Story
Meet Falafel, the sweetest pup you'll ever encounter! This cuddly companion has a heart of gold and an insatiable love for snuggles. Whether it's curling up on your chest or basking in the warmth of a cozy blanket, Falafel knows how to make every moment feel special. Her favorite pastime? Belly rubs, of course! With her tail wagging in delight, she'll happily roll over, inviting you to shower her with affection. And let’s not forget her love for treats—this little foodie is always ready to earn a tasty reward. With Falafel by your side, every day is filled with joy, laughter, and endless love. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.   November 5, 2024, 10:18 pm

Story
Murphy is a young energetic boy that would do wonderful in a family that is active. He enjoyed walking on the trails here at the shelter but said no thank you when it came to the bridge. There’s no doubt with a little work and confidence building this will be an easy fix. He takes treats nicely from hand and enjoyed the hugs and kisses. If you would like to meet this young boy the shelter can be reached at 937-498-7201 to schedule a meet. Lobby hours are Monday –Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9-12. Open kennel hours are Monday- Friday 12-4 with Saturday by appointment.

Story
My wife and I adopted Ricky from a family friend. Dad is a purebred border collie, and Mom is a purebred American pitbull. We were looking for a younger friend for our one dog to keep her active. After having two kids (a 2-year-old daughter and a 2-month-old son), making sure Ricky gets time to play and keeping up with cleaning has become too much for us. Ricky is a very loving dog and loves to play. He needs playtime and affection, but our children are not big enough to play with him. He doesn't know his own size and thinks that everybody loves "kisses." Which doesn't work well with a toddler and an infant. It's really hard for us to ask for someone to adopt him because he has been such a great pet, but we worry for the safety of our children due to his size and lack of knowing how big he is. He likes to play rough and needs a home where he has space to run around and play with other animals. He has never nipped or bit at our children or other people. Willing to pay to re-home.

Story
Pretty is a pure bred shorthaired border collie, 2 years old. She is strong, gentle, affectionate. She desires to be obedient, listens and learns well, but had not been properly trained and may have some habits in need of correction. She has a strong a strong herding instinct, so she could make a good working farm dog. She is bold, but afraid of loud sudden noises such a thunder, fireworks, and gun shots, from which she seeks shelter or barks with concern at the sky. She would be a wonderful companion or family pet regardless. She has lived outside full time.  She gets along well with our four boys, ages 9–15, as well neighboring kids and adults. She has no fear of strangers and is friendly with everyone. Ideally, a new home would offer lots of outdoor time and space like she is accustomed to. She could live indoors with outside time, but may not be compatible with smaller pets because of her strong prey drive, and will need to be house trained. She is familiar with basic commands such as her name, come, sit, lie down, wait, and thank you (break word), yet she will need reinforcement training. Story
Space is a 9 month old medium size dog. She loves other dogs and has done well with cats. Space needs a special adopter that will give her time to realize people aren’t so scary. She has made a TON of progress at her foster home but is still very timid at times. She gets SO excited to see you after work but still only wants to be pet on her own terms. She will do best in a home with no children, another dog to help build her confidence, and her own yard, as she is not leash trained. She is very fearful of the leash, leading us to believe she may have had a traumatic experience involving a leash before coming to HART. This dog absolutely loves to be comfy. All she wants is a comfortable bed or to curl up by your feet on the couch. If you’re looking for a playmate for your dog that does not beg for constant attention or a friend to keep your dog busy while you’re at work, Space could be a great choice for you. If interested in meeting Space please fill out an application at www.rescueahart.org!
