Story
adoption donation : $599 weight 45 lbs Age: 2 years  Alex is a sweet, awesome dog who loves to play and gets along with everyone.  Alex was found by W.A.G.S. at the Okolona shelter. Even though the rescue is bursting at the seams with dogs, the wags  Director couldn’t leave him there, shelter employees said he was the sweetest dog.   Since he arrived at the rescue Alex has been having a blast, running and playing with the other dogs. Recently, his best buddy Tippy was adopted and Alex has been a little quiet lately.  We would love to get Alex out of Mississippi and into a loving family home. He would love to have another dog to play with, but would be fine just to have people around to give sloppy kisses to      Alex  has had his vaccinations and has been neutered and is a healthy and happy boy who will make a wonderful companion to the lucky family who adopts him.     Please note that Wags of Monroe county is a struggling 501(c) 3 volunteer organization where one woman in rural Mississippi takes care of about 150 homeless and stray dogs. Wags desperately need to raise funds to help the sick and older dogs at the rescue. Adoption donations are the only source of funding for the rescue. For more information on adopting Alex or any of our other dogs  please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com    October 24, 2024, 11:01 am

Story
Meet Aubie 💙 Aubie is a 10 year old Boxer mix. He had a wonderful home where he was spoiled and loved up until a few months ago and then his world fell apart 😔. Aubie’s owner got very sick and could no longer care for himself or Aubie. Aubie was placed at a local vet clinic for several months in hopes that someday he could return home to his person and the life he had always known but unfortunately that is not going to be possible due to the fact that his previous owner has had to have more surgery and has sadly lost his ability to walk. So now Aubie is looking for a new home where he has never has to worry about the future and he can just focus on being the good boy that he is. Aubie is crate and house trained and would do great in a settled home where he still gets to be active. We think a home with an active person or couple or one with older children would be great for Aubie. He is okay with other dogs but is not really interested in being a doggie friend. Aubie just wants a person to hang with and to play ball non stop 🎾. He is very active for his age so a fenced yard for him to run around in is a high priority especially since he loves to spend time outside. This boy has been through so much recently, we are praying his new family will see this post and give him the opportunity to live out his life in the way he deserves being loved and cared for by his new hero. ❤️

Story
Meet Queen (nicknames: Queen Bean, and Queen of the Beans) Queen is a gentle, loving mama whose puppies have all found homes—now it’s her turn to shine! She’s the perfect companion, great with dogs, cats, chickens, kids—basically anyone she meets! Playful and silly, especially with other dogs, her short-legged zoomies will have you laughing in no time. But most of the time, she’s so quiet and low-maintenance, you might forget she’s even there. Well, until you catch sight of her forever wiggle butt squeezing into spaces she doesn’t quite fit! While she’s still getting the hang of walking on a leash, she’s an excellent riding buddy and loves to be close. Super snuggly but equally happy in her crate, she runs there any time she thinks it’s time to eat! Just don’t let her fool you with her big booty—she’s a bit clumsy and sometimes seems blissfully unaware of her surroundings. Queen’s no jumper either, but her little dance next to the bed will tell you she’s ready to be picked up. And when she decides to join in, forget about personal space—she’ll wedge herself right next to you, but thankfully, she’s not a licker! She just nudges her head into you, rolls onto her back, and throws her feet in the air. If you’re looking for an easy, house-trained, calm but playful young adult who brings joy, cuddles, and plenty of smiles, Queen is your girl! Story
**Meet Spirit!** Spirit is a 1-year-old boxer mix with the most gorgeous blue eyes and a smile that will melt your heart. This sweet boy is very well-behaved and has quickly earned the nickname “Velcro dog” because he loves to stick close to his people. He’s pretty good on a leash and enjoys car rides, although he’s still a bit tentative and needs some encouragement to get in. Spirit is also working on his crate training; while he’s hesitant to enter, he does well once inside and doesn’t have accidents. Spirit is fantastic with children and gets along wonderfully with the 7-year-old in his current foster home. He’s still learning how to play with toys and prefers soft treats over hard ones. If you’d like to be the family that shows Spirit, what love is all about. Spirit is sure to become a loyal and loving companion. Are you ready to give Spirit the forever home he deserves? Story
Meet Sir Brompton! 🐾 Sir Brompton and his Mama Kate are two sweet souls that were found wandering onto the property of a kind-hearted person, most likely abandoned and searching for safety. Brompton, a playful 3-month-old puppy, adores his mama and hates to be away from her, but we know the chances of them finding a home together are slim. As much as he loves her, he’s ready to start a new chapter in a forever home full of love and belly rubs! 💙 This adorable boy is full of playful energy and is the first to flop over for belly rubs as soon as you pet him! Sir Brompton is a bundle of love who will follow you around, gazing up with those big, sweet, yet slightly sad eyes, asking for just a bit more affection. He’s amazing with dogs of all ages and sizes, as well as gentle and affectionate with kids and all visitors. Brompton would make a loyal and loving addition to any family—give him a cozy bed, a few treats, and some love, and he’ll be your most devoted friend. We’d love for Brompton and his mama to find their forever homes. If you can open your heart to this little “sushi roll” of a puppy, he’s ready to fill your days with joy and companionship. 🐶 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Meet Piper! This sweet, middle-aged boxer was surrendered to the West Memphis Animal Shelter along with her housemate Phoebe (who’s also up for adoption) after their owner passed away. They spent quite some time at the shelter before coming into our care. While initially considered a bonded pair, Phoebe and Piper are pretty independent. They don't interact much and happily play with other dogs. They’re separated at night with no issues, but if you're looking to adopt two sweet girls, we’re open to it!Check out this adorable video of the girls:https://youtube.com/shorts/ZQkKWla9GSk?si=f0yvWFYSqttBizkMPiper is an outgoing pup who is always ready for an adventure. She walks beautifully on a leash and is a fetch champion!Piper is well-trained, knowing how to sit, shake, and speak on command. She keeps her kennel clean and tidy, making her a great housemate. Story
Thunder is a 7 year old pit bull. I adopted him from the shelter when he was 3. Thunder has anxiety and takes daily meds which help a lot. Generally Thunder is a great dog but he needs a home without any other pets. He is very easy to walk on leash. He’s very friendly with people of all ages. He’s always excited to go on a walk, a car ride or just spend time with people. He likes to snuggle and sleeps most of the day. On a nice warm sunny day he’ll lay out in the sun until it goes down. He’s in very good overall health. I’m hoping someone can love him and give him a nice life into his senior years.

Story
Meet Applesauce - Take My Lead Dog Sweet, sensitive applesauce has had quite a journey. Rescued from a dog fighting ring, he has been in our program for quite a while as he worked through his fears to become the brave boy he is now. He is still apprehensive of new people so he will take a few meets to become secure with a new potential owner, he is thriving in his foster home in Fairfield, CT and making new friends, dogs and human alike. His optimal home would have a fenced in yard with room for him to run and bound around as that is when he is happiest. He is searching for a quiet home with someone familiar with fearful dogs. Once he comes out of his shell, he is a fun, exuberant boy with lots of personality. He is crate and house trained and has learned all sorts of different tricks. He will thrive in an environment with lots of mental stimulation to keep him occupied and fully enriched. He can easily live with another dog and potentially cats as well. Applesause is the recipient of a Handsome Dan's Rescue Take My Lead grant meaning he will get $500 in FREE private training to help his new person set him up for success. Lots of photos and videos on Facebook and Insta at #OurApplesauce. For questions feel free to reach out to his foster mom, Anya, at wellmanneredmuttct@gmail.com. To apply: HandsomeDansRescue.org
