Story
Rufus is a sweet, quirky, cuddly dog — but he needs to be an “only-dog.” He lived with my mom and sister, who both unfortunately died recently. Rufus will be 10 years old in March 2025, but he is quite energetic and weighs 14 pounds. He has a highly treatable heart condition. He is crate-trained but is not 100% housebroken, so frequent walks with a couple of pee pads placed around the house are advisable.. He is loving and comical. He can shake on command. He loves taking walks and getting treats. He’s a climber, so all food must be placed well out of his reach. It breaks my heart to part with him, but I know that he will make a happy forever home with another family as an only-dog. 🥹

Story
Hi! I'm Pixie. As you can see, Im a real cutie! Im a friendly and easy-going pup who gets along well with other dogs and is doing great with house training. Im also a big fan of my crateit's my cozy spot to relax and unwind. I do well in the car and am happy to go for a ride when its time to head out. And if youve got a lap, Ive definitely never met one I didnt likeI love snuggling up with my humans! Im not much of a barker, and I prefer to quietly enjoy the company of my family. If you're looking for a sweet and affectionate companion, I could be the one for you! The nice folks at RDR will update my profile when they learn more about me. I cannot wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give. Pixie tested positive for heartworm and will need to undergo treatment once they arrive in the DMV, either while in foster or once they are with their adopter. RDR will cover the cost of the heartworm treatment through our vet partner. If the adopter would prefer to complete treatment at their vet, RDR will reimburse up to the treatment cost through our vet partner. During treatment, they need restricted exercise to short leashed walks only, and they need a fairly quiet home where they arent going to be overstimulated too much. Once the treatment is complete and they get the all clear from the vet, they will be able to live a totally normal/unrestricted life like any other dog. Dogs should be retested 9-12 months after treatment is completed and every year afterwards as part of their annual exam. For more information on heartworms click here: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics Please visit our website www.ruraldogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing dog and to see other dogs available for adoption!

Story
Meet Parker!  This precious little guy is 4 years old and about 12 lbs.  Evidently Parker did not have a very good life prior to joining Critter Cavalry.  We think he was bullied by another dog.  He is a 'sit on the sidelines and watch' kinda guy who doesn't really want to play with anyone.  He doesn't mind the other dogs and definitely is not mean.  He would just rather be with people.  Parker is super sweet and loves people.  He just wants to be where his foster mom is.  Parker would be a wonderful companion for someone that just wants one dog and who would like a dog they can take places.  He would love that and would love to be friends with all your friends.  He is just precious and very friendly.  He gentlY smells you to make sure you are OK and then he is good.  He was smiling during his photo shoot and seemed to enjoy all the attention.  If you are looking for a loyal companion then you have found him in Parker.  Parker is doggie door trained, neutered, current on all shots, heartworm negative and microchipped.  To be considered for Parker's forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Parker is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)November 5, 2024, 1:27 pm

Story
Meet Curious Puppy Coco.  This beautiful brindle boy is only 17 weeks old and 7 lbs.  Just look at that face.  It definitely tells you that this curious little guy will be in the middle of everything.  This little boy is all legs.  You just want to smile when you look at him.  He is at that awkward stage in life with legs and feet going every where.  Coco is a very sweet boy.  He is super friendly and does not meet a stranger.  He happily goes up to everyone to be petted.  Coco loves other dogs and has a big time playing with his foster brothers.  He is a bit of a pest to the older dogs though as he always wants to play.  Coco would love to have another young brother or sister to play with.  He definitely needs a companion to keep him busy.  When Coco does settle down he is a great little cuddle boy and will curl up in your lap or beside you to go to sleep.  This little guy is doggie door and crate trained.  He walks OK on a leash but does need some additional training.  He is very smart though and catches on quickly.  He will be an excellent addition to the right family.  Coco is neutered, current on all shots and microchipped.  To be considered for his forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Coco is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)November 18, 2024, 11:35 am

