Mavis is a cane corso mix. She is very energetic. She knows her basic commands and is good on a leash. She likes to play tug of war. She will sit on the couch with you and give you a lot of love. If you are interested in her, we ask you have a fenced in yard and allow our trainer to visit your home prior to adoption and three months after adoption. We do prefer someone with breed experience. We also ask that you live in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe or Schuykill count in PA or Warren county in NJ. Paws 2 Freedom Kennel License #14096. New Tripoli, PA 18066. www.paws2freedom.site

Story
Meadow is a rescue. We have had her about 6 weeks. She was definitely not socialized as a puppy and we have been working with her. She is a year old. She is very protective of her territory. She needs some additional leash training. Her obedient commands are well received. She is very lovable. We don’t know much about her prior owners. They had a two year old. She definitely likes to be with people. Not sure how she is with other animals. On walks she pays them no attention.

Story
MARVEL is a 5 yr old Italian Mastiff (Cane Corso) who came to us after she became protective of her family in their home. Marvel is a victim of Covid-19. With the shelter in place order, her family was not able to properly socialize her and she grew up as a “big fish in a little pond”. Her family had many special needs children and medical care professionals needed to visit the home during the pandemic. They arrived wearing masks and Marvel thought that was very scary and began to protect the children from these masked strangers. The family called in a trainer but, due to the circumstances, everything was a little overwhelming for them. We acquired her on the day she was to be euthanized. Marvel has been fine with us. With a handful of treats she warms up quickly to our volunteers. We did have one incident with an unannounced visitor who approached her quickly and the result was a bite. In a home she may revert to her protectiveness so we are looking for a family with Cane Corso experience - walking the line between socialization and keeping her safe. Cane Corsos were originally war dogs during the Roman empire and used for protection - it is ingrained in their DNA. They have also been used for drafting and droving cattle – IE they need a job to do. Just sitting around the house twiddling their thumbs is a recipe for disaster which is what got Marvel into the situation in the first place. We have paired Marvel with playful young male dogs and they do well together with supervision (Marvel tends to play rough and takes the upper hand). We feel that she could work out in a home with a well-adjusted male dog to show her appropriate dog behavior or as an only pup. Not cat compatible. Marvel can fly over a 4 foot fence so 6 foot privacy fencing is ideal. If you are the home that we are looking for, please fill out an application at www.CompAnimals.org. Marvel is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. Adoption $300.November 3, 2024, 10:40 am

Story
Woodland ACCT-A-179037 is a 2-year-old male that was brought in by APOs as a stray on 10/23. APOs noted on 10/23 that "dog is underweight, did not warm up to me that well but seemed to love the ladies. Let a young woman pick him up for me and put into truck compartment. Behavior Notes: Per staff 10/29: "Such a great boy who walks like a gentleman and sits so patiently. he allows handling and pets and sat right by my side just hanging out. He also jumped up on me a couple times, put his paws on my chest like he was giving me a hug. A really sweet babe. He does seem wary of men as he met a potential male adopter today and he did OK with him but was a bit nervous and barked at him a couple times. I was able to leash him and returned to kennel without issue Per staff 10/29: "Did a meet with a potential adopter, and it went pretty well. He is an amazing boy. He did so well with me, personally but was a little wary of the potential adopter. He did allow pets from him but backed away nervously at one point and barked at him. BEHAVIOR EVALUATION 10/24: Woodland "KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION Woodland was on the back half for cleaning. He was laying by the door and when the handler approached he began hard barking and growling. When the handler showed him the leash he grumbled and then quieted down. He sniffed the leash once the kennel was opened and did some wags and was a little nervous still but allowed the handler to lasso him, occasionally dodging it. Once secured came right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING: In the yard, Woodland took some treats from the handler a bit snatchy, but given his condition it is understandable. With an open palm, he was very gentle. He allowed some handling but walked away. He sniffed around the yard with a nervous demeanor, very flinchy and nervous of the handlers. He was very curious, coming up to the handlers for nice sniffs and allowing some sweet pets and rubs- he wasn't the biggest fan of it all but remained very tolerant. He loves baby talk and was being called a good boy. PLAY No interest TOYS: No interest Staff noted on 10/23: "Walked by Woodland. Found him growling and lunging in the kennel as well as hard barking and whale eyeing staff. Staff noted on 10/23: "Woodland has been whale eyeing, hard staring, and hard barking in kennel. Medical Notes: Per an exam on 10/28: "Body condition score of 2. Bilateral watery nasal discharge. Live fleas. Thinning hair on caudal dorsum. Abdomen is soft, non-painful. Great appetite. V. shy but sweet boy! In house CBC/chem10/lytes: HCT 35.1%, monocytes 2120/uL. Staffs overall assessment was; Very thin body condition - r/o malnutrition +/- intestinal parasites vs systemic/metabolic disease (Chem10/lytes unremarkable) Fleas Mild pre-regenerative vs non-regenerative anemia On 10/28: Woodland was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. A PCR test was done and Woodland tested positive for coronavirus. Per an intake exam on 10/24: Other than a low body condition and a scratch on the left side of his nose, he was found to be in good general health.
