Story
Meet Flossi: Bichon Frise female, spayed, 7yrs young Introducing Flossi! She is a precious, shy 7yrs young Bichon Frise female who was surrendered to our rescue by a commercial breeder when they retired her from their breeding program Current weight 13lbs, Flossi is a wee girl who is still learning that humans can be kind and safe and provide TLC and patience, after her previous life was certainly not kind to her. View more photos and videos in her album here https://tinyurl.com/Flossi-album Flossi is still cautiously exploring her world and slowing blossoming to learn to trust people and be more brave in new environments. She requires a patient, calm family whom will allow her to come to you as her confidence grows, and to work with her socialization with love and kindness. MANDATORY for her new forever home *Fully fenced yard/full supervision in person during outside time. Flossi is too timid to walk on leash yet She cannot be put out on a tie out nor live in a home with a dog door or unfenced pool. * Mandatory to have another gentle dog in her new home to help her confidence and companionship needs Flossi is being fostered with two other small breed dogs and two cats, she is fine with them but she would not appreciate a dog who is in her face or pawing at her etc. * Flossi requires a home without children due to her timid nature *Due to her breed life expectancy of up to 16yrs, she is not a suitable match for older seniors. Our goal for every dog is to be able to live a full life in their forever home without ever having to be rehomed. Flossi has now been spayed, microchipped, had her bloodwork done, negative for heartworm and all tick diseases, and up to date on her vaccinations. Flea/tick prevention and fecal tested negative for parasites Flossi has also completed her dental cleaning and removal of any decayed teeth Notes from Flossi's foster: Energy level: low to moderate She always wakes up between 7:30 and 7:45 every day. We get up , she goes into the Livingroom – pee pads are here. While we make every effort to housetrain the dogs in our care, Flossi is still learning and due to her timid nature, she has pee pads as an option to help direct her to appropriate areas until she is able to be harnessed for outside potty breaks throughout each day. Has breakfast, small nap or runs around, we go outside weather permitting, treats, afternoon is a game lick pad, puzzle, out a few more times always with harness and leash, supper, outside again then bed, She sleeps through the night Is your foster dog food motivated? very She has been very good with my 2 dogs and 2 cats from the start How does your foster dog respond to meeting new people in their home environment and outside of the home? She gets spooked and hides but then peeks around the corner and comes part way to check them out. Good with cats? very Any guarding behaviours -none but she tends to try to steal treats from the other 2. They let her Housetrained? No Crate trained? Yes-will tolerate sleeping in it but wants out by 7 am. Barks and howls if she isn’t let out Flossi does much better being alone if she has the other dogs for companionship. If the dogs and I are not there she barks after about 2 min. No problems if I am out and she has the dogs for company. She is fine being left uncrated while I am gone, using baby gates to limit access to just the living and diningrooms. Flossi cannot do stairs yet. Leash skills: Flossi is not yet confident enough for walks. When we go out to the patio, she is harnessed and leashed but more focused on keeping away from me She cannot be let out into the yard without harness/leash as you would not be able to catch her to bring her back inside How does she respond to handling/grooming: Once I coral her and pick her up there is no issue touching petting etc, she gets spooked if you try otherwise. This is getting better slightly easier to be able to pick her up as she learns to feel safer. Current personality/temperament Laid back, calm but always ready to react to movement by avoidance I believe she has the potential to be a loving cuddle bug with the right family who will be patient and earn her trust. Flossi is currently being treated for an ear infection which is improving with daily cleaning and medicated treatments. Potty habits: on pee pads most of the time She doesn’t respond to commands yet but will come if you call her and hold your hand out with a treat. Please describe current routines and preferences that will help the dog settle into their new home: Right now, she is too fearful for training and moving to a permanent home could cause more anxiety. She requires a family whom is experienced with timid dogs and allows her to come around on her own time Strengths/areas they have improved on: confidence in voicing her wants - lets me know meals are late Transportation-any motion sickness or anxiety in vehicles? Flossi is a very good traveller crated All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit. We do not allow applicants to meet dogs until pre-approved for adoptions since they are living in private family homes. Please note that only those whom we feel are an ideal match will be contacted to move to the next steps of our application screening process *Must be located within Ontario Canada *Inground/ground level Pools and deeper ponds must be separately fenced from yard Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario. Story
