Story
Poppy will love you like no other. The line should perhaps read,  Poppy will love you but maybe no one else. One must truly understand the makeup of some Chi mixes, they sometimes pick their person and could care less about anyone else. Poppy will let other people know if she wants a pet from you or not quickly by showing her teeth and a bit of a growl. She has chosen my ten year old granddaughter as her person. I can pet and hold her most times except when she is laying down in her chair on the couch or her bed. She gets along with other dogs perfectly, cats too. She is not food or treat aggressive. She sleeps with my granddaughter but if she is off on a overnighter then I'm good enough to sleep with. She is house trained and house broken, hardly ever barks, walks great on a leash and is  a number one sun worshipper.  Poppy will let you sleep  In late before her morning potty break.  Her person/ family needs to understand that it would be best to remove her from the room when having company, not letting people especially small children around her in case she is in a diva mood. To the person she loves, she would perhaps lay down her life for you.. guaranteed she will sit, sleep and cuddle beside you forever. She prefers mid to soft foods after having her dental work done. She loves me when I make her her favorite meal of chicken breast and rice served in her green and white bowl. While Poppy comes with some baggage to the person/ people who understand she would make a good family member who is just asking for love and understanding. She was saved from the streets of Mexico, so no one knows her back story but you could be her happily ever after.   We’ve got some exciting news about this pup’s age! Thanks to DNA testing from Embark, we’ve got a fresh take on how old they really are. A big shoutout to Embark for generously donating these tests for us to explore! You might spot a difference between Embark's findings and our original guess—after all, no test or person is 100% accurate. It’s all part of the adventure! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, dental, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Mick is sweet chihuahua mix boy who is about 18 months old.  He gets along well with all little doggie friends, and is not a fan of the bigger dog which is rottie lab mix.  He is not much of a barker.   Uses pee pads and goes outside on schedule. Hates the cold weather but follows the other dogs when going outside.  He does wear a coat and allows you to put on.   Rides well in car in a kennel.  Not fond of kennel but you can pick him up and put him in - no problem and d oesn’t carry on while kenneled.  A BIG LAP BUDDIE!!!   He will sit and sleep in your lap all day!  Not in your face type dog either.  He is the Perfect guy for seniors or less active or non mobile individual. He is a little cautious when meeting new people but does warm up.     Do not know about children.  He is a quick learner but can be a little stubborn and is  doing ok on all the basic commands.    He is t reat motivated and not high energy!!    He has learned the house schedule and rules in 3 days!!    He d oes not know his name so a name change will not throw him off. I think if he was in an apartment with noisy neighbors or noisy hallways he would guard bark.  Very affectionate and loving dog!!!    Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Jingles, born roughly on 12/1/18, is the sweetest little tripod you will ever want to meet! He loves to snuggle and is friendly towards other dogs and cats, though he's a bit timid with dogs who are larger than he is (and face it, as a chihuahua, that's most of them!) but he still responds calmly to them. The only time he gets worked up is when he decides it's time to be fed! He's not very energetic- he likes to spend most of his time in his bed/kennel. He is crate-trained and will hold his bladder/bowels overnight. He understands what being put outside to go potty means, and cooperates, but he HATES cold weather- will manage his "business" and immediately return to the door and whine to be let back in. He would do well in a home with children old enough to know to be gentle. He would also do well in a home that does not require more than one or two stairs to get in and out- with only one front leg, you could change his name to "Slinky" and have a pretty accurate idea of what it looks like if he does try to go down a flight of stairs. A retired person/s living on a single level or an apartment that allows dogs would be excellent due to this consideration. Because of the lack of one front leg and his sedentary lifestyle preference, it's important to watch his weight, since any excess makes it harder for him to ambulate. He's not too pleased with this, but it is in his best interest, and he loves eating from your hand if you permit it.     Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus tax Meet Denny Denny LOVES to play with other dogs...and toys...and people once he knows them!   He can be a little cautious in new situations and sometimes forgets to be brave and acts protective of his owners. For this reason, small kids should not be in his new home.  Denny is full of energy and definitely needs a home that can meet his exercise needs...and cuddle time requirements!   He LOVES to cuddle and will keep your lap warm and would love to sleep in bed with you. He is housetrained. He is good with older kids, cats and dogs.  He doesn't mind his kennel- he runs right into his crate for meals and treats and sometimes hangs out in there too.   Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the button below. Thank You!         Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Story
