Story
Meet Sonny, also known as Chicken Nugget, a 6-month-old sweetheart who is equal parts adorable, loyal, and just a little bit sensitive in the cutest way. Sonny is 100% potty trained and crate trained, making him an easy addition to a home that’s ready for a young pup. He’s still very much a puppy, learning about the world one step at a time, and new adventures can feel a little scary for him at first. Because of that, Sonny thrives when he has another confident dog by his side. Having a dog friend isn’t just a bonus for him, it’s his number one requirement. He looks to other dogs for comfort, guidance, and play, and truly comes out of his shell when he has a buddy. This sweet boy has a gentle, loving nature and bonds deeply with his people. Once he feels safe, he’ll happily follow you around and soak up all the affection you have to give. He does best in an active home where he can continue building confidence, explore, and play. Sonny is not suited for apartment living and will need a home with space to move and a family committed to giving him the exercise and structure a young pup needs. If you have a playful, friendly dog and are looking to add a soft-hearted, loyal companion to your home, Sonny could be your perfect match. He may be a little shy at first, but with love, patience, and a canine best friend, Sonny will grow into the most devoted and happy boy. To see more pictures and videos, copy and paste this link. Story
Tawny is a delightful Carolina Dog mix with a heart full of love and an adventurous spirit. There’s nothing she enjoys more than being with her family, making her the perfect companion for someone looking for a loyal and affectionate pup. Whether she’s lounging in the sun, playing in the yard, or going on an outdoor adventure, Tawny is always happiest when she’s by your side. Tawny was in North Carolina for a big snow storm and she loved it! This sweet girl rides well in the car and is fantastic on a leash, making her an excellent travel and walking buddy. She absolutely loves water, so if you enjoy hiking, camping, or trips to the lake, Tawny will be right there, ready to join in on the fun. Her favorite backyard pasttime - playing a good game of fetch! She gets along wonderfully with all dogs, making her a great addition to a multi-dog household. She would fit right in with a dog that wants to play. She does have a habit of jumping when excited, so a home without toddlers would be best. She has been in a household with cats and is good with the ones that are not hissing or aggressive with her. We recommend a home without cats for safety purposes. Tawny is very affectionate and thrives on attention and affection. She is fully potty trained. She does well in a kennel but prefers to be on the couch or bed with her family. Currently being fostered in Kannapolis, NC, Tawny is looking for a forever home where she can be part of an active and loving family. If you’re searching for a playful, adventurous, and affectionate companion, Tawny is ready to be your best friend! To see more pictures and videos, copy and paste this link. Story
Meet Kevin, a resilient and soft-natured senior dog who came to the San Antonio Humane Society just before Christmas. He is an 8-year-old German Shepherd mix who was surrendered after his previous owners were not able to provide the medical care he urgently needed. When Kevin first arrived in our care, it was clear he was extremely uncomfortable. Our amazing staff in the Leeu Naylor Medical Building found that Kevin was suffering from significant skin inflammation and had noticeable hair loss. The irritation was mostly centered in a large hot spot on his chest, which made him extremely itchy. Ear cytology tests revealed he had an active infection in both ears that required immediate treatment and regular cleanings. Kevin began a dedicated recovery plan that included weekly medicated baths, laser light therapy to help stimulate hair regrowth around his ears, careful wound management with topical medications and creams, allergy medication, and a special diet. Most importantly, he was given plenty of TLC from our staff and volunteers. After several weeks of attentive care, Kevin has made amazing progress and is now ready to find his forever home! Throughout his treatment, Kevin has remained incredibly sweet and cooperative. He loves people and will show off his impressive handshaking skills for a tasty treat. He tolerated baths, treatment, and even dental extractions like a true gentleman. Pelvic radiographs revealed mild hip dysplasia, which is common in large senior dogs. At this time, it only slightly limits his activity; future options such as supplements, physical therapy, or other treatment can be discussed with a primary veterinarian. Our medical team also recommends consulting your primary veterinarian regarding allergies in pets and the cost of prescription food and allergy medication as well before adopting. This means that he will need a family dedicated to giving him the best of his golden years and are ready to help him adjust. It is recommended that he stay on his prescribed veterinary diet and limit treats to help manage his allergies. We don’t know yet if he will have a complete recovery of his hair, but we know that regardless, he will remain a truly lovable dog. After spending much of his life outdoors, he would thrive in a home with a cozy bed, calm environment, and plenty of affection. Come and meet Kevin today; he is sure to leave a lasting impression, just as he has on our staff and volunte

Story
Check out this handsome guy! Could this be your Valentino? A boy with a classic rescue story, Valentino was adopted as a puppy, but he was sadly picked up by Animal Care Services in his adulthood. When their staff reached out to us about his SNIPSA microchip, we just couldn’t leave him behind! We don’t know what happened to Valentino’s owner, but we are glad to give him the opportunity to find a loving family again. Valentino is both affectionate and spunky. He enjoys games of fetch, always making sure to bring the ball back when he’s ready for another round. He is also perfectly kennel-trained, though his favorite spot is right by your side. It’s clear that he was dearly loved at one point. Being a Carolina Dog/Husky blend, it is important to note that Valentino has lots of energy. He would benefit from training in his new home and a job to do. Whether he becomes your new hiking partner, hunting buddy, or superstar in dog agility competitions, one thing is for certain: the more time you spend with him, the happier he will be! Valentino is a stunner, but most importantly, a lover. Apply to meet him today!
