He is an energetic, shy but affectionate (once he gets to know you) and smart that likes other dogs and teen kids. He is a great companion for an active family with a secure 6 ft fence, children over 12 years of age or active single person. Catahoula experience is recommended. He is an indoor dog. He likes walks, car rides, toys. and dog beds. He will require daily walks and some dog training. Will require 6 ft fence. No apartments or rentals. No cats. Helotes Humane Society is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, where there are over 350,000 homeless pets. We save homeless and abandoned dogs and find them loving forever homes in other areas, where pet homelessness is not epidemic. All of our pets are located here, in San Antonio, and we partner with rescues to provide transportation for our pets to their new homes. Our adoption fee includes vet care (vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping, etc), as well as transportation and health certificate. Story
Larry truly is the best boy. I adopted him in 2017 and have been with him ever since. He was abandoned in Texas and brought to Wisconsin and has a few behavioral quirks. He is afraid of most things and has some fear based aggression. He needs to be the only dog in the home. He never really learned how to play nicely and with his size, gets unknowingly aggressive when he thinks he's still playing. He also is innately a protector and will nip at unknown visitors or anyone showing fear. He's great with our 3 kids but we worry about their friends as they are strangers to him. He loves food so cannot be free-fed and loves to howl with the trains going by. He also loves squeaky balls. He is kennel trained and loves to lounge but only when he feels secure. Otherwise he gets anxious and nervous. We have a fourth child on the way and just can't give him the life he deserves. He's anxious and fearful all the time and doesn't deserve that. We will keep him until he goes to the right fit for him.
