You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Mileage requirements may be lifted for Cavalier or DCM experienced homes. Lizzie came from a past life of breeding. Thankfully, she is a love bug and is not timid like most are. At Lizzie's vet intake appointment, the vet heard a heart murmur. Because of this, we got her seen with the cardiology team at U of I. She was diagnosed with Nutritional Secondary Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). DCM is not common for the cavalier breed. Her valves look good & there is trivial evidence of tricuspid regurgitation. The concern is with some enlargement, we have started her on a high-quality diet that could slow/reverse this condition. Lizzie will need to be seen by a licensed cardiologist in November for a recheck echocardiogram and follow the cardologist recommendation going forward for rechecks. She has also started Pimobendan which she may or may not need to remain on this medication long term. Your local vet is not the same as a cardiologist and they cannot perform these tests. If you don't already have a cardiologist, do the research to see where the closest one is to you and ensure you can make the drive should they be far away. You will be required to provide us the name of the cardiologist you would use when you apply. When Lizzy came into rescue, she needed a dental. She only had 13 teeth that needed to be cleaned/ but unfortunately, they were bad and all had to be pulled. Good news, Lizzy is in no more mouth pain and you will not need to pay for any more dentals. Lizzie is okay with a leash. She does better at her potty duties if she has a secure area to go in. For this reason, we would discuss a small designated physically secure area, as Lizzie isn't really fond of playing outside. She doesn't need a fenced yard, but she does need some security. Remember how little she is, and NEVER should she be left alone outside. Lizzie is a stage 5 clinger, she will glue herself to you, or any human, who will pick her up. Her number one goal all day long is to be touching a human. Being held by a human, laying next to a human, sitting with a human, staring at a human.....lol. You get the idea. Lizzie is an excellent car rider. She is just happy to be part of the festivities. Lizzie is just so thankful to have a chance at her own family. She is an absolute gem that doesn't get into any trouble, loves everyone she meets, and just wants love! Please let us know if you have the perfect home to offer Lizzie by sending us an email. NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS Cavapoo (Cavalier & Mini Poodle) 3mo/ dob 11.22.24 4lbs Spayed / Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you meet the requirements, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications can be found on our website. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be reviewed and/or contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Maribel is a typical tiny puppy. Her exception is that she was lucky enough to be relinquished to rescue as opposed to being shipped off to a pet store. We often hear from breeders & shelters that black puppies/dogs are hard to get adopted/sold. Maribel says, "phooey, I'm ready to be your best friend!" Her personality can be described as snuggly, bouncy, fun, friendly, & playful. She loves making friends, she enjoys playing with toys, and she has every reason to believe that each day will be better than the day before! Don't we all need that kind of optimism! 😉 We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. Maribel will need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up. This area will be a part of the home where she can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. A place where she can play, lounge, or nap when her family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. A four-pound puppy can quickly slip through some really tiny spaces. So, if you do have a fence you will need to make sure any gaps are fixed/secured. An aluminum or slat type of fencing will need a gap filler around the bottom half so she can't get through, something like galvanized wire mesh or another sturdy mesh type material. If you do not have a physical fence, an x-pen will be fine to allow her to do her business outside. However, puppies should NEVER ever be left in a yard without supervision, NEVER. Maribel is working on potty training. It is a process that will require commitment & patience, as puppies have a little puppy bladder. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep your puppy off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles. Safety concerns for small children, large dogs, & people who are unsteady on their feet will be taken into consideration when looking for Maribel's forever home. Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt an adorable puppy. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.
