Story
Meet Kama! Kama came into the Shelter after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring with her. Kama lived in a home with 3 year old and 11 year old children previously and did well. She is still perfecting house training so adopters should be patient in the transition and work with positive reinforcement based training to help her learn life skills and manners. When first arriving at the shelter, she was very shut down but she did open up after a period of time. Staff have observed that she is easy to handle all over and leans in for pets. In her previous home, her favorite activites were running, fetch, hikes and playing in the creek. Kama seems to be a bit undersocialized with dogs but is learning how to play and interact at the Shelter. She has befriended some pups (like Rocky the GSD) and may be open to living with one in her next home. Have a resident pup? Bring them along to meet to see if Kama and the pup hit it off. Kama enjoyed riding in the car in her previous home and is ready to be your passenger princess.Come on in to meet your new BFF today at 1001 Rodriguez Street, Santa Cruz from 11-6pm. All adoptions are first come, first serve in person at the Shelter, and must be completed before 4:45pm.

Story
HI - I'M MICKEY.... and I have the most beautiful, wishful, soulful eyes. I am a handsome and sweet 4-year-old boy, who been waiting too long for someone to choose me. I am a small and friendly Boxer-Pit mix in need of a foster or forever home. I was saved from a California shelter, and weigh about 51 lbs. I do well with my doggy neighbors at my current location, and have been a model citizen. I would love human companionship, since I welcome human attention and affection, and would love to go for walks, hikes or other outings. Can you open your home and heart to me? I really have waited too long for someone to choose me. Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Deebo, the boxer mix. This adolescent guy has been in the Shelter system for a couple months but is a gem of a dog just looking for a family to call his own. He recently spent a couple weeks in a foster home where we learned so much about him. His foster family included a couple, their resident pups of various ages and sizes and some dog-savvy kitties! Deebo’s foster parents report: “Deebo is a total gem, and you would be really lucky to have this sweet guy as your dog. He seems to be completely potty trained. He is a HIGH energy dog who will need lots of exercise and mental stimulation to keep him happy and calm. When he plays with humans, he is extremely gentle. But when he plays with dogs, he is a rough and tumble kind of guy so if you have a dog that dog would need to be ok with that kind of play or be dog savvy enough to communicate properly their boundaries with play. He is respectful when dogs properly communicate, they have had enough play time. Deebo is extremely sweet with cats but again the cats must be dog savvy enough to communicate their boundaries as Deebo does get quite excited to see them. Whoever adopts this special guy will be really lucky. He is such a gentle giant. Oh yeah, he can really snore too. Surprised the heck out of us it was pretty loud..”Come on in to meet your new BFF today at 1001 Rodriguez Street, Santa Cruz from 11-6pm. Story
Meet Bronco, the boxer mix! Bronco came to the Shelter a little apprehensive of the environment and people. After a few days, he warmed up and learned that Shelter staff and volunteers are good people. Although Bronco can be a little cautious with new people, he warms up and is social and sweet. Bronco enjoys his playdates with other Shelter pups. His Shelter friends include Ella the Samoyed mix. He does adorable playbows and then zooms around with his canine friends when out playing. A resident dog in the home may be a fit provided there is an initial meet and greet at the Shelter. We do not have any history of Bronco with cats or children. Bronco’s ideal home with include an adopter who will allow him to decompress and form a bond with them in the first few weeks after adoption. With time, patience and positive reinforcement based training - we anticipate this guy will be a great sidekick. Come on in to meet your new BFF today at 1001 Rodriguez Street, Santa Cruz from 11-6pm. All adoptions are first come, first serve in person at the Shelter, and must be completed before 4:45pm.

Story
Meet Ruby 💎 Ruby is an extremely sweet and loving girl. She loves her people so deeply and isn’t biased on who gets her love! A giant bucket of pure joy! She loves to chew her toys! Also has the endurance for short walks and loves to explore new things to sniff! But she takes a strong arm as she is learning to not pull still. Continuing training with her is ideal as she has some catching up to do! With proper introductions- she happily lives with dogs! She does get overwhelmed with young children so we think it’s best that kids are older. She is crate trained, potty trained and knows basic commands. The parts we know of her past is heartbreaking! She was rescued from the kill list at Devour Animal Shelter. She was obviously used as a breeder dog who had many litters with the c section scars to prove it! Her back leg muscles were weak and she had urine burns which means she didn’t get time out of a crate besides being bred. Due to her past, she takes time to trust that other dogs are her friends. Ruby has been vaccinated, microchipped and fixed! She is ready for her new home! Ruby is about 5 years old.

These pups are in Los Gatos, California too!

Story
Age is only a number. That's exactly how our sweet Senora Amy feels and acts! This sweet and lovely 7-year-young Pittie mix is Amy, another one of our recent euthanasia survivors. Amy luvs to go on walks but what she luvs even more is to just be with her foster pawrents. Our sweet Senora is also a big fan of sunbathing in the backyard, cuddling on the couch (or in bed), and going for car rides! She luvs car rides so much that her foster mom has to pick her up and take her out of the car. Amy has done well with her foster fur sibling thanks to the patience and dedicated work of her foster mom. We think with slow and proper introductions, Amy could coexist with another dog but would also thrive as the only dog in the family and the apple of your eye. Amy is great with her foster human sibling who's starting to crawl around! She Luvs to watch over her human sibling while her foster mom puts her to sleep. Amy can do well in a home with children with proper introductions or are dog experienced. Amy has not been cat-tested.

Story
Coco is an 8-year-young, sweet, people-loving Pittie mix. Sadly, this sweet Seniorita ended up at the shelter after her owner passed away. Thanks to our amazing community, we were able to save this brindle beauty the day she was set to be euthanized. Even though Coco has experienced significant loss and changes over the last few months, she has quickly and easily adapted to her new life and environment. Her foster shared with us - "she hasn't barked once since joining our home a little over 1 week ago, but she whimpers a bit when I leave for work. After realizing she was safe in her new home, she quickly warmed up to everyone, enjoys running around the backyard and playing with her ball. She happily sleeps next to you on the couch, snuggles up in bed, or peacefully chews a bone on the floor while I work. Our routine consists of sleeping in until around 8 - 9 am and then going outside to potty right away. Coco loves long walks and enjoys sniffing everything along the way. When other dogs approach, she sniffs and waits for their reaction, remaining nonreactive. She listens well, bathes easily, loves her food, and doesn't beg. Overall, she is very cuddly and well-behaved". If you're looking for a beautiful, sweet Seniorita who still has quite a bit of pep in her step, Coco's your gal! Located in Los Angeles.