Meet Hey, a one-year-old spayed female Poodle-Bichon mix with a soft cream coat and a heart ready to bloom. Weighing in at just 5kg, Hey was rescued from a breeding facility in Geoje and has come a long way since. Once fearful of people and unsure of human touch, she’s now blossoming with those who take the time to earn his trust. These days, she’ll happily take treats from your hand and even trot over to say hello once she feels comfortable. While she might run off when you try to pick her up, she doesn’t resist once he’s in your arms—she settles in calmly, making her a gentle cuddle buddy. She’s also wonderfully behaved for grooming and bath time. Hey is a total social butterfly when it comes to other dogs. She loves meeting new canine friends, no matter their size, and will often approach them with friendly tail wags and an invitation to play. Having another dog in the home would be a huge help in her adjustment to family life, especially since she’s never known life without doggy companionship. She hasn’t been tested with cats yet, but based on her easy-going nature, she may very well be able to live peacefully with feline friends too. With a moderate energy level, Hey enjoys the outdoors but knows how to relax and recharge afterwards. She’s currently learning how to walk on a leash—right now, she tends to freeze up when it’s clipped on, so she’ll need some patient guidance. She’s not possessive with food, whether it’s around people or other dogs, and is used to both indoor pee pad training and outdoor potty time. Because she’s never lived without other dogs around, she may experience some separation anxiety, and she does tend to bark a little when meeting unfamiliar people out of fear. But with love, time, and gentle encouragement, Hey has all the potential to grow into a confident and affectionate companion. All she needs is a patient family ready to cheer her on through this next chapter of her life. View more photos and videos on Facebook: Link to Post Does Hey sound like the right companion for you? Send in your application today here or through our website:adoptmekoreanrescue.org/adoption-application/ AKR dogs can arrive at Vancouver or Toronto airport and may be able to arrive at some US airports (Seattle, LA, NY, Boston, etc) where we have flight volunteers. **IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Tibblet! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. This sweet boy is Tibblet and he is ready to find his forever home. Tibblet is a 9 month old Bichon Frise, currently weighing in at 9 pounds. Bichons are a small dog, weight approximately 11 pounds fully grown and reaching 25-30cm tall. They have a medium length coat with corkscrew curls which requires regular grooming. Tibblet had received a trim before his Bio pictures so he is not as shaggy as he can get in his pictures. Being a non-shedding dog, Tibblets new humans should also expect to schedule regular grooming appointments and brushing sessions weekly to keep his coat matt and tangle free. Bichons are a intelligent, energetic, very playful, loving dog and will make a wonderful pet for those looking for a smaller dog that doesn’t shed much. Recently, Tibblet was seen by our vet where he received a clean bill of health. He was neutered, microchipped, as well received all the necessary vaccines for his age. Tibblets first 8months were of neglect and insolation. He came to us from a puppy mill, which you could tell he received no care and did not have human interactions. Having come from this environment, it has caused him to be very timid and cautious, especially of humans. In his foster home Tibblet has already made significant progress. He now spends his time mainly out of his crate wandering around by his humans side, every time we stop he starts licking our toes, but he still has that fear because when you bend down towards him he will take off. You can tell he so desperately wants to trust and he is getting there. He has come a long way, but will need someone that is willing to put the time in, be patient with him and form a trusting bond with him. He does not cuddle yet. He will place his front paws on the couch as if he wants to be up there to cuddle, but turns away when you try and grab him to put him up with you. When Tibblet becomes comfortable with his new humans and trust is there, I am sure he will love to cuddle right in beside you. He will look forward to having a new family with the patience to support him in building his confidence. Tibblet is looking for a loving home, where his humans are not away for long periods of time. He will not suit any attached home if you are