Story
How this pet arrived: Shay was brought in by a community member. Why Shay might be the one for you: Shay Natalia Gee (simplified here to Shay) is a handsome brindle dog. What's a brindle dog? It is the color, not the type of dog. Brindle is a coat pattern that has dark striping overlayed with lighter, colored fur. Shay wears her brindle coat well. Shay keeps herself quietly occupied with toys and naps in her kennel. Outside her kennel, she can get excited and jumpy. She soon calms down, however. Shay will need plenty of outside time and space to use up some her natural energy before she comes inside for pets and snuggles. Shay takes a little while to warm up to people but once she is accustomed to them, she is friendly and fun. She is smart so the additional training that she needs should be easy, especially if positive reinforcement verbals and treats are used. We can help you with the best way to use positive reinforcement training with a dog like Shay. A consistent routine and fun, enriching activities will help Shay get used to her new home and feel like part of her new family! If you'd like to learn more about Shay come visit us at the San Diego Campus today! At SDHS: Shay has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed neutered. Shay is now ready for their new home! Primary Color: Brindle Weight: 49 Age: 5yrs 1mths 3wks

How this pet arrived: This pet was brought in by a community member on August 17, 2025. Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Mija, an energetic and sweet pup who adores people! Mija greets new friends with wiggles and a wagging tail, and with the help of some tasty treats, she'll be your new best friend. Sometimes her excitement can get the best of her, so she'll thrive with a structured environment and opportunities to channel her energy into positive outlets. In the yard, Mija hops around with joy and excitement, and shows off her zoomies. She walks well on a leash and responds well to positive reinforcement training. Mija has shown mixed reactions to other dogs in our care, so she is looking for a home where she can be the only dog. If you're looking for a playful and loving companion to brighten your days, Mija could be your gal! At SDHS:This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. This pet is now ready for their new home! Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 41 Age: 2yrs 4mths 0wks

How this pet arrived: This pet was brought in by a community member on July 20, 2025. Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Rufus, a gentle pup with a sweet-as-pie soul and a heart full of love! He can be a bit shy with new faces, but once he gets to know you, he will reward you with loyal companionship and wiggly affection. Rufus loves to go for walks and has wonderful leash manners! He enjoys taking things a little slower, stopping to smell the roses - and the rocks and the grass and anything else he finds. Rufus is one smart cookie and is more than happy to show you how he can "sit" and "shake" for a treat. Rufus doesn't seem to mind seeing other dogs on walks, but doesn't have a known history of living with other canines. He will however need to go to a home without cats or small pets. Story
How this pet arrived: Sam was brought into care by a community member. Why this pet is the one for you: Meet Sam, a loveable, goofy pup searching for a family who will give him all the cuddles, pets and playtime he deserves. This affectionate boy often forgets his size, climbing into laps just to be closer to his favorite humans. Sam is still learning how to walk on a leash, but he loves running around enclosed spaces and showing off his impressive zoomies. Because Sam can be a little shy around new faces and in new spaces, he'll need a home where all family members are over 12 years old and can help him learn that the world isn't such a scary place. Does this love bug seem like the guy you've been waiting for? Ask about meeting him today! At SDHS:Sam is a Behavior Center Graduate! This means they've been working closely with our trainers to develop skills through behavior modification to be successful, though they may need a little extra care to continue their amazing progress. We're excited to share with you what they've learned and talk through how to help them get comfortable in this next chapter of their life! Primary Color: Brindle Weight: 80 Age: 2yrs 7mths 1wks
