If those details about Harrison didn’t deter you, let me introduce you to the most affectionate giant you’ll ever meet. Harrison is a purebred 5-year-old brindle Cane Corso, weighing in at around 125 pounds of pure love.
He gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and was raised on a farm surrounded by livestock. Harrison adores car rides and will happily hop in on his own, though he prefers a ramp for a smooth exit. He’s both crate trained and house trained, making him a great companion. With an experienced handler, he walks beautifully on a leash. His basic obedience skills are already pretty solid but they are improving more every day. At doggy daycare, he shines. He navigates pet-friendly restaurants, venues and stores like a true pro.
Harrison was brought to our facility following the divorce of his owners, necessitating a new placement for him. Upon his arrival, we initiated the process of preparing him for adoption. However, during this time, we noticed some concerns regarding his right front leg. Initially, we speculated that the issue might have arisen from a minor incident during his transition to our care. Yet, subsequent radiographic examinations revealed a bone chip lodged in his elbow, indicative of elbow dysplasia, a condition he likely developed during his puppyhood. Regrettably, this bone fragment has contributed to significant damage in the joint, leading to the onset of arthritis.
We consulted with a surgeon regarding the possibility of removing the bone chip. Unfortunately, this particular surgeon expressed reservations about proceeding with the surgery, primarily due to the fact that Harrison had developed a heart murmur during his neutering procedure. Although this murmur resolved post-surgery, the surgeon felt that the potential risks associated with the operation outweighed the benefits, especially considering Harrison's size and age.
Subsequently, we sought the opinion of another specialist. However, after thorough discussions with both Harrison's veterinarian and his foster caregiver, we collectively decided against surgical intervention. We believe that with proper management—maintaining a healthy weight, administering daily joint supplements, and providing anti-inflammatory medications on days when he experiences discomfort—Harrison can enjoy a relatively normal and fulfilling life.
Should his future adopters wish to explore surgical options, we are more than willing to provide them with all relevant medical records pertaining to his elbow condition, enabling them to make informed decisions in consultation with their veterinarian.

Harrison is presently residing in a loving foster home in Monroe, NC. When he transitions to his forever home, he will come equipped with a spacious 54" crate, remaining supply of his current food, joint supplements, and anti-inflammatory medications. It is essential that he visits your veterinarian, or his usual vet based on your location, within 30 days of adoption. This visit will help ensure he stays on his preventive medications and ensure he has access to any medication he may require for his elbow.
