MIRA IS BEING FOSTERED IN GARY IN OH SWEET MIRA!  This darling little girlie is is just 8lbs and was born on 10/16/2024 ish.  At just 8 weeks old, she and he 2 brother littler mates were found on the side of the road dumped in rural Missouri. :(. These border collie babies are SUPER smart already and are already tracking things visually with their eyes to herd. Full grown Border Collies are usually 30-55lbs.  Mira is being fostered with a 2 legged toddler, cats and other dogs.  She does great with everyone!  She is still such a baby that she is being exposted to the Rule of 12s in her foster home and that socialization tactic will need to continue in her forever home.  Mira is doing GREAT with potty training and crate training!  She will need to stay on a schedule to be successful in her forever home.   This little smartie pants will want a job when she grows up!  If you have never had a border collie or a working dog before, we recommend doing a little research before committing to this high energy working breed!  She will need a MINIMUM of 2-3 hours of exercise throughout the day.  She will also need someone home more than not at the beginning so she can potty train and she is still too young to be left alone for too long. Mira is up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, is microchipped, dewormed and on monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2250508##

Story
Know anyone who is looking for a belly rub lovin' best friend? Layla is ready for her forever home! Layla came to MWBCR as a stray from rural Iowa. She is a high energy freight train on four legs, but is totally content to be a couch potato, as long as she gets enough exercise throughout the day. Her foster mom currently ensures she gets two or three 30-minute exercise breaks per day - her very favorite workout is chasing the spray from a garden hose! Still a bit shy around new people, Layla does make fast friends after a short visit and some high-value treats. She loves belly rubs and booty scritches and will smooch her foster mom repeatedly as a thank you. She is a big snuggler, but often on her own terms. When she's not lounging on the sofa, she does have a very strong herding drive (hence her love of the garden hose spray). She runs circles around other dogs and people and will sometimes muzzle punch your leg to get you to do something… especially to throw a ball. She does sometimes do the typical herding "nip," but has never bitten. Layla is house-trained but may have an occasional (rare) accident, which is understandable for a dog that may have lived exclusively outside before being rescued. While she definitely prefers to be out and with her people for most of the day, she does settle nicely into her crate and will sleep 7-8 hours through the night in it. She would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time. She also does great in a hard-sided crate for car travel after she's had a good game of fetch or chasing the hose. One of Layla's biggest victories in her foster home has been her progress with the vet. When she first came into rescue, she was terrified and aggressive at the clinic, and she could not be seen without heavy sedation. Her foster mom has been taking her in for "happy visits" once a week for many months and she now happily trots in to accept snacks and praise from the staff. This has shown us that with a little work, she can definitely overcome fear of new places. Prior border collie or working/herding experience is required to adopt Layla, as this special girl definitely needs a home with a job, a solid understanding of the breed, and lots of patience. A fenced yard is preferred, but a family who makes the commitment to visiting a private park or other secure space for playtime may be considered. As a note, we very much know she will not be a good fit for a family with other smaller pets or young children. After proper introductions, she would probably do fine with a larger dog that can tolerate her herding tendencies. Like any new rescue, Layla would benefit greatly from time with a behavioral trainer, especially to work on her leash skills. She's a very strong girl who is reactive to moving vehicles, people, and animals. Layla has made incredible strides in her foster home and we know she will thrive with a forever family dedicated to helping her be her best self. Location & Contact Location: Southeast Wisconsin Contact: team@midwestbordercollierescue.org Location & Contact Visit our site for more info https://www.mwbcr.org/alldogs Location: Southeast Wisconsin Contact: team@midwestbordercollierescue.org

Story
Laika is 36 lbs and 3-4 years old. This sweet girl loves chasing and often retrieving balls in the house and outdoors. She loves to sniff around off-leash in a fenced back yard. Turn on your garden sprinkler and she will be entertained and exercised. Laika initiates belly runs and gives kisses to her foster mom as a thank you. Laika is more dominant than Layla and has a strong herding drive, so we recommend a home with no children, cats or small critters. She's a little nervous meeting new people and dogs, which we are working on. Laika is spayed and fully vaccinated. She will need a fenced yard and an experienced handler with a strong understanding of the breed and a willingness to provide lots of exercise and tennis balls. Story
About Me: Name: Nubbins, Newt, Niblet Breed (or best guess): Border Collie/Farm Dog type Approximate Age: 6-7 months Gender: Male Approximate Weight: around 30 lb Dec 2024 Adoption Fee: $500 each Requirements: Loving and patient family Why In Rescue: Owner/farm breeder surrender Newt and Niblet are still waiting for homes and are getting better at walking on a leash every day.  Newt is a very playful and loving guy who is hoping he finds a home soon. Profile:  These three brothers were surrendered by an Amish farmer when they couldn't find homes for them after their farm dog had a litter of pups.  They were shy a first but are becoming more social all the time.  They have never lived in a home, they came from the farm to the shelter, so will need time and patience as they learn about housetraining, walking on a leash, and all the other things all pups need to learn.  All the adult dogs on the farm were sweet and social and these babies are ready to break out of the shelter to show how great they are too!  They have been neutered, microchipped, started on their Distemper/Parvo vaccines, Rabies vaccinated, and started on dewormer as well as heartworm/flea/tick preventative.  Apply for them now and come pick your favorite! We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $495 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $75 (up to $230 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $75 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS December 15, 2024, 11:28 pm
