Hi my name is Rufus and I recently arrived to CAC through my local animal control. My history is a mystery so it is unknown how I will do with young kids or cats. My personality is as big as my smile. My friends here would describe me as a sweet, spunky, loveable boy! I have done well with other dogs my size so, if your buddy at home needs a zoomie partner lets have a meet and greet! MEET JOEY! Joey is a 7-month-old purebred Boxer puppy rescued from a California shelter. He came out of the shelter with stitches on his muzzle and body as he had likely been attacked by another dog. But Joey is doing great now! He's still underweight and we're working on that but beyond that he's a wonderful puppy. He will be neutered once he's at a healthier weight. Julia is one of the larger puppies in this litter, and possibly has the biggest heart. You can tell that this gentle, sweet soul will grow into a good size – she will be perfect for all sorts of adventures with you and have no problems keeping up. Gentle Julia is surprisingly delicate for her size; she’s actually quite deliberately dainty, and we love just watching her romp and play. Julia watches everything closely, and is quite playful and social. She adores a good belly rub and will catch your eye and roll over, just in case you were thinking about giving her one. (You definitely will – she’s irresistible!) Julia is mostly light brown and white, with dark ‘eyebrows’ that allow her to give you the most plaintive looks (here’s where the begging for belly rubs really kicks in). Her body is brown with white accents – all four legs have adorable knee-high white ‘boots’. Her tail is brown, except for the very tip, which is a white blur because this happy girl is always wagging her tail. Julia has a thick white stripe on her head blending into a white snout, neck, and belly. If you can resist her cheerful attitude and the cute little freckles on her belly, you are stronger-willed than us! You are sure to be entertained by all of Julia’s classic puppy antics. She loves to jump, roll, and play with all eight (8!) of her siblings and would do well in a house with other dogs, or as the sole star of your attention. This litter was born in care, and Julia is one of the six girls of this litter (that also has three boys). Julia is currently just 3 months old and 16 pounds, and we think she may be a Black Mouth Cur/Boxer mix, but with rescue it’s always a guess! What matters most is that they are adorable and are one the MOST desperate in the entire US based on statistics for where this puppy is from. Shelters in this area are having to euthanize puppies. So, this puppy needs you! If you choose a puppy from this rescue, it saves his/her life as well as the life of another in its place. Julia is still young so she will need a family that can commit to training, socialization and all the dedication puppyhood requires. Hi there, my name is Thorston, but they call me Thor. I'm a lovely 32-pound male pup, full-grown, at two years old. I have heartbreaking eyes and a very velvety black and white coat. I understand simple commands and am quite intelligent. I adore going on car rides; sleeping on a comfy, fluffy bed, and gazing out the window to enjoy the light. Sadie is an absolute lady with a love of squeaky stuffies, tennis balls, and people! This amazing girl stole all our hearts with her ease and smiling face, we hope she reaches yours too! Her face gives off an older look than her physical health and energy level show. Those details don’t speak to who Sadie is at her core though, this is a dog that only sees the goodness and reflects it right back. Everyone who met her commented that she “made my day” or “her happiness is contagious!” It was hard not be overwhelmed with a smile for seemingly no reason at all, no silly tricks or attention getters, just her company. She is something really special in this world and we can't even imagine how much more she will shine once she finds her forever family. Sadie’s easy-going nature can be seen in all her interactions- with other dogs she was friendly and content in their company, and with our house cat she was perfectly respectful. An ideal home for Sadie is one where napping is encouraged and dog-toys will be purchased. For a canine companion, Sadie would love an easy-going partner-in-chill and cats are welcome! Thanks to her calm and quiet nature, and size, Sadie would be a great fit for the apartment life or a house with a yard. All we think she absolutely needs is a family of her own and a home where she is loved! Sadie is great with kids, in her video she plays with a 6 year old. She’s gentle, patient and not easily overwhelmed by the sudden movements and loud noises that young children make. Sadie is also great with cats, not overly interested and happy to coexist. She’s a champion on leash, with enough stamina and interest to accompany you on long walks, but loves the indoor lifestyle enough to spend hours and hours snuggling on the couch. Sadie is a wonder-dog, and so thoroughly loved here at the rescue- we can’t wait to see her showered in the love of her forever family. **Meet Sweet, Sweet Selma—Always Ready to Smile!** Selma is the girl who loves everyone with boundless enthusiasm and is ready for her forever home. Just look at that cute smirk—her smile could brighten anyone's day! She currently weighs around 50 lbs, but her weight is still balancing back out after having puppies. She has been a wonderful mom to her sweet babies, but now she’s ready to enjoy the empty nest. Just make sure that nest doesn’t have any cats—Selma says “no thank you!” She does well in a crate and has been great with her potty training since day one. A social butterfly through and through, Selma has never met a human she doesn’t like. Yelling, crying, rambunctious kids? No problem! She has so much love and compassion for people. On walks, when she sees a friend, she wiggles her body and gently heads their way to say hello, nuzzling her head into your arms, making it impossible to resist petting her soft fur. In our rowdy barn, Selma offers a calming presence and helps keep the energy down for our boarding dogs. She’s new to playing and hanging out with dogs, but she’s starting to get the hang of it. She would do well with a dog that has a calm or gentle play style like hers. Just like a boxer, she uses her front paws and does that adorable boxer play. Selma was found as a pregnant stray. While she was in our nursery barn tending to her babies, she loved when staff spent time with her. She enjoyed her daily bully stick and would carry it to one of the behavioral staff to hold for her. She’s starting to get the hang of being a home pup and is proudly learning to take treats gently. She’d also love to learn how to cook in the kitchen with you, so make sure your cookies are safely tucked away in their jars! She’s a dream on a leash and will be great to take on walks.
