Story
Meet MJ! He is a 9yr old beagle/terrier mix. He was found as a stray in KY and ended up in a kill shelter...until we rescued him. He seems to get along with every other dog we have (incl puppies of all ages). He walks well on a leash once he gets over the excitement of being out with you. At only about 40 lbs, he is the perfect sized companion dog. MJ is very smart too and learned to sit for a treat & give his paw within 5mins. His aim is to please :) We find that he doesn't like to be without people in general but that's not to say that he likes all people and is definately picky about who he trusts. The ideal home would have someone around rather than leaving him for the workday and would have some dog training knowledge about how to handle a fear aggressive dog. We can no longer bring him to adoption events since many in the general public do not know how to read a dog's body language (he does give signs when he's uncomfortable). We would recommend a low-traffic household for sure because of the potential fear aggressive bite and someone with experience in dealing with this behavior. Our adoption fee is $325 and all of our pets come with full vet records.  All animals are up to date on vaccinations & dewormed.  Unless otherwise indicated, puppies are NOT spayed or neutered since our vet recommends waiting until 6mos of age to do so.  Please keep in mind we are a Rescue Group and most of our pups come to us with little or no background info regarding breed, eventual size, age or prior health issues. We rely on the expertise of our veterinarians and make estimates based on past experience. Also, when you're adopting from a Rescue, you should ask questions! You should always get shot/medication records and the rescue should have had the dog for a bit of time to check for disease. Take the time to educate yourself before adopting. A reputable rescue will have nothing to hide and will answer ALL your questions!!!Please visit our Web Site to see all of the pets we have for adoption. Our site contains information about our adoption process and fees, our application, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please read it carefully before contacting us. If you are interested in adopting THIS wonderful pet, we strongly encourage you to complete our adoption application now. Once we receive and approve your application, we will notify you of approval. The first application to be received and approved will get 1st choice - be sure that your references are available and willing to speak with us. Thank You Visit us at one of our next adoption days.  Details are on our site under the "How to Adopt" tab. Hope to see you there!October 13, 2024, 12:21 am

Story
NOTE:  If you are seeing this posting, she's still available :) Meet Trixie!  We were told she was born on 1/11/22.  Her mom looked to be a boston terrier mix. Trix is tipping the scales at 25lbs and is lean because she's always on the go given her age. Trixie is a very sweet girl, who just needs some basic training.  Her fosterhome has a fenced yard and since she has had minimal leash training, that works best at the moment.  She needs routine & some manners to be the perfect family pet.  Trix is up to date on all of her vaccines, is spayed and was tested for HW and tick borne diseases - all were neg.  She has the shiniest sleek black coat we've ever seen on a pup before!  She's very treat motivated and when it comes to taking commands, she's all ears LOL  Her friends are a group of adult dogs as well as a couple of young shepherd mixes that are double her size also with us.  Trixie's favorite game is fetch & she actually brings the ball back to you! Recent small breed experience is a must since they're just not for everyone & definitely not for the 1st time dog owner.  This girl would NOT do well in a city environment, so we're seeking a more rural home since that's all she knows.  If you have the time and patience to train a pup, please visit our site at endingthesadness.org & fill out an application to be considered.  Adopters must be no more than 2hrs driving distance from us.  Only older children in the home, please.November 20, 2024, 3:06 pm

Story
This funny girl was found in the median of the highway one morning on the way to Transport. She was running up and down the road like many dogs We see here that have been abandoned. I have searched all over for her family because I know she had one at one time. I have had no luck. Monkey is a very funny very sweet, friendly girl. She is probably a year old and maybe has some French bulldog. She is confident and loves to go for walks and rides. She loves everyone she meets and would love to be back in a home. Story
Meet Kylie! Another shy but sweet natured Boston Terrier who spent her life in a cage in a puppy mill. Humans are scary, but her whole body wiggles and she comes alive as soon as she sees another dog, and we know living with other friendly dogs will help her come out of her shell. Everything about a normal home is new to her- walking on leash, playing with toys, housebreaking, having a name, being held and petted… she’s experienced none of that these past 2ish years as she was born and grew up in a mill, her doggie friends her only source of comfort. Kylie is looking for a calmer adult home understanding of puppy mill survivor behaviors and fears that will give her time to adjust and open up at her pace. She’s not shown any aggression, all flight and no fight, and will need extra precautions to make sure she never has a chance to get loose or bolt. MUST have at least one other compatible doggie buddy to live with- she would be miserable and terrified without canine companionship no matter how much human affection she gets. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet Kylie in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