away majority of the day as he does tend to bark when he is left alone. This may get better with time, but your neighbours may not be that patient. Saying that, if you do work from home and the majority of your time will be with him an attach home, apartment, condo will be fine. Tibblet does not need a big outdoors area, he can thrive indoors as well provided their owners have enough time for them and provide plenty of playtime and activity. However this little guy does love running in circles really fast and exploring the outside, so a full fenced yard would be great but not a deal breaker. He is not suited for a high rise apartment or busy outside environment. He is timid and the noise and busyness of big city living will be too much for him. He will be well suited to rural living, a small town or quiet subdivision without a lot of small kids running around or bikes streaming by. In his foster home there are two other older dogs, which he adores so much. When his foster siblings are home he gets so excited and just wants to be playing with them, so he would love to have a sibling that has as much energy as him. I don’t think it is necessary for him to have another dog in the home but it does bring out his energetic fun self thats for sure and will help with his confidence. His ideal forever home will have a well socialized, confident dog that can be a great role model for him. Tibblet would not enjoy a home with children. Tibblet is still getting use to life outside of a barn and sudden movements and nosies scare him. He is looking for a quiet and calm home with adults or older teens, so as long as all family members are on board with taking it slow and his boundaries can be respected. . He is still learning to trust people. He will not be suited for a home where children visit regularly. You can see Tibblet personality starting to shine. Observing his personality in his foster home, he does appear to show signs that he is eager and interested in giving and receiving more attention but is still highly cautious at this time. His new humans will have to have the patience and understanding to progress at Tibblets pace, it’s likely he will become more affectionate as he grows his trust. When he does have that time of feeling say he is so a funny, very puppyish dog, making up for lost time and making the most of his life. He has found that throwing around his toys, playing with balls is something he really enjoys. He has taken a likely to his toy stuffies so much that he likes to gather them up in his bed, so much that there is no room for him to lay on it. Tibblet will need a few walks, playtime and training time every day. His walks do not have to be too long, right now he goes for approximately 25-40 minutes, but for the first while they should be in a quieter less traffic area as he is just getting use to the street noises. He does take his time on walks and loves sniffing all the new scents around. He is soaking in all the new smells that are out there. He does fine walking by other dogs and people. You can already see that he will be a very quick learner and will be so enthusiastic to learn tricks. He knows the command ‘up’ as we have to get him in our arms to carry him down stairs to the back yard. He will come up steps but not go down them yet. Once he is outside he is so good sticking by your side, other than taking about 4-6 fast circle runs. He so happy running free and would love a secure fenced yard where he can run safely. I can just image what he will be doing in a few months, I’m sure he will have a dance routine to share. He is that dog that is on his hind legs with his front paws up and turning in circles!! Tibblet is going to be an amazing boy with a little more time. Obedience classes will be great for his confidence building and building the bond with his new humans. Tibblet has been amazing with his housetraining. He gives clear signs when he needs to go and as long as you’re in the same room and pay attention to him, there should be no or very few accidents. He is pretty scheduled with his potty breaks. He seems to understand the word ‘potty’ and will do his duty every time you’re out. If you do have a fully fenced yard and no steps, he will go right out for you. If you are in a home/condo etc… that will require him going down steps, you will need to likely carry him for the first while until he gets comfortable. He does not like to do his duty on walks, so you will need to have an area you can take him out to. He might spend 5-10 minutes out for this as the scents seem to occupy his urgency to go. In the beginning Tibblet didn’t want to leave his crate, now he is in a routine for crate time. He will have a 2-3 naps during the day and sleeps 7-8 hours during the night. If you want him to sleep straight through the night you may need the crate in the room with you. With having 2 other dogs in his foster home, we put a blanket over his crate. He seems to have a hard time sleeping if he sees the other dogs out as he wants to be with them. The