Story
Sparky is an older guy who just wants a good, warm lap to curl up on. He loves to lean in for pats and will readily jump onto your lap when he wants to settle in. He can be a bit head-shy with leashes and collars, but once he's leashed he's happy to walk! A quiet home where he can decompress and roam as he pleases would be ideal. OTHER PETS: Sparky seems to enjoy the company of other dogs. He will initiate play but his lack of social skills means he doesn't take feedback very well. [Likely (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Sparky can be a little nervous at times, but once he comes around he'll follow right behind you! Someone who has experience with head-shy dogs or someone who is dedicated to supporting Sparky as he adjusts would be an ideal fit. [First Dog]KIDS: Sparky is uncomfortable with some types of handling and can be nervous meeting new people. He would do best with kids who can respect his space and allow him to approach when he's ready. [12+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Sparky would be a great companion dog! He's the perfect mix of couch potato and walking buddy-- he'll have his lazy moments where he will lay in your lap and watch tv, but he will also have moments where he gets really excited to go outside and run around. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: As an older dog, Sparky will need a good relationship with a vet to ensure he continues to age gracefully. At the moment he is on medication for Hypothyroidism, and will likely continue this treatment for the forseeable future. He has also tested positive for lyme disease, and may require rounds of antibiotics during flare-ups. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: [Minimal]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to decrease shedding in the home. [Minimal]January 27, 2025, 2:02 pm

Story
Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and *will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly*. However, once they trust a person, the often become very bonded.*** `MAY NEED TO VISIT MORE THAN ONCE FOR DOG TO FEEL COMFORTABLE` ***OTHER PETS: Yara was calm while meeting other dogs, but didn't show much interest after her initial greeting. Because she's so timid, she would likely do best with a calm dog that would be able to respect her boundaries. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Yara needs someone that can be dedicated to providing her with the patience and support she needs while adjusting to both her new home and the world around her. She would do best with someone who has experience with fearful dogs. [Some Experience]KIDS: Yara was extrememly nervous when she first came to TJO, and is still wary of handling. To avoid any unnecessary stress or conflict, Yara would do better in a quiet home with adults only, to ensure that her boundaries are respected and she can adjust to a fairly predictable routine. [Adults Only] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Yara does enjoy playing with toys, but she's just as happy to curl up on your lap once she's comfortable! As long as she's provided with the time and space she needs to adjust, she'll be your best friend in no time. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Yara is wary of new people and surroundings, and will need time to warm up to anyone new she might meet. As long as she is allowed to approach and greet on her own terms, she'll gradually learn what to expect and will likely become more comfortable. Positive reinforcement training will help Yara not only learn her basic cues, but also help her to feel more comfortable and confident in herself! It will provide a good opportunity for her to bond with her new owner as well. [Minimal] GROOMING: Because of Yara's fur type & texture, she will need to be brushed routinely to ensure that she doesn't develop any knots or matts. [Routine Brushing]January 27, 2025, 2:02 pm

Story
Anndalina 11 YEARS OLD. Chi mix. black with white, no kids, no cats, okay with some dogs, basics of potty training. Needs fenced in yard and no apartments. Anndalina came to us as an emergency surrender. This poor girl was trying to chew her tail off and needed emergency treatment. We rushed her into our vet and it was determined her tail would need to be amputated to prevent any infection from spreading. We whisked her into surgery and brought her back to one of our foster homes. Anndalina has had a rough beginning to her life and she will need a patient and understanding home to help her become the dog we know she can be. We would recommend she go to a child free home and a home where her Chihuahua bark will not be a problem. A nice quiet couple or single person would be the ideal place for her as she can become overwhelmed with too many visitors. Once she bonds to her people she is very affectionate but it will take a while for this nervous girl to settle into any new home and she will need to be given time to calm and adjust. Please note we do not have a central kennel facility, all of our pets are located in foster homes. The first step in meeting one of our furry friends is to fill out an application on our website at www.rainbowrescues.org. A volunteer will be in contact with you in 1-2 business days to review your application and speak with you about the adoption process. **Please be aware that we are not responsible for inaccurate information on some cross-posted sites such as inaccurate adoption fees and inaccurate pet info.**January 3, 2025, 5:36 am
