Hello, I'm Kylie. I'm a 4 year old Lab/Cur mix (best guess that is). I came to the shelter with my sister Kendall. We were found as strays and were pretty skinny. Luckily, the shelter got us cleaned up and our bellies full! I'd like to stay with Kendall if I can, but understand adopting two dogs at once can be a lot for some people. If I'm not adopted with Kendall, the shelter recommends me going to a home with another dog companion as I have a little bit of anxiety. I'm a sweet girl but can be shy at first. I do well with other dogs and would be a great addition to your family. I am heartworm positive and in the process of heartworm treatment. I've had my first injection and will need an adopter who can continue my heartworm treatment protocol and take me to my appointments. PCHS will pay for the treatment even after adoption. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! Our situation has changed so we have to find Thor a new home. He is a great dog! He usually matches the energy of the owner. If you are relaxing and watching tv, he will do the same. If you want to go out and throw a ball or frisbee, he will do that for as long as you are willing. He has great recall, I don’t have to keep him on a leash in a safe place (like a dog park). He likes to run and play, but will always comes when called.He is very friendly and always been great with other dogs. He seeks attention from the caregiver. He is also Kid friendly, I have an 10, 7 and 2 year old that he is gentle with.

We are looking for a new home for Gracie, our loyal and loving 6-year-old medium-sized dog with significant reactivity issues. She loves food, running and playing in the backyard, and long snuggles on the couch. We have had her for over five years. She is afraid of and aggressive toward strangers and is slow to adjust to new people (ranging from a few hours to many days or weeks; faster with women) but becomes fiercely loyal and affectionate with time. She had never gotten along particularly well with most other dogs, but she and our other dog tolerated each other until recently, when she began snapping at and getting into severe fights with our other dog. Given these risks, she should not go to a home with other animals. She was initially nervous around our newborn child but became very patient and tolerant of that now toddler-aged child. Still, we would not consider her kid friendly given her reactivity and do not recommend families with young children adopt her.