She is looking for a loving, quiet, and nurturing home to live out their twilight years. She is apprehensive at first and when frightened she may nip as a defensive mechanism due to her very limited sight (bilateral cataracts) and limited hearing, but once acclimated to her new surroundings and trusts you she is 100% loving lap dog. She will approach for attention and is very affectionate after an initial "breaking in" period. She will need an all adult household, no steps unless gated so she doesn't fall down them. Believe it or not, Penny does walk on leash okay, but is low energy and would be totally fine with quick access to a fenced backyard or a pee pad so she doesn't have to go out in the cold big world where she can't see danger lurking.  She is well trained to the pee pads. She sleeps in a dog bed near her people, and her favorite is to be abe to get under a nice soft blanket to keep her warm. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. She is an adorable, cheerful and energetic little girl with lots of love to share! She gets the zoomies daily in her current foster home, zipping around the backyard or house at top speed. For this reason, she should have space to run, either inside or out. Toys or other dogs can direct her joyful puppy energy and she loves tug-of-war. Her tail double-curls when she’s extra happy! She’s very attuned to her surroundings and alerts when someone approaches the house. She is fully housetrained and has been fine with cats in her foster home. Her small size makes her easy to pick up, and she’s a super snuggler on the couch. She's also great in the car, happily jumping in and watching out the windows.  An apartment home might not be best because she sometimes barks when left alone, though this could probably be managed with a bit of training.  i  A house with a fenced yard and, if possible, another playful dog in the family would be perfect for her.  Cassie is super attentive and quickly learned to sit in her special spot outside the kitchen during meal prep. She has also learned ‘sit’, ‘quiet’, ‘stay’, and ‘spin’, and to sit and wait before going in and out the kitchen door. What a sweet face she gives as she tries so hard to follow directions and make you happy! She’s completely housebroken and is good about not doing her business on pavement or sidewalks. She loves a sniffy walk and will zig-zag through the leaves and grass like it's a true adventure. She does get excited easily and will bark if people move too quickly, such as runners going by.Cassie would welcome having another dog in her new home, but it’s not necessary. She has lived with a 40 pound Beagle mix who she joyfully raced and wrestled with on a regular basis. She is ok with cats, but she likes to give chase if they run. Cassie deserves a loving forever home where she will be treated like family. Could it be yours? Fill out an application today and meet this sweet girl in person!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. Story
❗Current Location: in a foster home in South Korea❗ Meet Sunny with a story of miracles👋 Sunny was found on a street in South Korea at one year old in 2018 and taken to a high-risk shelter, but she was already in serious condition presumably caused by a car accident. Her pelvis was fractured, and her right hind leg bone was broken into pieces. She was saved from euthanasia by the rescue team and hospitalized for months (Jun-Sep 2018) due to the surgery and recovery. She was miraculously given a new life thanks to the rescue. That same year, after a few months of foster period, Sunny found a forever home, which was another miracle we thought of back then. Five years later, however, the rescue team got an unknown phone call requesting to change Sunny's ownership. Long story short, her family decided to give up on her after years, sent her to a pet shop, and paid them, all this without discussing it with the rescue team. This pet shop basically receives pets from owners and in turn, sells them out, and to do so with Sunny, they needed to have Sunny's ownership switched from the rescue team to the pet shop so they contacted the rescue team, and that’s how the rescue team learned Sunny's situation. Eventually, Sunny was able to safely return to her original rescue team, which is another miracle in her story. Despite all these setbacks, Sunny's sweet nature and zest for life shine bright. She needs one true chance to find her real forever family that loves her unconditionally. Recently, she has been moved to her foster home with two other dogs. Sunny is eagerly waiting for her own home now! • Personality: Sweet, Playful, Sociable Sunny thrives on love and affection and gets along with all people and furry friends, making her the perfect companion for anyone seeking a lovely and affectionate fur buddy. She is such a cuddle bug! She likes snuggly cushions and blankets. • Affinity with - Dogs: Gets along well with other dogs regardless of the size - Cats: Okay with street cats. She sometimes tries to chase kittens, but she stops when told. - Adults/Kids: Good with adults, especially elders including men / Okay with kids - not much interest in them. 💫She will be a perfect fit for most types of families! • Housetrained: fully housebroken, okay with both pee-pads and outdoors. • Walking Manners: very good • Separation Anxiety: None • Bathing/Brushing: very good • Barks/Howls: she barks when excited or when she wants something. • Shedding level (1~10): 5-6 • Car Rides: very good • Appetite/Food Allergies: No allergies • Health Issues: Due to the serious injuries that she got from an accident right before rescue, her pelvis is not perfectly placed (incomplete union of iliac) even after she had surgery immediately after being rescued. However, currently, she doesn’t show signs of pain when walking or running. If you have an open heart and a loving home for Sunny, please don't hesitate to apply!