CLEO | 7 years old | 10-pounds*Alright, STOP. Collaborate and listen…She cute but she is expensive.Cleo will need prescription food and medication for the remainder of her life. Still interested? Read on!—--Straight from her foster’s mouth to your ears.. erhmm.. eyes.. learn more about Cleo directly from the source! They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend.. And you better have a lot of them. To sell. To pay for her vet care.Haha! Just kidding! *looks around* Kind of..Cleo has a condition called protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) caused by irritable bowel disease. She loses proteins from her bloodstream into her GI tract faster than her body can replenish them and her medical management helps regulate this condition.Cleo’s daily life is unaffected by this and she does your everyday dog things. The only addition is giving her medication (pills) with her morning and evening meals which she takes without problem.Still interested? Then you’re ready to hear our secret..—--Cleo is a GEM. A truly one-of-a-kind companion. So without further ado, here’s what you need to know about Cleo!Extremely smart. Eats her own poop. In a glass-half-full kind of world, you could consider her a self-poop picker-upper. (But really, you are going to have to go out in those subzero temps and pick up her poop before she does.)In all seriousness, she is one of the best potty-trained dogs we have ever had. And she understands cues so quickly. She even knows sit, shake, high five, and can catch her food mid-air!Farts can clear a room. They just get stronger. Rootin’ Tootin’ Cleo should be in the Guinness Book of Records or something.Teeters on being the fun police. Still fun.Cleo coexists with dogs big and small but can sometimes be a playtime hall monitor. That said, if she finds the right dog with the right playstyle, she has a good time playing chase and wrestling!Loves tug o’ war. Hates fetch. If you throw her toy, she’s going to look at you like what are you even doing. On a scale of one to barky, she’s about a five. While Cleo doesn’t bark all day long, she is going to warn you about car doors slamming, people talking, the general goings on of the world. And her bark be loud so shared walls may not be the best fit for her. She stops with some guidance pretty quickly.. usually.. sometimes..Loves food. Hates sharing. Cleo’s favorite times of the day are, hands down, breakfast and dinner. And she’s got that only child syndrome (I can say that, I’m an only child) where everything is hers. Her food. Her toys. Your food. All hers. And she will tell anyone who needs to know.Cleo doesn’t currently live with cats but has in the past and takes it in stride. As long as she’s the center of attention, that’s all she really needs.Supposedly a Chihuahua/Pug mix. Definitely just as needy. Pug parents, am I right? Cleo will climb on your lap, push her way to your hands, and really doesn’t care if she’s stepping on another dog to get to the top. We mean that figuratively. Well.. except for those times when she’s literally walking over a dog to get to you.Likes to give kisses. Licks everything. Literally everything.. the couch, the floor, the carpet, the coffee table, your clothes, and your face.Cleo is great with kids of all ages but it’s probably best that she live in a home with teens or no kids on account of how much she loves food. Because she has PLE, Cleo needs to be on a restricted diet and can’t be catching scraps or snagging food from those little hands. Because she would. She totally would. This girl’s personality is a great balance of play and chill, and she walks so well on a leash.. when it’s actually warm out.. A lap dog through and through, Cleo wants to be snuggled in with you, often under a blanket (Chihuahua parents, you get it). She's content to snooze on the couch or a dog bed when you're gone and she can fit into any social situation.Cleo is one of the best dogs out there and whoever has the privilege of adopting her is going to know love (and toots) beyond measure!—--*Opening Line Credit: Vanilla Ice - “Ice Ice Baby”Cleo came to Pet Haven Rescue with a severe case of PLE. Her levels are back to normal with the help of food and medication management.More on protein-losing enteropathy (PLE): https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/proteinlosing-enteropathy-ple-in-dogs—--If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling: https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. Story
Oliver is a 1-year-old Shih Tzu, Jack Russell, and Chihuahua mix with a short copper coat. Weighing just 14 pounds, he's small in size but big on loyalty and affection for his chosen person. Once he follows you around with that adorable little underbite, you're sure to fall for this little lovebug!Oliver has come from a difficult past, so he is learning new things every day. When it comes to making new friends, he is still very shy around new people, especially women. He needs a patient, understanding home where he can build trust at his own pace. Ideally, his adopter would be a single male or a male couple, as it seems that Oliver is much more comfortable with men. Oliver will not be able to live with small children right now because of his anxiety. He has previously lived with other dogs and cats, though a proper introduction will be key in the future.Oliver is a sweet, playful pup who loves to run around and follow his foster dad playing with toys, sometimes rolling onto his back in the middle of play. He will not need much exercise to stay busy, just a short walk or playtime each day. While he is still working on house training, his foster family recommends using a belly band to keep him learning. He currently spends his nights in a kennel, though he may bark for a little while before settling. His foster family keeps him on a good routine, and he will continue to grow if given a little love. In the meantime, Oliver is not a good fit for homes with shared walls (no apartments/townhomes) due to barking. With patience and care, Oliver is sure to thrive and become a loyal pup! If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450.
