Story
Hi, I'm Zoey! Not to toot my own horn but I am literally the sweetest 6 year old Boxer/Terrier mix you will ever meet. A few months ago, I got lost with my sister and someone found us running by a highway. They picked us up and took us to a local shelter where no one came to claim us. I was a staff favorite at the shelter but that setting was not good for me. That's why some really nice people came and took me to a foster home instead. I really love living in a home with people who show me love and kindness. My foster family says I'm special because of my resilience. You see, I am a shy girl that does the best with other dogs. They bring out my true self. Watching me open up and blossom in such a short time has filled their hearts with love. I've gone from a shy girl to a playful and affectionate companion, and I'm ready to bring joy to my forever family.. One of the cutest things about me is how I tilt my head when I'm curious-it always makes my foster family smile. And guess what? I love having my nails painted! It's like a little spa day just for me. Speaking of activities, I have a few favorites. I absolutely love playing ball-throw it, and I'll chase it for hours. Going on walks is another favorite; there's so much to see and sniff! When I'm not playing or walking, you can find me sunbathing, soaking up the warmth and relaxing. To help me continue to thrive, I need a home with another confident dog who can show me the ropes. Having a furry friend around helps me feel more confident and comfortable. Patience is key, too. I need a bit of time to fully open up and show you all the love I have to give. I get along well with other dogs, though I'm not sure about cats yet. When meeting new people, I can be a bit shy, but if you give me the space to get comfortable and do my own thing, I'll warm up in no time. I've never shown any aggression-just a little patience and kindness is all I need. With people I know, I'm a total "wiggle butt"! I get so excited and happy to see my favorite humans. I love kisses, belly rubs, and lots of attention. My foster family calls me their little speckled cow because of the black dots on my belly and the trail of water I leave after drinking water-it's my special quirk! The ideal home for me is one with an active family who has at least one other confident dog and loves to throw the ball for me. I also enjoy my spa days, especially when I'm pampered with a bath, some coconut oil on my belly and ears, and a manicure. If you're looking for a smart, loving, and playful companion, I'm your girl. I promise to shower you with love and bring endless joy to your life. I can't wait to find a forever family that will spoil me and shower me with the love I deserve. Zoey is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, microchipped and spayed. She would do best in a home with a physically fenced yard so he can run and play safely. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Atlas is ready to be the king of your world! This handsome bridle boy is happiest when he's running and playing fetch.  Atlas is well trained and knows how to sit, shake, stay, lay down, wait, come, leave it and get up. Atlas is also muzzle trained, he prefers to wear this when meeting strangers or doing scary things like visiting the vet's office.  Atlas would thrive in an active home with adults only who are dog savvy and maintain a relatively quiet home life. We don't know all of his background, but we know that strangers in the home are scary to Atlas and he isn't sure if he's supposed to protect you from them or not!  Atlas loves to play, so another playful dog in the home would make for a perfect match! Atlas is kennel and potty trained, and also loves to give kisses. A 4-6 foot high fenced in yard would be a dream come true for ol' Atlas, here he could run and play to his hearts content and maybe learn some more impressive commands with a little help from his new family. If you are interested in learning more about Atlas please complete an adoption application for consideration at www.AdoptHope.org.  The adoption fee for Atlas is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives as well as a FREE obedience class through Cedar Run in Hiawatha.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and home visit.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm

Story
This 10-year-old girl is looking for a nice, comfy retirement home. Ellie Mae is a Boxer mix who lived most of her life with her best friend until he could no longer care for himself or her. She is a big girl at 100 pounds and is on a weight loss plan. She loves to go on walks but can't go too far at this point. She is a strong girl so not everyone can walk her. A fully fenced yard would make Ellie Mae very happy. She could get some exercise and then relax in the shade safely. She loves a car ride so she would be happy to run errands with you. Ellie Mae would be fine in a home with older kids. Her foster family has a high school aged boy and she loves to hang out with him. She needs to be the only pet in the home because she is dog reactive. We don't think she would do well with cats in the home. Ellie Mae has a bark that sounds mean but she warms up quickly, especially with a healthy snack. If you have it in your heart to give a senior their final forever home, please fill out an application using the link provided below. If we think it seems like the right fit for Ellie Mae, we will contact you to set up a time to meet her. https://dogsforever.org/adopting-from-dogs-forever/adoption-foster-form/

Story
Sweet Pete, he is as adorable as can be, as friendly as can be, snuggly, playful, all things amazing - as can be! At about 9 months old, this medium sized man is the greatest, most loving, and lively puppy, ever. From getting along with other dogs of ALL sizes, to kids, adults; everyone! We haven't yet cat-tested Peter, but let us know if you'd like us to and we will get right on it! Weighing in at approximately 40 pounds, while he does need to add some meat on his bones, he's surely getting there! His favorite thing to do is working for treats, likely due to his amazing food-drive, and while we are working on allll the basics with this guy; we know he will transition very well into most loving families. How do we know that? Well Peter is one of the most joyous, and goofy dogs I've personally ever met, especially when he's out romping with the other dogs - he listens to social signals SO well, and is able to get any other dog out of their little shell, all through play. But worry not, when he's worn out from some play, he is as content as ever to snuggle up with his people, and just melt on the couch.

Story
Meet Queen, the 8-year-old Boxer with a heart of gold, ready to capture yours! Queen’s journey to rescue wasn’t due to any fault of her own—her previous owners were unable to bring her along when they moved, but now she’s thriving in her foster home, where she’s showered with love and attention. At 48 pounds, Queen is the perfect blend of affectionate companion and playful spirit. She absolutely adores people and children. She gets along with other dogs but does want to hog all the attention. Social and outgoing, Queen loves to meet new faces, and she’s always eager to join in on the action—whether it’s a walk, a car ride, or just hanging out with her favorite humans. Cuddles, pets, and quality time are Queen’s favorite things—she’s always by your side, making sure she’s part of whatever you’re doing. Her gentle, loyal nature means she’ll follow you around, keeping you company with her loving presence. Queen is middle aged but you’d never know it. She has the energy of a three year old. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rocky is a young dog full of a great zest for life!  He is estimated to be pretty young yet - maybe around 7 months old and he looks to be a Boxer / Pittie mix.  Rocky was originally a stray from Cedar Rapids and had found himself in the crowded animal shelter in Cedar Rapids, needing a new placement.....so he was transfered to Safe Haven, where we have quickly fell in love with this sweet fella.  Rocky seems to know some basic commands already - in fact he has mastered the "sit" command, and then will roll over onto his back for a a quick belly rub!  We think Rocky is a super smart fella and it seems like he is a quick learner as well! Rocky will likely be a very loyal companion to some lucky family.  If you have a dog(s) in your home, we will require a meet-and-greet with both dogs at the shelter to help with proper introductions.                                   Interested in adopting this pet?
