Story
My name is Heppa and I am a black & white border collie/mix. I am a spayed female and I am 1 year old. I am here because my owner had too many dogs on their property. I was a mom to five puppies. I was surrendered with all my puppies. I`m so sad, because everyone adopted my puppies and left me behind. A few people even considered adopting me, but once they met my babies, they chose them over me. Now that my babies have been adopted, I`m READY to go to my forever home!I am potty trained (yay) and I can handle being left in a crate when my owner needs to leave me. I am a medium energy dog and I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience. I have learned `sit` and do well with basic hand gestures (pointing down to tell me to get down from something, patting your knee to get me to come over) but I would still benefit from simple obedience training to help us bond and for us to learn how to communicate with each other. I do not do well with children, they are scary to me! I can be good with other dogs with a proper introduction, and I cannot live with cats - I think they are something to chase!

Story
- Kind, sweet and loves to play - Loves all toys, but especially balls; would play fetch all day long if he could - Has great focus while playing and may enjoy activities like agility courses - Has done well in the car - lays down calmly and takes a nap - Foster family says he has a great vocabulary and seems to know his name and what to do when he's asked to go to his kennel; knows sit and is great at sitting patiently while you put his food bowl down or open his kennel door - Will need structure and patience with housetraining, so please plan on working with him on that; has made some progress in his foster home but will benefit from additional work with his new family - Loves to play and explore all the time, so will do well with a family who can match his energy - Has enjoyed playing with another dog in his foster home - Has been near cats and seemed generally uninterested, but has not actually interacted with cats while in our care All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 37 Age: 2yrs 0mths 2wks

Story
I'm a college graduate! I spent 10 weeks at MSU training with the students there in the DARR School of Agriculture in their Companion Animal Program. I was already a sweet girl, but now I’m trained and really ready to be the best girl ever for a new family. Won’t you give me a chance? Hi, I'm Gabi! I'm a Border Collie/Heeler/German Shepherd mix! I'm very sweet and affectionate and I am looking for a home that can keep up with me.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis, MO. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas.  All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2488927##

Story
Meet Nymera! 🐺 Her name, Nymera, means “noble” — a fitting name for such a strong and graceful soul. (It’s pronounced nih-MEER-ee-uh.) This gorgeous girl was found stray near the border of Mexico, and the moment her rescuer opened the car door, she hopped right in as if she knew her new life was about to begin. Nymera is about 1 year old, weighs 30 pounds, and is a Border Collie mix with a heart as big as her smile. She’s affectionate, intelligent, and social — she loves everyone she meets and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She has that classic Border Collie sparkle — alert, eager to please, and full of gentle energy — but what makes her truly special is her sweet, trusting nature after all she’s been through. ✨ Nymera is ready to lead her own happily-ever-after — could it be with you?

These pups are in Ames, Iowa too!

Story
Do you like cuddling? Going for solitary household walks in nature? Being active for about twenty minutes of robust playtime around 4:00 in the afternoon? Summer is a calm snoozy dog throughout the day. If you work from home, she’ll most likely choose to sleep nearby. She loves a walk and sniff, and a good romp and play for a little each day. She’ll chase a stuffed toy, attempt to catch a snowball, and do excited zoomies in the yard if you give a toy a toss. But her real love is a good cuddle, so set yourself up with a blanket on your lap with a spot just for her and she’ll curl right in like a muffin, and give you reproachful looks when you dare to stop the pets. Summer needs an adults only, no other tankless pets home. She is dog reactive, and reactive with strangers in her home. Her current home has a 1 year old ever increasingly mobile baby, it is no longer a safe place for either of them. Contact us for more info. (715-817-6896) We want the best for her.
