NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 1/9/2026:  Roseanne - female - 10 years old - 13.01 (fluffy) pounds - Chihuahua Reason for intake:  Roseanne came to us when, sadly, her owner passed away Christmas Eve.  She's the SWEETEST little girl.  She's already spayed, but she does have a hernia and needs a dental and other things, so she's heading to our vet the week of January 12.  The family sent a letter with a lot of details about this little girl and we'll put all of that in her adoption profile.  Stay tuned! Temperament:  very sweet, quiet, adorable… what’s not to love? Energy level:  low Groom needs:  low Biography:  In 2023, Rocco Man was wandering around a neighborhood in Blanchard for several days (it’s a wonder he didn’t get snagged by something). Neighbors did not recognize him as living nearby. One of the neighbors reached out to us for help and we took him in. Animal control was notified and we networked him trying to find an owner. He was not microchipped and was in horrible shape. Clearly he was not cared for. He was heartworm positive (now negative) and missing most of his hair (we put him on Bravecto as vet suspected demodex despite not finding any mites) and quickly, his coat started growing out.  We got him in tip-top shape and he was then adopted by one of our former board members. Sadly, she had back surgery and other ailments and just couldn't care for him any longer.  She was heartbroken to give him up but she knew it was the right thing to do.  Rocco Man is so precious.  He does well in a kennel if needed but doesn’t really know much about a leash.  (Potatoes should be carried anyway.)  Rocco Man says “My pecker may hang low and I look like a potato… but you definitely need ME to complete YOU… “.   **WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule.   *Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing and the dog is over 15 pounds.  There is no exception to this rule!   *PREDATORS:    IF THIS DOG IS UNDER 10 POUNDS, the dog is to be monitored and protected when outside at all times!  PREDATOR-THREAT IS A REAL DANGER!  For example, a hawk tried to pick up a Chihuahua owned by a friend visiting Ninna’s house… RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE VISITOR.  Thankfully the visitor was watching the dog and the hawk was wrestled off of the Chihuahua but it did require an ER visit and she is was very lucky to survive.   TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!     *NO SMALL CHILDREN!!  As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended.   Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children.  KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL!  Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.    *HOUSETRAINING:  We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained.   While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night.  Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home.  Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.    *KENNELING:  We always recommend kenneling when you cannot supervise your dog.  This helps with housetraining and any destructive tendencies until you get to know your knew addition.   *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome.  Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate.   *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.   Other notes:  This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La.  We are 501c3 non-profit organization.  Our mission is to rescue primarily small-breed dogs and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes.    DOG APPLICATION LINK:   http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal.  We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application.  The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered.  We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! Vetting and other:  altered (neutered), skin scrape (diagnosed Demodex mange – read Demodex mange paragraph below), tapeworms observed (treated), Cytopoint injection given to help him with initial itching, Bravecto given for the Demodex (next due 2/26/2026), 2 puppy teeth extracted, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, fecal negative, on monthly heartworm prevention, microchipped Health issues:  Demodex mange (read below) Demodex mange (commonly known as red mange) is a non-contagious mange wherein the mite lives within the hair follicle of the host.  Dogs get this type of mange from their mother.  If left untreated, it will cause hair loss, severe itching and scratching which then leads to inflammation of the skin, secondary infections and a compromised immune system.  Ultimately, it can lead to death especially since the lowered immune system can lead to other potential health risks.  Stress such as change in environment, a new pet, a new household member, a surgery, etc., could (but not necessarily) cause the mite to come out of dormancy.  Signs that the mite has come out of dormancy would be hair loss, especially around the eyes or paws.  Some people believe that you can treat demodex mange with motor oil (not true).  Up until recently, demodex mange was treated with Ivermectin and some vets may still use this method.  However, new developments have come about with an even better and more effective way to manage demodex mange.  Bravecto, a three-month flea preventive, is how this pet was treated.  Keeping your pet on Bravecto or any preventive that contains milbemycin oxime will keep the mite at bay.   Please don’t let demodex mange discourage you from considering this sweetheart for adoption.  Do your research and contact your veterinarian if you have further questions about adopting a pet with demodex mange.   Temperament:  Sweet, social, friendly, playful… all puppy! He is super sweet and gets along with other dogs and cats. Hès housebroken and a love bug lap baby! He is looking for his furever home and would do best in a calm household with maybe some senior parents :)    Killer was adopted last year (5/24/25) by a lovely senior couple who loved him and gave him the best home, but his mom passed away recently, and his dad is going into the nursing home after breaking his hip so sadly Killer had to come back to us to find a new permanent home. He is the sweetest boy and loves to cuddle. He would do better being the only dog as he wants all the attention and doesn't like to share it. They are sweet and playful and love toys now!
