You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!Image growing up in a yard with a human throwing you food over a fence and pouring water in your already dirty water day after day.  The human never touched you or the other three dogs in the yard and you lived outside like this summer, winter spring and fall until finally 8 years into your life someone reported your owner to the authorities and they finally came to save you!  You found yourself placed in a box separate from the only friends you had ever known.  Taken to a noisy shelter, poked, probed, bathed and then stuck in a kennel alone.  WOW SCARY right???  Well that was the experience for Max's, his best friend Moose and his 2 other fur buddies.  Unfortunately the oldest of the 4 was quite ill and passed away :(   The other one was adopted and seems to be doing well.  Max's was very shut down until the shelter staff placed him with Moose and then they saw Max's come back to life!   We couldn't allow Max's to lose the only friend he has ever had on this earth so we are taking both boys and they will only be adopted as a bonded pair with a contract signed that they will NOT be separated!! Max's & Moose will have to learn to live in a home, walk on a leash and understand what it is like to be valued and actually LOVED by a human.  If you would like to be considered for the boys please fill out an adoption application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!October 14, 2024, 6:08 pm

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.1/22/25 Processed and approved an app on Lucy Luna, but they’ve ghosted us. Please share!!! Lucy Luna will be graduating Paws in Prison very soon and needs a home to go to. She will be fully trained and able to pass the Canine Good Citizen test upon graduating. She is doing well with her training! She is 9-10 months old, energetic, fun loving, easy to train girl. Great with kids as well as other dogs. Not a good candidate with cats- she plays too rough. Came to us when owners could no longer keep her due to allergies in the home. She is everything you could want- friendly, excellent with kids, loves to play with other dogs, house trained, crate trained, loving, playful, great car rider, fully vetted, about 40 lbs. There is nothing but good things to say about this beautiful girl. And those eyes! The only thing better than her beautiful eyes is those spectacular ears! Don't miss out on this little gem! She checks all the boxes! We do not know her breed, maybe Border Collie mix? She is spayed, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. PLEASE SHARE! We just want her, and our other 3 currently at Paws in Prison (Jenga, Harley, Athena), to find homes. We don't know what more to do, to get dogs adopted. It's incredibly depressing to see such loving, social, well behaved dogs continue being unwanted. We are open to ideas and suggestions. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. 1/26/25 Meet Mocha! She is about 11 weeks old (estimated DOB 11/10/2024). She currently weighs 15.5 pounds. She is an adorable pup! She is a sweet, smart puppy. Great with other dogs and cats.  Her foster mom says Mocha is crazy but sweet!     Her mom is a mixed breed, maybe Lab/Shepherd mix? Mocha appears to have Border Collie mixed in. Mocha is most likely very mixed. Her mom  is about 40 pounds. We do not know who/what dad was. She is up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, spayed, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.   Mocha is one of 7 pups. It's quite a story of how Mocha and her siblings came into rescue. Our amazing rescue director, Kelley, was out running errands about a month ago. She was traveling a very busy highway when she saw a dog on the side of the road who had clearly had puppies recently. She tried to get the dog to come to her with no luck. She went and bought dog food and went back to the area where she'd seen the Mama dog and left it for her. In the meantime, Kelley had posted about seeing the Mama. Later on, someone reported they'd seen the mama on the side of the road, deceased. Long story short, that turned out not to be true (maybe it was a deer deceased on the side of the road?). Someone alerted us where they thought mama lived. It was cold out that night and Kelley was so worried wondering where the mama and her pups were, if they had shelter etc. So, Kelley did what she always does and headed out late Saturday night with a friend to go find mama and pups. She went to the area she was told she might live. It was not a very safe area, but Kelley went anyway. There were several campers all parked in this area. Kelley knocked on a few doors and nobody knew the dog. So she went searching through the woods, nothing. The food she'd left hadn't been touched. After searching for awhile, she went back to the campers and ended up finding the owner of the mama. There she with 7 pups in a dog house. Thankfully the owner let Kelley take mama and all the pups. One of our wonderful foster families took them in and the rest is history.   In New England    To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions. Story
I'm honestly really sad to let him go.. Due to a divorce and neither party having a place to keep him I am looking for a good home for him. He has received all his necessary shots up to this point only thing is he is not neutered. He is the epitome of a family dog. Happy, loving, AMAZING with kids, gentle and a bit of a cuddler, doesn't lick, to his credit doesn't really steal food (ive caught him a few times lol). He is already house trained but he could probably use some more leash training (he's quick study, has been with everything). He sits, he lays, he gives paws. He really is everything I wanted in a dog.. Like I said he is free, I'm not looking to make money off him I just want to make sure he has a good home. There is a caveat to this though, due to what was happening in our household we never got around to building a fence since the house is going to be sold now. Whoever wants him I just ask you have a fenced in yard for him to freely run. (xxx) xxx-xxxx .

Story
Sadie is approximately 4 month old Border Collie Mix. She is sweet, smart, an eager student and faster leaner. Her foster family has 3 other dogs that she loves to play and snuggle with. Sadie is newly house trained and needs someone committed to her puppy training, socializing and exercise. She does great with kids and learned sit and down quickly. She loves to learn and please. She bonded fast with her fosters and will adapt quickly to a new environment. Her fosters feel she would thrive in agility and obedience training or with a family committed to an energetic, affectionate, attentive breed.

Story
We rescued Max from a horse show last winter. He gets along great with our cat and older Labradors (after they established a relationship). My husband was diagnosed with stage 3 mouth cancer and is going through radiation treatments now. We have not been able to give Max the active and stimulating household he deserves since then. This was never our plan and he is truly loved. We feel what is best for him is land to run and owners that have time to exercise with him daily. He gets along great with our kids 5 and 2.
