, but not very often. After some exercise and playing, I am happy to curl up near you and go to sleep. I learned very quickly how to obey the "sit" command, and how to go into my kennel which is where I eat my meals, stay when people are out, and sleep at night. I'm working on potty training, though I sometimes forget to wait. My ideal forever home would be one where my favorite people are home a lot and have time to play with me. I think I'd do well as an only dog, or as a dog with siblings to play with. A yard would be great for me, but I would also do fine in a home without one, so long as there is some space for indoor fetch and I get a few walks every day. Shirley is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for her age. Story
Jack was rescued as a young dog and has lived with his mom Renee and her daughter for 12 years. Jack can be protective of his family and home and will do some barking. He is trained to stop barking with a clicker, but the training is a work-in-progress. Jack is intelligent and loves to snuggle and be petted. He also loves to play off-leash with other dogs. Jack does not like men and should not be in a home where men live. He hates riding in the car and should be in a kennel when being transported; he sometimes vomits in the car. He is also frightened of very loud sounds, like fireworks.

Story
CLEO | 7 years old | 10-pounds*Alright, STOP. Collaborate and listen…She cute but she is expensive.Cleo will need prescription food and medication for the remainder of her life. Still interested? Read on!—--Straight from her foster’s mouth to your ears.. erhmm.. eyes.. learn more about Cleo directly from the source! They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend.. And you better have a lot of them. To sell. To pay for her vet care.Haha! Just kidding! *looks around* Kind of..Cleo has a condition called protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) caused by irritable bowel disease. She loses proteins from her bloodstream into her GI tract faster than her body can replenish them and her medical management helps regulate this condition.Cleo’s daily life is unaffected by this and she does your everyday dog things. The only addition is giving her medication (pills) with her morning and evening meals which she takes without problem.Still interested? Then you’re ready to hear our secret..—--Cleo is a GEM. A truly one-of-a-kind companion. So without further ado, here’s what you need to know about Cleo!Extremely smart. Eats her own poop. In a glass-half-full kind of world, you could consider her a self-poop picker-upper. (But really, you are going to have to go out in those subzero temps and pick up her poop before she does.)In all seriousness, she is one of the best potty-trained dogs we have ever had. And she understands cues so quickly. She even knows sit, shake, high five, and can catch her food mid-air!Farts can clear a room. They just get stronger. Rootin’ Tootin’ Cleo should be in the Guinness Book of Records or something.Teeters on being the fun police. Still fun.Cleo coexists with dogs big and small but can sometimes be a playtime hall monitor. That said, if she finds the right dog with the right playstyle, she has a good time playing chase and wrestling!Loves tug o’ war. Hates fetch. If you throw her toy, she’s going to look at you like what are you even doing. On a scale of one to barky, she’s about a five. While Cleo doesn’t bark all day long, she is going to warn you about car doors slamming, people talking, the general goings on of the world. And her bark be loud so shared walls may not be the best fit for her. She stops with some guidance pretty quickly.. usually.. sometimes..Loves food. Hates sharing. Cleo’s favorite times of the day are, hands down, breakfast and dinner. And she’s got that only child syndrome (I can say that, I’m an only child) where everything is hers. Her food. Her toys. Your food. All hers. And she will tell anyone who needs to know.Cleo doesn’t currently live with cats but has in the past and takes it in stride. As long as she’s the center of attention, that’s all she really needs.Supposedly a Chihuahua/Pug mix. Definitely just as needy. Pug parents, am I right? Cleo will climb on your lap, push her way to your hands, and really doesn’t care if she’s stepping on another dog to get to the top. We mean that figuratively. Well.. except for those times when she’s literally walking over a dog to get to you.Likes to give kisses. Licks everything. Literally everything.. the couch, the floor, the carpet, the coffee table, your clothes, and your face.Cleo is great with kids of all ages but it’s probably best that she live in a home with teens or no kids on account of how much she loves food. Because she has PLE, Cleo needs to be on a restricted diet and can’t be catching scraps or snagging food from those little hands. Because she would. She totally would. This girl’s personality is a great balance of play and chill, and she walks so well on a leash.. when it’s actually warm out.. A lap dog through and through, Cleo wants to be snuggled in with you, often under a blanket (Chihuahua parents, you get it). She's content to snooze on the couch or a dog bed when you're gone and she can fit into any social situation.Cleo is one of the best dogs out there and whoever has the privilege of adopting her is going to know love (and toots) beyond measure!—--*Opening Line Credit: Vanilla Ice - “Ice Ice Baby”Cleo came to Pet Haven Rescue with a severe case of PLE. Her levels are back to normal with the help of food and medication management.More on protein-losing enteropathy (PLE): https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/proteinlosing-enteropathy-ple-in-dogs—--If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling: https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Story
Hi hoomans! My name is Tinsel and I’m looking for my furever home. I absolutely love cuddles, sleeping on your lap, and taking naps with my hooman! I’m learning how to go potty outside now and am doing pretty good! I’m pretty smart, so I should pick it up in no time. I love playing with my toys, playing fetch, and chewing on a good bully stick. I’m such a good boy with other dogs, little kids and even the resident cats. I’m just a little guy and probably won’t get real big. I sleep really good at night in my Xpen in my own room, when the lights go out I know it’s time to sleep. I will let me foster mom know in the morning when I want to get up and start my day, and lucky for her it’s not super early! I really want my forever family, could it be you? Tinsel is estimated to be 13 weeks old and 10 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting. Story
Esther is such a fun little senior. She still has spunk and it SO EXCITED when you get home whether you are gone for 5 minutes or 5 hours. She does great with the other dogs in the house and tries to get them to play with her. Her favorite thing is laying next to her foster parents on the couch and watching TV. She is currently sleeping in bed with her foster parents and I suspect that will want that in her new home or she will voice her displeasure. She is doing great on her potty training and is almost there. Essther is estimated to be 10 years old and 8 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. Story
Mason is a gentle, sweet & shy tiny pup. He loves his sister Meera so would love to have another dog in the home to hang out with and learn from but would do ok without one too. He loves following the gigantic resident dog around too! Mason loves all the people he meets but can be a little shy at first. He’s learning what it’s like to be handled, loved and cared for as his family came from a hoarding home down south. He’s enjoying warm cozy beds, loves all the toys he’s been able to play with (especially the fuzzy & squeaky ones) and all the space that him and his sister have enjoyed running around! Mason (& his sister) spends his day in an xpen while his foster family is at work/school and also sleeps in there as well. He’s so cute, you have to see him in person - don’t miss out on this cute little shortie!! Mason is estimated to be 7 weeks old and 6 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested.
