Story
Hi! I'm Pixie. I'm a sweet chihuahua and I get along great with dogs and other people. The nice folks at RDR will update my profile when they learn more about me. I cannot wait to find a forever home where I can share all the love I've got to give. Pixie tested positive for heartworm and will need to undergo treatment once they arrive in the DMV, either while in foster or once they are with their adopter. RDR will cover the cost of the heartworm treatment through our vet partner. If the adopter would prefer to complete treatment at their vet, RDR will reimburse up to the treatment cost through our vet partner. During treatment, they need restricted exercise to short leashed walks only, and they need a fairly quiet home where they arent going to be overstimulated too much. Once the treatment is complete and they get the all clear from the vet, they will be able to live a totally normal/unrestricted life like any other dog. Dogs should be retested 9-12 months after treatment is completed and every year afterwards as part of their annual exam. For more information on heartworms click here: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics Please visit our website www.ruraldogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing dog and to see other dogs available for adoption!

Story
Meet Curious Puppy Coco.  This beautiful brindle boy is only 17 weeks old and 7 lbs.  Just look at that face.  It definitely tells you that this curious little guy will be in the middle of everything.  This little boy is all legs.  You just want to smile when you look at him.  He is at that awkward stage in life with legs and feet going every where.  Coco is a very sweet boy.  He is super friendly and does not meet a stranger.  He happily goes up to everyone to be petted.  Coco loves other dogs and has a big time playing with his foster brothers.  He is a bit of a pest to the older dogs though as he always wants to play.  Coco would love to have another young brother or sister to play with.  He definitely needs a companion to keep him busy.  When Coco does settle down he is a great little cuddle boy and will curl up in your lap or beside you to go to sleep.  This little guy is doggie door and crate trained.  He walks OK on a leash but does need some additional training.  He is very smart though and catches on quickly.  He will be an excellent addition to the right family.  Coco is neutered, current on all shots and microchipped.  To be considered for his forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Coco is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)November 18, 2024, 11:35 am

We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. We would be cautious placing Coco in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.   Chloe is Looking For:  Her forever home! This little sweetie is looking for her own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures they can dream up - gotta burn all that awesome young-dog energy! And oh yeah, dog school to show how super smart she isBut you know what she wants most of all? To be safe and loved and under her own roof.    She has so much to offer in exchange. Love, adoring gazes, and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is she the one you see by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. KAYKAY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!  Name:    Kaykay        Best Guess for Breed:    Chihuahua and Terrier mix  Best Guess for Age:    7 years       Gender:    Female Approximate Weight:    12 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen Kaykay with cats or kids, but she can be tested! We would be cautious placing Kaykay in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living At: DC area foster home. Special Adoption Considerations: Kaykay is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Kaykay is Looking For:  Meet Kaykay, a delightful 7-year-old Chihuahua mix with a charming tricolor coat of white, black, and tan. Weighing in at just 10 lbs, she may be small, but her personality is larger than life. Kaykay is the perfect blend of spunk and sweetness, always ready to brighten your day with her playful antics and affectionate cuddles. She did a great job raising her puppy Benji to be a wonderful family pet - he went off to get his forever home and now she's ready to lavish that love upon her new humans! Whether she’s basking in a sunny spot or exploring her surroundings with curiosity, Kaykay brings joy wherever she goes. Her loving nature and expressive eyes make her the ultimate companion, always eager to be by your side. With Kaykay around, life is a little more colorful and a lot more fun!  What My Foster Says About Me: Coming Soon!  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.tiny sweetie seeking happily ever after! LIL PAPI NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:    Lil Papi        Best Guess for Breed:    Chihuahua mix   Best Guess for Age:  6 months as of November 2024         SEX:  Male   Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):   3.4 lbs as of 11/7/24  Gets Along With:  Other dogs as long as they don't accidentally step or sit on him! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested if you have them. We would be cautious placing Lil Papi in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living at:    DC area foster home.   Special Adoption Considerations:     Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy. Lil Papi is tiny and likely has a bladder the size of a peanut, so he definitely will need potty breaks during the day! Lil Papi is Looking For:  A family he can depend on! This tiny little guy was left behind when his owner was caught shoplifting and fled the scene. Can you offer him a home where he can feel safe and secure?   One thing he wants to be really clear about: He's a puppy! He hasn't seen nearly enough of the world! He would love to do that... on his own four paws, please. 'Purse dog' is not his life goal. He's seeking humans who understand that tiny as he is, he wants to be treated with dignity and respect. This means he gets walkies, goes to obedience school to learn to be the bestest boy, and of course gets warm laps on demand.    In exchange, you get an outsized love that is way out of proportion to his physical size, adoring gazes, and a loyal companion. What do you say? Is Lil Papi the one for your lap and your life? What My Foster Says About Me:Lil Papi is very tiny and cute. He can be apprehensive when first meeting new dogs but warms up once he feels secure around them. He did very well meeting people of all ages at his first adoption event. Not so crazy about walking on leash but we're working on it. Lil Papi wants everyone to know that at mealtime, he's a wet food kind of dog. Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!  TO ADOPT:       The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.    If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
