Meet Benji, a tiny ball of wiggles and love!
If you're looking for a playful, loving puppy with a heart of gold, then look no further than little Benji! At just 7 weeks old and a tiny 5 lbs, this little guy is a bundle of joy, puppy energy, curiosity, and pure sweetness. He was found wandering the streets as a stray – just imagine this precious 5 lb baby all alone, with nothing but his big heart to guide him. After being picked up and brought to a shelter, his future was looking grim. With the shelter at capacity and a small scrape on his cheek, Benji was immediately at risk of being euthanized.
Fortunately, we couldn’t bear the thought of this sweet baby being put down, so when our Texas rescue partners urgently reached out, we jumped into action. With only an hour to spare, we rushed to get Benji out of the shelter and into a loving foster home, where he is now safe and awaiting his ride to Colorado to find his forever family.
Benji is believed to be a Border Collie mix, though it's hard to know for sure at this young age. He is expected to be around 35 lbs when fully grown, making him the perfect size for someone looking for a small/medium, yet sturdy companion. What we do know for sure is that Benji is absolutely adorable, incredibly affectionate, and full of puppy potential!
Since Benji is still a puppy, he’s a blank slate – ready and eager to learn! He’ll thrive in a home where he can receive the time, love, and training necessary to help him become the well-behaved, confident adult dog he's destined to be. With the right guidance, including puppy kindergarten and positive reinforcement training, Benji will blossom into an amazing companion who will form deep bonds with his family.
Benji needs a family who can invest in his training and socialization as he grows. He’ll need positive, force-free obedience classes (virtual or in-person) to set him up for success and to ensure he’s a happy, well-behaved pup that can go on adventures and be a joy to have by your side. This kind of commitment pays off tenfold when you have a dog who is not only well-behaved but also an absolute joy to be around.
Training is an adoption requirement of ours, and we are not open to adopting to a home who doesn't have desire to train a new puppy.
Benji will be up to date on his vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. However, he will still need 1 more parvo/distemper vaccines before it is safe for him to walk on public ground.
Extensive new research shows that he is far too young to be neutered at this time. Neuter is required to be done before he turns 1 year old (7-8 months of age is recommended) and neuter is required to finalize any adoption.
Farfel's Rescue covers the full cost of his neuter if our rescue vet is used.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet dog! An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE**. If you're truly interested in adopting Alfie please be sure to submit the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com. Rescue site applications such as Petfinder or Adoptapet don't provide enough information for us to determine a great match for this very deserving dog and therefore aren't useful. We're sorry, but in many circumstances, we're unable to get back to those those that don't submit a Farfel's adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue!