blanket seems to work. We have had Tibblet on car rides in the crate. He does well, no car sickness at all. Tibblet has not been introduced to cats. He should be fine with a cat as long as the cat is dog savvy and friendly, with introductions being a little later and slowly. Tibblet has shown so much bravery and deserves a family that will step up for him. He is going to be a loving and playful companion. If you have a quiet, calm home and love the Bichon breed, will be patience, have consistency to work with a dog who is still learning about the world around him then Tibblet just might be the perfect fit for you. He is such a darling boy, and watching him grow and explore and become ‘a dog’ is so rewarding. We know that Tibblet will fully embrace the life of a cherished family pet. He just needs someone to give him that chance. Maybe that person is you. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Little Poppet here is a sweet Bichon Frise, almost 1.5yrs old, who is ready to find herself a loving forever home. Poppet is a female and weighs about 11lbs. She came to us from a puppy mill but we are happy to say that where once she was destined to a life of breeding for profit, now her life is full of so many possibilities and joy. She is a funny, very puppyish dog, making up for lost time and making the most of her life now, in a home, with toys and friends and so many things to do! Poppet is very inquisitive and has a great curiosity about all things in life. She has to be watched closely as you just never know what she is going to grab and try and take to her bed. Her bed is constantly full of dog toy that she likes to horde around her. She never had toys before so now she wants all the toys surrounding her. She has no preference for toys, any and all will do. She likes when her toys are spread out around the room and then she will go and collect them all and spend a few moments with each before moving on to look for another. As endearing as this is you have to supervise her because many non toys will also end up in her bed including your slippers, the tissue box, etc. We even had a loss of a coffee mug when she grabbed it off the coffee table and dropped it to the floor…and thankfully we were right there when she did it as the noise of it breaking didn’t upset her and she was trying to take off to her bed with half the mug! As confident and outgoing she is with exploring and playing with toys she is still quite timid with having people handle her. She absolutely wants to be around us and in the same room, and is even now starting to play bow to us and initiate some games, but she will skitter away or cower when being approached or you go to pick her up. Sadly, human contact was not a positive thing for her in the mill so she is learning now that people are kind and touch isnt cruel. This is a lesson that will take much longer for her to fully understand and anyone interested in Poppet needs to fully understand that patience and a calm, quiet and kind demeanor needs to be taken with her. We can assuredly say that given more time Poppet will absolutely be a dog that her family can handle without any issue, but she is still in the early stages of her new life and she just needs the time to continue learning that people are kind to her. She has come along well and is at the point now where she is ready to move on to her forever home and continue this learning with her adoptive family. We handle Poppet every day and take time to sit with her on our lap gently petting her so she learns that touch is nice. But we also give her time to rest quietly by herself whether that is on our couch, or in her bed, or in her crate. We know that her path towards being a fully confident dog is a marathon, not a sprint, and she will get there…no need to push her too far too soon. Where Poppet is totally confident tho is with other dogs. She adores her foster siblings and gains so much confidence and learning off of them. She absolutely needs another confident, well socialized dog in the home to be her life’s mentor and best buddy. This dog will need to have a temperament that will tolerate a pesky sister happily bouncing around them and wanting to give them kisses. Poppet adores the dogs in her foster home and becomes so excited when she is let out of her crate in the morning and sees them. She emits a high pitched squeal of delight and bounces all around them. She will be open to gentle play with another dog but even just companionship is good enough for her. She is fostered with a dog her size, a dog a bit bigger and then a very large dog and she is comfortable with all of them. They just need to be more mellow natured as a dog that comes on too strong will intimidate her. She wants to snuggle them on the couch if allowed but if not is happy to just lie close to them too..she just wants to be in their vicinity. The other dogs were instrumental in teaching Poppet the joys of going for walks and how to explore the yard and sniff stuff. She just follows their lead. Poppet is fostered