Story
Meet Marie! This girl is always down for adventure (unfortunately, without her people)! This girl has gotten lose 4 different times from adopters and fosters and has trekked from North County to South County of San Diego prior to landing with us. With the proper adopter, this girl is aiming to please, does great with dogs and is devoted to her inner circle of people. Due to her ability to escape, she can NEVER be left unattended (crated when you are gone or can't keep an eye on her) and walked on a double leash. We know this doesn’t make her sound like the most appealing dog in the world, but we promise you, once you meet her, the extra safety measures won't seem that bad.  She wants nothing more than to please and be with her people.  Her escape tendencies come from years living at large in the desert and protecting her pups.  She can jump (impressively), climb, leverage, dig, you name it.  Loud noises and the unexpected scare her.  She has blossomed from being aloof to approaching every new person looking for food and love.  She is loyal, loving, kind and forgiving.  She is solid with dogs and balanced with a neutral mate.  She loves to explore the world on leash and just hang out if that is preferred.  It's been a year in the making but she is more than ready to graduate to her future home.  She needs a forever that will keep her safe no matter what and she'll love your forever in return. Because of my Flight Risk I cannot be left unattended in a yard, crate training is a must when you are gone, tight grip on the leash is a must on adventures and my new family must be aware of open doors and windows.  NO offleash activities in unfenced areas for life. Story
She’s a beautiful mix breed with a smile that'll brighten any day! I'm 1 1/2 year old and weigh in at about 38 pounds. Perfect lap dog size if you ask me! If she fits. She’s a silly and sweet girl who charm's the socks off of everyone she meet. She still have some playful puppy energy but also love a good afternoon snooze! She does well with other dogs, do well in my crate and enjoy going for walks. She can be a little shy with new people but once she warms up her silly side comes out. If you're looking for an affectionate, loyal pup to hang by your side, apply for her! She can't wait to find her forever home.

Story
Meet Penny! She originally transferred to us a young pup from the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility in 2018. Adopted in 2018, Penny returned to us in July of this year. She was originally listed as a Labrador/Boxer mix pup, but seeing her full adult size and markings, we now have her listed as a Basenji mix. Penny's developed anxiety in her previous home which compounded over the years and became fear-based reactivity. We recommend reviewing her origin & progress stories below: Penny's Return: https://www.facebook.com/heartofgoldsshelter/posts/pfbid02whoN43cDPKKKExEqBHq8kNDkwHXBJbQxJfXndK3EhSgGXJ5puaaSwnpfwezrsCRFl Penny's Progress: https://www.facebook.com/heartofgoldsshelter/posts/pfbid02QEToHtcCTP6NbKebvtiZs3yPU3yPAyDeFVDvthiYo8fxSMV9SxP4qRALxSXyDm94l Penny's most recent update: https://www.facebook.com/heartofgoldsshelter/posts/pfbid02F4tFELzbyTDVdd4mjFi6VAHEek4hCMMTZpzY5B3p7oNsMDboHESyawFPyWrQN63Ul Behavioral Considerations: With dedication to her training with CRT K9 Dog Training in a foster home setting and being surrounded by those experienced with the nuances of dog behavior, Penny is thriving and enjoys her foster home filled with 5 dogs, another foster dog (Tank), and 4 cats. While there are multiple management techniques in place that help her peacefully co-exist in a multi-animal home, Penny will do best in a home that has either: -No pets -An owner with extensive experience with safely managing a multi-dog (any size) or multi-animal household (she can get a little carried away when playing and needs to be slowed down) -An owner experienced with reactive dogs Penny develops a heavy attachment to those she loves. She adores her foster mom and with love, patience, and a structured setting, she will also look at her future mom/dad as though you are her sun, her moon, and all her stars. A loyal gal indeed! We want her to succeed in this second chance at adoption and are looking for an adopter that is not just excited about her adorable face and kissable cheeks but has the experience and means to care for a dog that isn't looking for the mental overstimulation that dog parks provide. Penny prefers to get her exercise with her people and dogs she has built trust with, and who are respectful of her boundaries. We as humans can definitely empathize with that! While Penny does enjoy cuddle time, down time, and lots of kisses, she is quite the track star and loves to sprint, explore, and fetch during play time! A home what will keep her active in a safe & controlled environment is where she will thrive! We will send a package of professional training sessions to her future home, to give Penny her best foot forward in a new environment. A trainer coming directly to an adopter's home for these sessions will ensure that she thrives and is helped along through another life change. Regarding COVID-19 and other contagious illnesses: Please reschedule any visits if you are sick.
