Story
Looks like: Boxer, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever mix Male, 8 years old, 71 pounds Meet the dog with the world's biggest heart! Hank has tons of love to share in the form of cuddles, snuggles, and adoration for his family. Hank loves ALL people and wants to say hello to everyone he sees. He is gentle with kids and babies, staying still for them to come and pet him. He is gives great hugs, pressing his head between his human's knees and leaning in. And he communicates important things - knocking his food bowl when he's hungry, whining when he needs to go out for the potty and tapping the car arm rest when he wants the window down. He has excellent manners-rarely jumping up when saying hello, and asking permission before getting onto a bed or couch when in a new place. Hank would be happiest in a house where folks have deep reserves of affection ready to share with him. This energetic boy will need people who welcome a dog with spirit, strength, and passions: long walks, hikes, and fetch (although bringing the ball back to you isn't typically high on his priority list). Hank always wants to greet other dog friends but can be reactive on leash and has had a few scuffles with other dogs. Treats are a great way to distract him from a doggie passing by. He has successfully lived with cats in the past, but would require a gradual introduction with any new kitty friends. He admits that his natural inclination is to chase cats (squirrels and deer are also kind of irresistible). Hank sometimes protects his resources when he settles into a home. He happily shares toy, beds and water, but not food or treats. He would be best in a home as a solo dog or where feedings are in separate areas. Hank's dream situation would include a busy home with a human always around. Hank's DNA results show that he's a Super Mutt Mix! He's 50% Boxer mixed with German Shepherd, Golden Retriever and Border Collie. Hank was surrendered to us because his senior guardian was no longer able to care for him.

Story
HI - I'M MICKEY.... and I have the most beautiful, wishful, soulful eyes. I am a handsome and sweet 4-year-old boy, who been waiting too long for someone to choose me. I am a small and friendly Boxer-Pit mix in need of a foster or forever home. I was saved from a California shelter, and weigh about 51 lbs. I do well with my doggy neighbors at my current location, and have been a model citizen. I would love human companionship, since I welcome human attention and affection, and would love to go for walks, hikes or other outings. Can you open your home and heart to me? I really have waited too long for someone to choose me. Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Cricket, the petite white and gray boxer mix. Cricket came into the Shelter as an owner surrender. Cricket lived in a home with a woman and another dog. Her favorite things to do in the previous home are snuggle, play and run. Cricket is currently hanging out in a foster home to take a break from the Shelter and gain some confidence. Her foster reports: “Cricket is a wonderful, sweet dog. She is smart, a quick learner, and human-focused, On leash, she likes to walk in the city or on trails and generally doesn`t pull. She likes to play and have fun, and is able to settle and cuddle by your side. She notices other animals, especially dogs, but doesn`t act aggressively, more it seems like she wants to play. She sleeps well in a crate at night. Overall, she is a delight!”Due to some reported prey drive in her previous home, Cricket is required to go to a home without cats or small animals. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Ruby 💎 Ruby is an extremely sweet and loving girl. She loves her people so deeply and isn’t biased on who gets her love! A giant bucket of pure joy! She loves to chew her toys! Also has the endurance for short walks and loves to explore new things to sniff! But she takes a strong arm as she is learning to not pull still. Continuing training with her is ideal as she has some catching up to do! With proper introductions- she happily lives with dogs! She does get overwhelmed with young children so we think it’s best that kids are older. She is crate trained, potty trained and knows basic commands. The parts we know of her past is heartbreaking! She was rescued from the kill list at Devour Animal Shelter. She was obviously used as a breeder dog who had many litters with the c section scars to prove it! Her back leg muscles were weak and she had urine burns which means she didn’t get time out of a crate besides being bred. Due to her past, she takes time to trust that other dogs are her friends. Ruby has been vaccinated, microchipped and fixed! She is ready for her new home! Ruby is about 5 years old.
