Chili is a beautiful 4-year old (possible) Border Collie/Whippet mix who was brought to HSOV on November 5, 2024 after she was found in Marietta Ohio. Chili was quite visibly pregnant when she entered our shelter and our compassionate HSOV staff kept a close watchful eye on her since it seemed that she would likely give birth in the next few days. Chili was taken to one of our wonderful local veterinarians on November 11th since she hadn’t given birth on her own, and she underwent a Cesarean Section. Chili gave birth to 11 premature puppies and, in spite of heroic efforts by everyone involved, none of the babies survived ☹ Chili was spayed while she was under anesthesia and returned to HSOV a few days later where she followed doctor’s orders (bed rest/relaxation and no strenuous activity) and remained in a quiet room of her own. Chili has a black-and-white short smooth coat, black freckles/ticking on her front legs, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a slender muzzle, and large semi-erect/horizontal ears. Chili has a sweet, outgoing personality. This collection of photos were taken on December 16, 2024. Chili is very photogenic so it's difficult not to get carried away when she is posing. Chili was a good sport about wearing Christmas costumes when she was "rockin' around the HSOV Christmas tree" on December 16th with HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Lynn Moore... With the exception of not being thrilled about the hooded snowman suit. Chili loves her people friends but is a bit selective about which dogs she accepts into her circle of friends (and she is a bit jealous of other dogs when it comes to receiving attention). Chili loves to snuggle on the shelter sofa when she is treated to social outings in the lobby . Chili weighs approximately 60 lbs and is fairly energetic. She loves to jump on her human friends for attention and may unintentionally knock small/young children down. This gorgeous empty-nester is ready to find a loving home of her very own.

This collection of photos were taken during the month of November 2024 beginning with the first day we had the pleasure of meeting Chili on November 5th and HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver accompanied her for photos in the HSOV lobby. The second set of photos were taken on November 7th when Chili was in her spacious 'maternity ward' near the hallway/lobby of our shelter. Chili looked so beautiful that day relaxing on a bright red-and-black plaid blanket. The last set of photos were taken on November 17th when Chili was recuperating from the loss of her puppies. HSOV Volunteer Emma Dahlgren had Chili outdoors that afternoon to spend some time in the sunshine/fresh air .. And Chili was showered with attention from Emma. This sweet boy was one of the brightest kids in The DASH Prison Training Program where he brushed up on his house manners before he went to his current foster home. His foster mom said he's such a cuddle bug! In the program, he did well learning to walk on a leash and did not complain about being in his crate but would much rather be out snuggling with his people. He worked on "sit, down, stay, wait, & leave it." (Of course, continued work on these commands will keep him perfect)! His handler said he is very intelligent, attentive, affectionate, and has become comfortable enough to snore in his sleep. Axton is a social boy, who seems to love all people, as well as other dogs! Axton also likes his toys and playing in water. He is energetic at play time but also loves when it's time to chill out. Axton did so well and consistent with practicing his basic commands, he moved on to tricks - He was learning to speak! He is ready for his new family. Meet PONZI! 🐾 Ponzi through no fault of his own find his little cute self on a euthanasia list in a small rural shelter due to lack of space. We could not let that happen and he is ever grateful.
