Story
Poppy will love you like no other. The line should perhaps read,  Poppy will love you but maybe no one else. One must truly understand the makeup of some Chi mixes, they sometimes pick their person and could care less about anyone else. Poppy will let other people know if she wants a pet from you or not quickly by showing her teeth and a bit of a growl. She has chosen my ten year old granddaughter as her person. I can pet and hold her most times except when she is laying down in her chair on the couch or her bed. She gets along with other dogs perfectly, cats too. She is not food or treat aggressive. She sleeps with my granddaughter but if she is off on a overnighter then I'm good enough to sleep with. She is house trained and house broken, hardly ever barks, walks great on a leash and is  a number one sun worshipper.  Poppy will let you sleep  In late before her morning potty break.  Her person/ family needs to understand that it would be best to remove her from the room when having company, not letting people especially small children around her in case she is in a diva mood. To the person she loves, she would perhaps lay down her life for you.. guaranteed she will sit, sleep and cuddle beside you forever. She prefers mid to soft foods after having her dental work done. She loves me when I make her her favorite meal of chicken breast and rice served in her green and white bowl. While Poppy comes with some baggage to the person/ people who understand she would make a good family member who is just asking for love and understanding. She was saved from the streets of Mexico, so no one knows her back story but you could be her happily ever after.   We’ve got some exciting news about this pup’s age! Thanks to DNA testing from Embark, we’ve got a fresh take on how old they really are. A big shoutout to Embark for generously donating these tests for us to explore! You might spot a difference between Embark's findings and our original guess—after all, no test or person is 100% accurate. It’s all part of the adventure! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, dental, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Meet Charlie, a spunky 6-pound Chihuahua mix born in approximately April 2022, with a heart full of love and a bit of playful mischief! He's almost potty trained but might need a few extra trips outside to help him along. Charlie is a superstar in his kennel, walks well on a leash, and gets along great with cats. He’s also an excellent car buddy, as long as he can cozy up on your lap for the ride!    This little guy has a ton of energy and is a certified super chewer—toys beware! But after a busy playtime, he’ll happily settle down for an afternoon nap. He’s a big fan of older kids (he did wonderfully with our 9-year-old granddaughter) but can be a bit shy around younger ones. His  previous owner was a single woman, so he feels most comfortable around women and tends to be unsure of men. If you’re looking for a loyal, sweet, and lively companion, Charlie could be the perfect match. He's seriously a really good boy and would love to find his forever home with the right family who understands his quirks and energy.  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, dental, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus tax Are you the special person Tuffy needs in his life? Introducing Tuffy! He is an exceptionally special boy who thrives in the company of other dogs and enjoys being part of a pack. Initially, he may be a bit hesitant around humans, but once he trusts you, he will shower you with love and affection. Tuffy is not only handsome but also has a delightful sense of humor! He communicates his needs (especially when it comes to food) and will happily engage in a full conversation if you respond to him.    Tuffy is full of joy when playing, whether with you or other dogs. He gets excited and zooms around the house, returning for more playtime. In the summer, he eagerly waits by the door for walks, brimming with excitement. Tuffy is incredibly intelligent, which can sometimes lead to a touch of stubbornness; however, he learns new habits quickly. He has mastered the 'sit' command and is currently training on the “touch” command, which he picked up rapidly but still requires some reinforcement when feeling nervous.   Once Tuffy feels comfortable with you, he loves to snuggle on your lap, give gentle kisses, and curl up under the covers in bed (if permitted). He is very respectful and waits for an invitation before joining you on your lap or bed.   Tuffy does have a voice; he barks when someone approaches the door or when new people enter the house (Best Home Security Ever!). We are working on redirecting his attention to help him feel more at ease with newcomers. Interestingly, he tends to bark only at individuals who intimidate him, rather than those who respect his space. When he's ready to connect, Tuffy approaches you quickly and with enthusiasm. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Little about me: I came to Minnesota from Texas end of June and so far loving every minute of it! I have 4 foster siblings and a small human who loves to play with me. I enjoy cuddles and sleeping by my humans, especially comfy when I burrow myself under blankets. I’m very good at taking baths. I love to play with my stuffed animals and toys. Bet I’ll make you laugh! I’m shy when I first meet you but warm up pretty quick. I’m crate and potty trained too, bonus! Story
Bool needs a new home with someone who's ready to care for a troubled but devoted dog. Do you have experience working with dogs with trauma? Can you handle learning some resource guarding and separation anxiety quirks? He is willing to bite if he's feeling threatened, so it's a responsibility, but he's also incredibly loving. With his quirks, it can take practice to build trust. Once you do, he's a lap dog, sweet and playful. He'll likely bond mainly with 1 to 2 people, but quickly befriends dogs and folks he meets on walks. Wouldn't trust with young kids. May be able to warm up to a cat, but still fearful. Mid energy, loves to chase critters but slows quickly from pain in his knees. Yard would be great for him. Gets along with most dogs, but best to walk together first and may need to feed separately. Trains quickly as he's very food motivated (verbal and hand signs). Housebroken and crate trained. Been progressing and muzzle training. Guessing 7 years old. Rescued at about 4.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Buzz is a spirited 4-year-old chihuahua terrier mix with a heart full of love and a past that has shaped his unique personality. Having overcome a rough start in life, Buzz can be a little shy when meeting new people. He’ll greet you with a wagging tail, but sometimes that excitement can turn into a low growl as he navigates his insecurities. The best approach? Just ignore the growl, keep chatting, and let him warm up to you in his own time. This clever little guy is as smart as they come, though he can be quite stubborn too! Buzz has a playful spirit and adores his toys and the company of other small dogs. He’s a pro on the leash and is comfortable in his crate, making him a great companion for walks and downtime alike. Buzz is currently working on his potty training and is highly motivated by food—making him a quick learner with the right encouragement. He’s looking for a patient and understanding forever home where he can thrive and feel secure. If you’re ready to give this quirky guy a chance, Buzz is sure to fill your days with joy and love!   *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Hi I’m Dirk!  I’m a handsome scruffy guy who is looking for a family of my very own.  I came here from a shelter in Arkansas where I found myself when my owner passed away.  I wasn’t there too long before I came to MN where I found myself in a foster home.  It took me a bit to open up to my new foster.  I was sad and confused since I had lost my home and owner.  I was lucky though that I got to come here with my sister.  I don’t need to be adopted with her, but if you have room in your heart I’d certainly love to be adopted with her.  When we meet I’m shy with new people and need a bit to warm up.  Once I trust you though then I’m a happy guy who loves neck scratches!  I lean into them and rub against your hand like a cat with the biggest smile while I dance in excitement.  I don’t care much about toys.  I do like to run with my doggie friends outside, but I don’t like when they get to wild.  That’s when I bark at them and tell them they need to chill out.  When I’m not out with my friends I can be found chilling out at my mom’s feet or sitting in her lap getting all the good pets.  I think I’d prefer a home that’s a bit more quiet with no little kids.  I just don’t enjoy being overwhelmed by their antics.  I’d love a fenced yard where I can sit and sunbathe, but if you don’t have one that’s ok too.  I’m not very into food and treats, but maybe my foster mama just hasn’t found the right ones yet.  I should also probably tell you that my back legs are pretty bowlegged.  The nice doctor said I was just born that way and that since they don’t bother me or give me any pain that they are ok.  Mama says I’m perfect and I couldn’t agree more! Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. Visit this link  www.underdogrescuemn.com/donate   to donate.  (Please note: A Paypal account is not necessary to use Paypal. When you get to the Paypal page, just use the link to the left of their login to make your donation via Paypal without an account.) November 17, 2024, 4:06 pm
