Story
Miss Gordita is the sweetest little pit bull/boxer mix that you will meet! She is very loving and playful and always wants to be the center of attention! She loves to spend time outside, sniffing in the yard and would love to go to a home with a fenced in backyard. She knows her basic commands, and is very food motivated so she is very trainable. She definitely has us trained as well though, as she puts on the best puppy dog face! Gordita has shown some dog reactivity, but has been getting better on walks here at the shelter. Because of this, we think Gordita would do best as the only pet in the home. She is a very devoted girl and has been patiently waiting here at the shelter for the right person to come along! During her stay at the shelter, staff noticed that Gordita had some on and off GI upset and Gordita did end up going to the vet for surgery. Veterinarians said that Gordita has some tummy problems that are likely genetic, so now Gordita is on special food and it seems to be helping. Despite her challenges, Gordita is a playful girl and is still waiting for her forever home! She has been in the shelter for over a year now and she is patiently waiting for the right person to come along!Gordita is spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $400 which helps replenish our Hope Fund for animals that have needed a bit more medical care while being here at the shelter. If you are interested in meeting Gordita, please call or email us at staff@whitmanpets.org to schedule an appointment!

Story
Meet Sting! This handsome pup was briefly adopted from HSoP, but didn't get along with the other dog in the home. Now he's available for adoption and looking for a new home to spend his days! We estimate Sting to be around 1 year old. Since Sting did not get along with the dog in his previous home, we're recommending he go to a home with no other dogs at this time. We don't know how Sting does around cats, but it's very likely he would try to chase them. Sting earned his named from the stingray-shaped marking on his back. It's pretty distinct! Sting is nervous about the other dogs in our care, but has grown worlds more comfortable with our staff. He absolutely lights up when he gets to have one-on-one play time away from the noise of the dog kennels! Watching him get the zoomies is such a treat. Sting loves volunteers and makes new friends within just a few seconds! He's an incredibly athletic dog and has the energy to go for miles. Sting can run, jump, he could probably even climb if given the chance! We think he could make an excellent companion for outdoor adventures. Being the energetic muscle-head he is, Sting will require daily walks or access to a secure outdoor area to ensure his exercise needs are being met each day. He could also benefit from mentally-engaging activities, like kongs, slow feeders, frozen treats, and snuffle mats. One thing that sting will need help with is potty training. This is something that is much easier to learn in a home environment, with consistent reminders and opportunities to go potty outside. Sting will sit on command for treats and absolutely loves being told how good of a boy he is when he listens! He would likely respond well to continued training in his new home, as it would give him something positive to focus on. Sting is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and will leave HSoP with a microchip containing his new owner's information. Those interested in Sting should come visit him at HSoP! Our dog kennels are open from 1:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday with no appointments needed. Sting's adoption fee is $135.
