Story
Meet Sheldon! Sheldon is a 9-month-old herding dog mix? DNA test is pending!! (about 30 lbs) and he’s now been with us just over two months so we know him very well Sheldon’s journey didn’t start easy. He was found abandoned in a house with another dog, severely underweight and covered in ticks. After that, he spent two long months waiting in an overcrowded shelter and was on his last 24 hours before we stepped up. Despite everything he’s been through, Sheldon has grown and learned so much with us. Sheldon is now healthy and at a proper weight, he is a medium-high energy pup who is full of personality, he loves to snuggle and is wonderful with new people. With dogs, he does best once properly introduced — and then he’s all in for playtime! His highlights: - Crate trained - House trained — lets you know when he needs to go out - Great on leash - Excellent in the car - Knows basic obedience, including a solid “middle” command - Extremely smart and highly treat-motivated - Loves scent games and has fantastic potential for dog sports or service-style training Sheldon would thrive with someone who understands herding or working breeds so that he continues to grow into a confident and loving boy. Watching Sheldon go from a scared, fragile puppy to a confident, playful dog has been incredible. He didn’t survive everything he went through just to be overlooked now. All he needs now is for someone to believe in him. All POSO Dogs come with: - Spayed/Netuered - Basic Shots (age appropriate) - Fecal and 4dx testing - other medical concerns addressed before adoption - 2 Free one on one dog training sessions with a professional dog trainer - Training received in foster home - Basic things like some food, treats, leash and collar - PDFs of training material and local coupons and dog sitter recommendations

Story
Good day! I'm Tiara! My sister and I were adopted together when we were little, but somehow we found ourselves back out in the world and ended up as strays. I’m a mix of Catahoula Leopard Dog and German Shepherd — so I’ve got both smarts and style! I’m a sweet girl who gets along well with other dogs, and I’ve even been around chickens, turkeys, and goats with no trouble at all. I’d love a home where I can stretch my legs, run, play, and go on all sorts of adventures with my people. I'm super smart, a quick learner and I respond well to training. I just graduated a 7 week obidence training course. I'm also housebroken & I've lived in a home before and know the ropes. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving friend who’s ready to make every day brighter, I think I might be the one for you! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##1119139##

Story
Can you take him higher? Because Creed is ready to soar straight into an active, committed home. Creed is a smart, energetic young pup with a big appetite for life and treats. He’s highly food-motivated and loves having a job to do, which makes training a fantastic way to build trust and teamwork. Think of him as a dog who truly believes that with the right guidance, he can fly. This playful guy will thrive in a home with space to run, explore, and burn off his puppy energy. Toys are one of his great loves, and he’s still learning which ones are fair game. With consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, he’s well on his way to being stronger than yesterday. Creed is best suited for an experienced, attentive adopter who enjoys training and understands canine communication. He can be protective of toys at times, so thoughtful toy management and treat trades are important, especially around kids or visitors. If you’re ready to put in the work, build a bond, and help a young dog grow into his best self, Creed could be your own prison break into a more active, joyful life. Come meet him and see if you’re ready to walk this path together.

Story
Malinali is the sweetest dog I’ve ever met! We inherited her from my brother who was allergic and we’ve had her for six years now and she’s been a delight. Unfortunately I moved out of state and can no longer care for her and her brother who live at my mother’s. My mother is a little Older and has allergies to both dogs so we’re trying to rehome them ASAP and make sure they will be taken care of! Mali is a sweet, very smart girl who’s adventurous, and loving. We’d love to find her a new home. She’s a perfect family dog or for someone who works from home.
