Meet Honey, a female Boxer mix who is estimated to be 1-1.5 years old. Miss Honey was found as an abandoned stray in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Allentown. As her namesake suggests, she is sweet as honey, and is an energetic, playful, curious girl. Honey unfortunately displays signs of former abuse, and is very slow to warm up to new people. Despite her unknown past, she has opened up to and built complete trust with her foster mom, and loves kisses, cuddles, nibbling, tug-of-war, and fetch. She gets along great and loves playing with her two dog foster brothers (20 lb 6 year old Pomsky and 3 year old 45 lb Lab-pitbull mix), though she insists on being the center of mom's and her brothers' attention! She is still warming up to her foster dad and new people, and is frightened of sudden movement or loud speaking. When frightened Honey will bark but has never bitten. She has incredible potential to show love and loyalty to a new home with the right patience and training. Honey is doing great with crate and potty training, but is not completely housebroken yet. Neika is a 2 year-old sweetheart who was surrendered to Pet Search. She weighs approximately 50 pounds. She is house broken, and can ring a bell when she wants to go outside. She is very energetic, loves to play and snuggle and walks well on a leash with a gentle lead collar. After being adopted, she came back to us--she became the alpha/protector at her new home, which resulted in being aggressive with smaller dogs. She needs an alpha owner willing to work with her on impulse and leash control. (Pet Search can recommend a trainer who has been working with her.) We recommend a fenced yard, lots of play time, and a home with no young children because of her energy level. Neika is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Leo says, “Don’t mistake my wrinkled brow for worry. With my looks and joyful personality, I’ve got nothin’ to worry about.” Meet Leo, a transfer from the overcrowded shelters in WV. Leo already knows his "sit" and “down” commands. Estimated to be just about a year old and around 50 lbs., Leo loves to fetch and is learning to exchange the ball for a treat. During his first opportunity to move up in the world, he joined a couple and their cats, but the over-exuberant Leo began typical teenage antics landing nips and bites on his caretakers' arms (although he did not exhibit that behavior at the shelter or with volunteers) and upsetting the dynamic with the cats. We always learn more when people give a dog a try and with what was gleaned, there are no cats in Leo's future and he needs an experienced person who can work with him and his overly - exuberant behavior. He loves to sniff and hunt for critters in our fields around the shelter, and that seems to be more enriching than a boring walk!
