Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). He reacts strongly to foods (possibly other things) and therefore requires two baths/week with a medicated shampoo (only one kind will work) and vet. prescribed foods (both indefinitely). As far as a home goes - he is a big dog who may or may not like to be in a home with or without other animals. He does have a prey drive. It all simply depends on the dynamics. He requires things to move slowly and simply. A slow intro to all members including other four leggeds is priority. He is clumsy and may bump a smaller human accidentally. He is very friendly and has trouble with fear aggression. He requires a home where his confidence is invested in. He is kind and generous. Too, he is thoughtful/playful/and fun. He will not thrive in a home with constant or even regular loud noise be that music, voices, instrument playing. He does like his kennel very much and plays around by himself as much as he enjoys playing with others.

I can be nervous until we know each other better, but if you lived on the cold/hot hard streets you may be a little wary with new people too. Now, my time at the rescue has really really improved my life and I am SO MUCH more social and outgoing! I am a big, beautiful reddish-tan Pittie/Labrador mix with a white racing stripe down the middle of my chest! Our small canine family came to God's Dogs Rescue in a pickle, a rag tag group of Labradors and one pregnant female! We came to this safe haven with just 3 dogs and now we're a whole lot more! But all of us are now spayed and neutered and READY for furever families who won't leave us to run the streets and starve, we actually have gotten a little chunky, lol and REALLY HAPPY!!
