Story
Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Birdy and according to my DNA test I am a Presa Canario which is a Mastiff originating from the Canary Islands but, don't let my breed fool you, l am not a large dog!
You've heard of "Toy Poodles" well meet the world's first "Toy Mastiff"! I did not have a great start to life and suffered through starvation, neglect, and backyard breeding which has stunted my growth, so l am not the large Mastiff I was meant to be.
I will let my foster mom tell you a little more about me!
Meet Little Bird aka Birdy! Grab your tissues because Birdy has a heck of a story. Birdy has experienced the type of neglect that you can't imagine actually happens to animals, she is only about a year old and lived in a too small crate and was starved her whole life, she was urine stained, and skin and bones when she came to me and missing quite a bit of hair from skin and ear infections. Because of her neglect her front legs are bowed, and she has "duck feet" and to put it bluntly she's pretty awkward looking, but other than not being a running partner and having a funny gait, she doesn't seem to have any issues getting around.
Birdy despite her past loves all people, enjoys being the little spoon at night and gives the best hugs! Birdy loves other dogs but is still learning boundaries so supervised play time and separation with toys is recommended at first. Birdy currently lives with a 90lbs Pittie, they coexist and play very well together, but I separate them with toys. Birdy is crate trained, quiet in the house, sits politely for mealtime, rides great in the car, and is very very food motivated. If you are looking for a dog that hits you right in the heart every time you look at her because you know what she survived and how far she has come, then Birdy is the girl for you! Birdy has not been tested with cats, but we are willing to travel for meet and greets. Birdy currently weighs about 45ish Ibs but still needs to put weight on. Birdy enters training on Jan. 10th, so hurry for meet and greets!
Birdy is spayed and UTD on all their vaccines, HW, FT, and have a microchip of their own. RPSM recommends children 6 years and older. Birdy will require a fenced in yard, either physical or underground. If you are interested in adopting Birdy, please go to www.rpsm.org to fill out an application. Birdy’s adoption fee is $300.
