Story
Fiona's foster family says........Good with dogs Cats: unknown Children: unknown Little Fiona is approx 8-10 years old and is possibly a King Charles Spaniel, Shih Tzu, long haired chihuahua or some other small breed mix. A DNA test would be needed to determine her breed, but whatever she is, she is simply adorable. Fiona was found as a stray and turned into a local city Shelter. The Shelter reached out to rescues as Fiona was very thin and diagnosed with canine diabetes. At first Fiona was quiet, but as she gained weight and her diabetes became better regulated she has turned out to be quite an engaging, loving little dog. She loves to give kisses and be held in your lap (especially when you are eating... but no junk food for this little girl allowed). She is housetrained and knows how to use a dog door. She is also good with large and small dogs of all ages. At bedtime, she cuddles in our bed and sleeps easily all night! Fiona requires insulin twice a day on a fairly regular schedule, so she will need a home where breakfast and supper times are generally the same time every day. We recommend her home continue glucose testing daily just as you would a human. Her insulin cost is about $35/month plus the cost of syringes and diabetic testing supplies. Fiona needs a specific kibble that is low in carbohydrates. She is on a commercial food that is about $50 for a large back that will last several months. She needs limited snacks - selected vegetables and protein only type snacks. Fiona also has a non-functioning right eye, her left eye is cloudy, but she seems to see quite well despite the cloudiness/cataract. She may have some hearing issues, but we have not noticed that the eyesight or hearing has been an issue in her foster home.

Story
Meet Tintin! A 1 year old, 39 pound, poodle mix. Tintin is a great dog with a wonderful personality. Tintin is well socialized, able to make friends with other dogs and a love for all people. Tintin loves to throw himself into any lap he can to have his ears scratched or his coat brushed. Food and toy motivated, Tintin responds well and is always ready for a walk or run. An important thing to know when adopting a poodle is the coat management, if you`re considering adopting a poodle, be aware that they need to be groomed every 4-6 weeks, or else Tintin might start to look a little bushy. Tintin is a wonderful, warm dog that loves to cuddle and would be a great fit to a family. Walk-ins are available from Tuesday to Friday from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Saturday and Sundays have walk-in hours from noon to 4 PM. The best way to get in touch with us is by email: info@secondchancespca.org. Due to the volume of calls, only the most urgent calls will be returned.