in a home with cats and has a healthy respect for cats. As long as the cat is dog savvy and friendly she would be fine in a home with cats. She would not enjoy a home with children tho Poppet is still getting used to life outside of a barn and sudden movements and loud noises scare her. She is looking for a quiet and calm home with adults only or gentle teens. Poppet is doing well out on her walks but loud noises can startle her so a home in a quieter area is needed. She is not suited to inner city living with a lot of traffic and other noises. She is currently fostered in a rural area that is very quiet. A similar rural area or a small town or quiet subdivision would suit her. Poppet would like a home with a secure fenced yard. It doesn’t need to be a huge yard, but some safe area where she can get her potty business done is needed. She is still learning about walks and doesn’t always feel comfortable to relieve herself when out on a walk so needs the yard for this. Poppet also needs direct access to the yard. She is doing well with her house training but needs her outdoor area to be off the house so she can easily access this. Poppet will go the bathroom when you let her out and is pretty scheduled with her potty breaks but she doesn’t know how to alert that she has to go out so her people need to be proactive and take her out. She is crated when we arent home and at night to enforce her house training. She is an early riser, up with the sun, and needs to be let out right away when she wakes or she may have an accident in her crate, but otherwise is clean. Poppet needs to be considered a flight risk, as most mill dogs are, so extra care needs to be taken to ensure that she Is always leashed when outside and never let off leash when not in a secure fenced yard. Her people will also need to be responsible around the doors and gates and ensure that they aren’t left open. Poppet is not one to dart out a door, but we also never give her this opportunity. Safety is first with her! She travels in the car in a crate for her safety. Occasionally she gets car sick. This will get better with more trips and exposure to the car. Best to always pack an extra towel for her crate tho when travelling more than 25min or so and not feed her before a planned trip if possible. Poppet didn’t get to live her puppy life in the mill and is making up for lost time now. She is very playful and tries to get our dogs to play with her and has recently started initiating play with us which is very endearing. Her version of play is to bounce around as we skitter our hand on the floor or around her and she will bark and bounce and have a great smile on her face. We know in time that this will move ahead to pets and rubs with play, but for now we are happy that she is engaging us and it shows that she is trusting us. She puts everything in her mouth as mentioned so you have to keep things out of her reach. Anything on coffee tables or side tables are fair game to her. She will pop up on her hind legs and investigate table tops to see what might be interesting to grab. When done playing or investigating she will take naps in her bed or on the couch. She doesn’t know yet that she can jump up onto the couch herself…its cute to see her on her back legs hopping up and down trying…she just hasn’t figured out the physics of that jump yet and that she needs to jump up and forward not up and down. We have put some dog stairs in front of the couch and have taught her to use these and she caught onto that and now uses the stairs to get on the couch by herself. Smart girl!! She can also do the stairs up and down on our deck , taught to her by our dogs. She doesn’t do the stairs in the house yet, but also in our home the foster dogs stay on the main floor. She would need to be carried up and down a long flight of stairs in the home until she learns them but as she is small this isnt an issue. Overall Poppet is a darling little dog who is going to be amazing with a bit more time. Obedience school will be great for her confidence building and she will like the treats given! She was good for the groomer, although overwhelmed with it all, so this will be a learning lesson for her too. As a non shedding, hypo allergenic dog she needs regular grooming appointments to keep her coat neat and free of mats. We are getting her used to brushing as well and she is taking to this well. Short grooming sessions at home are needed daily to keep her clean and keep building her confidence with the grooming process. If you are looking to add another dog to your home and love the Bichon Breed and have a quiet, calm home and the patience to work with a dog who is still learning about the world around her then Poppet just might be the perfect fit for you. She is quite a darling and watching her grow and explore and become “a dog” is so rewarding. We know that Poppet is a dog that will shake off her life before soon enough and will fully embrace the life of a cherished family pet. She just needs someone to give her that time.
