We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
I got him from a friend who was going to have him put down because he is paraplegic. Either his mom or some human stepped on him smashing his hind quarter. He gets around without any extra contraptions. He is a good boy! He loves to cuddle! He has been an inside dog for as long as I have had him. I do let him out in the backyard but he really does not like outdoors for a long period of time He will be 1 year old on September 4.2024. He has only had his first shots! With my busy schedule, I do not have time to fully commit to his needs!

Story
Meet Bronson- the 3yr Corso! Bronson is a very energetic and happy boy. He is always down for a game of fetch or tug and he loves going for walks! He is a very sweet boy and loves meeting new friends- both human and doggy. He does very well with other medium and large breed dogs and would love to have a playmate! Bronson is looking for a home with a fenced backyard with no small children or dogs. He also needs a family who will meet his exercise needs daily. Cane Corso's are known to be quite stubborn, and Bronson is no exception. Bronson is by NO means aggressive; however, he does need an experienced adopter who is willing to keep up on his training. He is a very intelligent boy, and just needs a family who will enforce boundaries with him. He is crate trained, house trained and knows basic commands. He does tend to forget how big he is and can also get very over excited at times. This can lead to him jumping up on people (playfully) or to him plowing people over. Because of this, he needs a family with no children under 13 or small breed dogs. He has been working very hard on these things while in our care and has already made tremendous progress. We have no doubt that with time, he will do well in these areas. Bronson is neutered, up to date on vet care, HW- and microchipped. Does Bronson sound like a good fit for your family? Reach out for an adoption application!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Meet the magnificent Miss Hetti. She is a playful, energy abundant Cane Corso, and likely, boxer mix. Her most recent weight has her up to 68lbs at around 16 months old. She loves tummy rubs, fetch, and Benebone chew toys. Hetti thrives on multiple walks per day however can over heat quickly in higher temps. She is very strong and still learning manners with passing animals so an experienced handler and dog owner is a must. She loves greeting people but due to her size and still puppy behaviors, a house with kids over 12 is preferred. For Hetti to live her best life she should be a solo canine with a large fenced yard and an active owner willing to give her the exercise and attention she needs. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. October 3, 2024, 3:37 pm

Story
Meet Toph! She is a puppy from our Avatar Litter. She was born on March 10, 2024 and is a Cane Corso/Lab/Presa Canario/Pit mix. Toph, aka Toffee, is an energetic, smart girl who is eager to explore the world and make new friends. She is confident, spunky, and full of life. She enjoys going for walks, playing with other dogs at daycare, and romping around with her foster siblings. She especially loves to playfully wrestle with the cats she has grown up with. She is the perfect blend of active and affectionate. She will sneak a kiss whenever she can, wants to be in your lap or near you, and loves to snuggle. Her foster describes her as the ultimate love bug. Toph is always excited to greet you at the door with her never-ending tail wags. Toph is smart and food motivated, which makes training a smooth and exciting. She is potty trained, leash trained, and crate trained. She knows "sit" and is working on other basic commands. She is friendly to cats, dogs of all sizes, and kids. Toph's ideal home is one that is active and committed to keeping her busy. Applicants MUST have an adult dog in the home! When applying, you are applying to meet ALL puppies in the litter, not just one specific puppy. Your adult dog will accompany you during the meet and greet, and will help select the best match based on who gravitates toward you and your dog. Adoptions are based on connection and chemistry. Adoption is $325 and includes spay/neuter at our vet when age appropriate, vaccines to date of adoption, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health.
