Story
Named for the blind scientist and mathematician Nicholas Saunderson, Nick is a friendly, intelligent 73-lb. Carolina Dog, approximately 8 years old. He doesn't let his blindness slow him down - in fact, he can be a bit bullheaded about accepting help when navigating obstacles. With his excellent sense of smell, Nick prefers to figure things out on his own, thank you very much. To keep him safe he does require a fenced in yard. Nick is friendly with other dogs once properly introduced, although he does have a preference for females. Before that, he may react defensively, which we believe is related to his blindness. He does well with resident dogs and cats, though he's quite curious about them. Nick loves his twice-daily walks and will stand patiently while you put on his walking vest. He is a very strong puller - especially when he wants to sniff something interesting or greet a new dog - so he'll need an adopter with the strength and confidence to manage him. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and up to date on vaccinations. Nick is a determined, affectionate dog who will thrive with someone who understands his unique needs and independent spirit. If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website at arporescue.org to learn more about our adoption process and complete our adoption application. ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis. We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.

Kenna is very sweet, but she is on the shy side. She takes a little bit to get used to you, but when she warms up, she is an amazing dog. She does good on leash and going outside to potty. She does good with other dogs when introduced properly, and she would do best with older kids. She loves being outside and she would love an adopter that can be patient with her.

Story
Hi, I'm Tilly! Well, let me tell you — life has a funny way of working out. Not long ago, I was out on my own, wandering the streets of Indianapolis just as the temperatures started to drop and the clouds were rolling in. Suddenly some pretty incredible people from a rescue saw me and said "not on our watch." And just like that, my whole world changed. Since then, I've been soaking up every single moment. I've met so many dogs (big ones, little ones, all of them wonderful), I've made friends with cats, I've charmed every human who's crossed my path, and honestly? I think I'm pretty good at this whole socializing thing. I've seen parks, neighborhoods, new smells, new sounds, and I've handled all of it like a champ. No drama here, just vibes. Now let me tell you about my favorite things: Fetch? Tug? Love it! My signature move is I stalk the toy first. I crouch down low, lock in my gaze, and then? ZOOM. I'm incredibly light on my feet and I think it's one of my best qualities. I bring a lot of joy and a lot of speed to a backyard. I've been told I have a sweet, soft soul, and I think that's the truest thing anyone has ever said about me. I love deeply, I play hard, and I'm ready to pour all of that into a forever family. My dream home? A place with another young dog who can keep up with me and be my very best friend. But I'd also thrive as the only pup if my family is committed to playdates, adventures, and giving this puppy energy a proper outlet. I just need somewhere to *run*, someone to *play with*, and a couch to crash on at the end of the day. A few things to know about me: I'm fully potty trained and crate trained — pretty impressive for a girl who was just found on the streets, right? I want to be part of the action so sometimes I talk while I'm in my crate but I do settle fast. I'm also fully up to date on all my vaccinations and ready to go! I survived a storm, and now I'm ready for my sunshine. Could that be with you? Come find me. I've been waiting for you.

Story
Sharon is one of those dogs whose entire world changes once she feels safe. The first thing she seems to need from people is patience. Once she realizes she is not being pushed or pressured, a softer side starts showing through. She has learned to walk nicely in a harness, enjoys long walks and exploring, and absolutely lights up when given space to run around and play. She knows several commands, enjoys treats, and has shown she can be affectionate and interactive with people she becomes comfortable with. Watching her warm up feels less like flipping a switch and more like watching trust slowly unfold in real time. Sharon can still be wary with new people and unfamiliar situations, especially at first. She pays close attention to her surroundings and takes her time deciding who she trusts. Once that trust is there, though, she becomes much more relaxed, affectionate, and engaged. She is not the type of dog who will instantly greet every stranger like an old friend, and that is okay. Sharon is looking for someone willing to meet her where she is, move at her pace, and appreciate the quiet victories along the way. The reward is a smart, sensitive dog who clearly wants connection and is already showing how much progress she can make with kindness and consistency. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
Twilight is a 6 month old Siberian Husky/Carolina Dog mix. She was dropped off at IACS at 4 months old with a healing broken leg, a few broken teeth and severe dental issues that resulted in her having three teeth extracted. She was adopted in February by the neighbors of a coworker of mine who proceeded to either keeps her locked in a kennel inside that they wouldn’t clean out or keep her outside with no food or water outside of what my co worker was able to provide. About a month after she was adopted, she was dumped onto my coworker’s front lawn by her owner and kicked whenever she tried to go back to him. I have been fostering her since then, but have run out of time to be able to continue fostering her, due to my schedule keeping me from home for almost 10-12 hrs a day. She is a lovely, sassy little lady who loves playing, and attention, though is a bit nervous in new environments. She loves being outside, but will chase after any small creatures.
