Story
Meet Luxi! DOB Aug 14, 2019 This darling is a 5 yr female Bichon/Mini Poodle mix who joined us after being surrendered by a commercial breeder. Her new name is inspired by “Lux” meaning illumination, which she will now have in her new life Luxi has now been spayed and is UTD on all of her vetting including bloodwork, vaccinations, microchip, dewormed and flea/tick/heartworm tested negative Read more about Luxi from her foster family's notes below: Your foster dog's energy level: Low-Medium Please elaborate on your foster dog's daily routine for exercise, training etc Multiple Daily walks for 15-30 minutes each outing Play fetch with toys, work on training etc Is your foster dog food motivated? Not the most food motivated dog, 3/5 food motivated. Very human attention motivated, 5/5. Good with dogs both in their home environment as well as meeting new dogs? Please detail Good with dogs at home, shows little interests in other dogs Timid at first with new dogs, gets comfortable after 5 mins No dog reactivity How does your foster dog respond to meeting new people in their home environment and outside of the home? Timid at first, barks to alert and tends to avoid. Gets comfortable after a while inside and outside of the home. Good with cats? N/A-no cats in foster home No prey drive with rabbits/squirrels so should be good with cats, probably no interests. Any guarding behaviours noted incl guarding food/treats, people or furniture/valued spaces? If so, how is it managed? No guarding behaviours. Housetrained? Yes Crate trained? Yes Please elaborate on your foster dog's behavior in the crate. Sleeps inside crate overnight outside of our bedroom fine. If we leave her in the crate when we leave the house, she will feel a little anxious. If we are inside the house, and we crate her, assuming all other needs are met, she will enjoy the chew in the crate. I leave my foster dog alone for 1 hour per day. Does your foster dog show signs of separation anxiety? Yes Please elaborate. Rarely we have to leave her at the house for longer than 1 hour, and she would bark out of frustration when we leave. But the anxiety is getting better each day with trust building up. Please elaborate on your foster dog's leash skills. Very good on leash. Loose leash walking, no pull, follows people and always checks on us. How does your foster dog react when you touch the ears, tail, paws etc. Please elaborate. No sensitivity. Can groom easily at home and she even falls asleep during grooming. How would you describe the dog's personality/temperament Mild, gentle, quiet, cuddly and loving. Things needing improvement specifics please needs more work on crate training and separation anxiety but is improving consistently. Medical concerns? Motion sickness. lots of drooling as soon as she's in car, and even vomiting for longer car trips (> 1 hour) Cerennia tablets may help Minor tooth tip broken on tooth tip of 304, monitor on future exams, no dental needed at this time Potty habits: Prefers to do her business during walks vs when out in the yard with us so her new family must be committed to consistently walking her . Skills/Commands Sit? Yes Stay? No Wait? No Lay Down? Yes Leave It? No Off? No Down? Yes Come? No Strengths/areas they have improved on: Luxi has really improved on her socialization and trust with humans. She now loves to cuddle with us. She's also really improved on getting used to living in a house and new environments. Before, she was reluctant to go through doors and narrow spaces. she also wouldn't go up or down stairs. Now she's happily cruising around the house and able to navigate doors and stairs with little hesitation. Transportation-any motion sickness or anxiety in vehicles? Yes, motion sickness in vehicle. She drools and even vomits for long rides. We have tried a homeopathic remedy with little success so now trying Cerennia , anti nausea medication. This often improves in dogs as they become more adapted to travel after living in a breeding facility Please describe the perfect adoptive home for your foster dog based on what you have experienced. A quieter household with someone who is home most of the day and willing to leash walk her for potty breaks. Anything to add? She is super sweet and adorable. She is a lil priceless princess!
